Up yours. I spent decades dealing with students and ran across a lot of kids like Nick Sandmann. They take their cue on how to behave from adult bigots. Comments from him I saw today suggest he knows it was wrong to whip up a crowd the way he did and thereby encourage racist expressions toward the Native American. What he didn't have was a way to deal with the racist attack on him by the old guy. He had to learn a hard lesson adults should have taught him before he was caught up in controversy.

In my history classes, we discussed and strategized ways for white kids to deal with racism directed at them. Minority kids often came up with some interesting ways to contront minority racists. We also looked at ways for minorities to deal with racism directed at them. Of course, we also looked at racism directed by minorities at other minorities.

The students investigated and came up with what they viewed as racism with my contributuion limited to digging up and preparing resources they requested. When they turned to me for answers, I'd tell them they had to live with each other and needed to figure out how to get along. It was nice to see white kids' resentment melt when minority kids admitted they had been racist toward whites.

There were no Nick Sandmanns in my classes when the process was finished, nor were there any minority kids inclined to shout racist crap at white people. Getting rid of that crap in your head is remarkably liberating.

 

A lot of white folks on this forum carry around a lot of baggage in their heads. They just don't know it.

At this point, I am of two minds about your posts. Part of me wants you to continue as your posts make the left here look really, REALLY bad. But on the other hand, I WANT the Left here to have good, solid proponents as it makes for lively, informative, and entertaining debate. And the left here does have them - Egoboy, Aphotic, Langly - there's quite a few here that do more than say "SoWhatWhoCaresTrumpBadRWSoEasyToTrollRWFeverSwamp", they actually make arguments. Their posts actually further the debate rather than take away from it. So the other part of me wants to put you on ignore because frankly, your posts add NOTHING.

A bunch of kids were treated badly by a bunch of racists. The press willfully spun the story so that the victims looked like the villains. A lot of people were fooled in the process. YOU - were fooled in the process and everyone can see it in your own posts. The press willfully fooled people. That's what you should be discussing in this thread.
