The only winners in a trade war are those who do not participate.

When Trump ran for President, he said he would run this country like one of his businesses. This is how he does business. Remember how Trump was giddy about the prospect of making money on the backs of all those people who lost their homes in the Financial Crisis?

The same thing is about to happen to these farmers when corporations buy their land for pennies on the dollar.

Sorry but the nation comes first, not the farmers.

Anything a president does will affect someone negatively, it's unavoidable.

A president does not have to engage in a trade war and he should not because a trade war affects almost everyone negatively.

Farmers are just experiencing it at historic rates.

Wow, that's just so understanding. Never saw such a thing when Obama was president.

Interesting that there were more bankruptcies under Obama.

As it stands, there are only records to 2017 available and there was an increase before the tariff.

Dairy has been in trouble long before any tariff so notice which dates Huff n Puff picks for comparisons.

Yeah, I'm going to click on a link to HuffingPaint. No. Post the number of bankruptcies then and now, then account for economic factors prevailing in farming that are somehow to be discounted in an "all about tariffs" piece of Orangemanbad nonsense. In other words that even a leftist can comprehend, "much more information needed." Until then, just another waft of toxic gaseous bilge among thousands from the LW Sewer Pipe.

Not much of a nation if you can’t feed your people. Or do you plan to just import food?

Dumb of you to play this game but I'll play since this is my field

Obama's first year in office soybeans were over $15.32 a bushel, when he left office they were $10.35, last week or so got close to $10 hovering around $9.40
Obama's first year in office corn was over $7.50 a bushel, when he left office they were $3.74 a bushel, last week they were $3.78 a bushel.

So since you're into blaming Presidents tell me again who killed farming in your expert analysis T? Here's the dirty little secret a serious trade deal with Corn and Soybeans is the only way farmers survive and the only hope is Trump getting this deal done because they sure as heck weren't buying enough to move the pricing before. Now when the leaders met everyone heard the Chinese diplomat say as part of this deal they will begin buying 5 million bushels a day, if that's true Trump will become the greatest farming President in modern times so you better pray they don't come to an agreement.

It was a trade beating until we started fighting back. Now its a trade war. Are you suggesting we go back?

The farmers who are going bankrupt in record numbers have a strong preference.

So do the Chinese. They prefer being allowed to steal our intellectual property with impunity. Are you suggesting we go back?

So when the majority of the nation are made up of consumers who work in the service sector, that means the nation comes first and Trump is deliberately hurting the nation by implementing tariffs that harm consumers? Yes?

You're right they want the prices they had in 2008, if you think you're going to get the Ag vote then you are beyond help. My company sells to these guys all over the country and you can bet your ass they know exactly what party was in office when their prices fell so dramatically.

It's a trade imbalance, it affects everyone.

You may have no problem with other nations taking advantage of us but real Americans do.

The long term benefits are worth it.

You have to think of the future, not everything is about right now.

Your knowledge of food prices is commendable and you are surely a bigger expert than I. But the OP is explicitly about a cause and effect of something that Trump initiated (the trade war) and the result (records levels of bankruptcy amongst farmers).

You appear to be implying that Obama also did something to cause a rapid decrease in food prices for farmers. If that is indeed what you are implying, what was it?

    False choice.

The stealing of intellectual property never happened without repercussion. It just so happened that the repercussions did not also result in significant damage to sectors of the American economy.
