Hopefully this works. Venezuela's issues are quite serious and completely unnecessary. The IMF projects inflation is expected to get to 10 million percent this year. Hopefully other countries join in recognizing the elected government.

If you want you can follow the happenings in Venezuela on Twitter. Latest is that the OAS has also recognized Guaido. Internet is down in parts of the country and social media is being blocked. The protests right now are huge.

Sad you hope it works. It is not surprising that Trump is recognising them rather than the elected Government. The US has been the people working at taking over Venezuela since Chavez decided not to let the US take everything from them. Never mind Trump is being supported by Bolsonaro. Two extreme right would be fascists working together. One day the US will pay.

Looks like Venezuela is up for some real civil war.
I don’t think Maduro will go down easy, and he does have a lot of supporters (probably not majority, but significant amount anyway).

Maduro shouldn’t have given Putin rights for oil - that way he’d keep the US out of this mess.

Anyway, whatever happens, let’s hope it’s going to be over quick.

Hurray! Make Venezuela Great Again! President Trump .. I thank God Almighty every day for President Trump and may God impart wisdom and success to Guaido (the Guide?) and to Bolsanaro, too. I don't think any of the anti-Left movements world wide would be happening without Trump in the White House.

Maduro's results are indefensible. And you can't blame the US. Other countries in the region are doing quite well. Getting economic advice from Cuba probably isn't helping Venezuela.

It will only be over quickly if Maduro can get a handle on it. I saw a picture and it seems there were a lot of young people with the opposition and it reminded me of all the kids with Navalny in Moscow. I wonder how much they're being paid?

If the media said hundreds of thousands of protesters, it's probably a few hundred. In Athens where protesters have been coming in from all over the country, and you could see streets packed for miles around, the media called it a few hundred. So much for the will of the people. It's now the will of the media.

Anyway Russia always had a connection with the oil in Venezuela. Under Chavez they were sending it to Russia to be refined since the refineries had closed except for one.

Fake news. Pictures being broadcast live from the capital show protests that are obviously many thousands, likely hundreds of thousands of people. Now sure how you know their ages.

The short answer is Chavismo. Under the leadership of Hugo Chávez and his successor, Nicolás Maduro, the country has experienced a toxic mix of wantonly destructive policy, escalating authoritarianism, and kleptocracy, all under a level of Cuban influence that often resembles an occupation. Any one of these features would have created huge problems on its own. All of them together hatched a catastrophe. Today, Venezuela is a poor country and a failed and criminalized state run by an autocrat beholden to a foreign power. The remaining options for reversing this situation are slim; the risk now is that hopelessness will push Venezuelans to consider supporting dangerous measures, such as a U.S.-led military invasion, that could make a bad situation worse.

    CHAVISMO RISING

To many observers, the explanation for Venezuela’s predicament is simple: under Chávez, the country caught a strong case of socialism, and all its subsequent disasters stem from that original sin. But Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Nicaragua, and Uruguay have also elected socialist governments in the last 20 years. Although each has struggled politically and economically, none—aside from Nicaragua—has imploded. Instead, several have prospered.

If socialism cannot be blamed for Venezuela’s demise, perhaps oil is the culprit. The most calamitous stage of Venezuela’s crisis has coincided neatly with the sharp fall in international oil prices that started in 2014. But this explanation is also insufficient. Venezuela’s decline began four decades ago, not four years ago. By 2003, Venezuela’s GDP per worker had already declined by a disastrous 37 percent from its 1978 peak—precisely the decline that first propelled Chávez into office. Moreover, all of the world’s petrostates suffered a serious income
hock in 2014 as a result of plummeting oil prices. Only Venezuela could not withstand the pressure.

The drivers of Venezuela’s failure run deeper. Decades of gradual economic decline opened the way for Chávez, a charismatic demagogue wedded to an outdated ideology, to take power and establish a corrupt autocracy modeled on and beholden to Cuba’s dictatorship. Although the crisis preceded Chávez’s rise to power, his legacy and Cuba’s influence must be at the center of any attempt to explain it.

Chávez was born in 1954 into a lower-middle-class family in a rural town. He became a career military officer on a baseball scholarship and was soon secretly recruited into a small leftist movement that spent over a decade plotting to overthrow the democratic regime. He exploded into Venezuela’s national consciousness on February 4, 1992, when he led an unsuccessful coup attempt. This misadventure landed him in jail but turned him into an improbable folk hero who embodied growing frustration with a decade of economic stagnation. After receiving a pardon, he launched an outsider bid for the presidency in 1998 and won in a landslide, upending the two-party system that had anchored Venezuelan democracy for 40 years.

LOL--Winner of the most ass-backward post in the history of the forum.

Chavez protecting the Venezuelans from US theft. What? So he could steal it, himself? Anyone who thinks Chavez was a moral human being is neither moral nor human. He was a tyrant. He committed treason against the Holy Spirit of Man, the creative mind. Too bad there is no hell Chavez and Maduro can rot in, because that is what they turned Venzeuala into.

Me? I hope Trump does all that is morally possible to do to return Venezuela to the glory it once was, the richest nation in South America.

Not as if the US didn't play a role in Venezuela's demise... the CIA have been working against the Venezuelan Government for the past two decades since they tried to nationalise the oil industry (blast from the past - Mohammed Mosaddegh - Iran in the 1950's) and US sanctions have crippled the country. They fear what will happen if this trend spread to other countries...

The US does indeed have a high price to pay for its inhumane treatment of the people of South America - the main reason it gets its so called 'caravan's' of refugees it refuses to act humanely with. No I do not have any sympathy for a country which supports the gunning down of ordinary citizens for going on strike, because according to the US it interfered with 'National Security' that being the US getting money from that country. That I saw happen over ten years ago and heard the US Departments claim as I said above that it was in the National Security of the US that these people be gunned down for trying to get a living wage. When Pilger asked why he was told National Security. National Security being the money the US made from said country. The US has not changed in the inhumanity it shows to the people of South America.

Real News has been presenting some genuine information on what is going on there, you guys either do not know or believe anyone who does not put America first should be destroyed which is of course is why Venezuela had to get some protection from Russia.

But then again I would expect nothing else from a country whose two best friends are Israel and Saudi Arabia and yes, you are all alike. (not all citizens obviously, the US has some of the best in the world, but your governments and those who support the US's destruction policy towards Venezuela and other South American Countries. )

    https://fair.org/home/exonerating-the-empire-in-venezuela/

It is the US who is destroying Venezuela and always has been. It is the US who has been providing arms to the 'opposition' in Venezuela and ordering them to create violence

The problem with the US is it believes it is fine for it to do things which any other country doing would be seen for the brutality and cruelty they are. The US sends out some 'Fake News' pretending it is defending when it is attacking and some of its poor citizens believe this or pretend to believe it.
