Orange Man Bad, Brown Man Good. Edited to add: just like in the bad old days when POC were necessarily bad. the essential racism is the same varietal .. though worse today because we're supposed to know better.
The morality police are at it again. Would those same people that want to change the name be in favor of dropping Martin Luther King's name off of everything? I mean he was a man that cheated repeatedly on his wife, what kind of message is that to young people.
Really??? The Republican reply to anything is a lamebrain equivalency to justify a wrong. Remember Trump saying America was as bad as Russia when it comes to wrong doing. There is nothing moral about the GOP under Trump and a huge disgrace to our nation.
I didn't suggest anywhere in my post that the GOP is morally superior. (although it is) oops now I did. I was just pointing out the hypocrisy of the left. The easiest thing in the world to do.
You were comparing a racist [John Wayne] with a moral leader. Martin Luther King is even on the list of martyred saints in several Christian churches [Episcopal/ Lutheran]. I don't really have an issue with Wayne but he does represent an old era in Orange county that no longer is allowed.
Trump International Airport. Welcoming Travellers* From Every Corner Of The Earth. Enjoy Your Visit. Try Not To Get Shot. *no blacks.
He was highly representative of the world at that time. Cowboy good. Most every male wanted to be John Wayne. And his racist and homophobic views were spot on for the times.
It's always a mistake to name any kind of public edifice or facility after a mere Hollywood celebrity. Better to name a public edifice after someone with great accomplishment in history, like Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo Airport, after the first European to visit California at San Diego Bay.
Orange county was the last bastion of Republican strength in California. Now only the farm counties or rural areas favor Republicans. Maybe Bakersfield will take John Wayne for their airport name.
And the JW generation is close to dying off. So, no need to keep his name alive for all his fans, since they will all be dead in a few years. Many of them are dead now. As you said, times change and so do social behaviors. His views and behaviors were spot on for the times he was popular. Today, his views are horribly wrong. And they should be.
“I believe in white supremacy” and calls Midnight Cowboy “a story about two ****”. Yet a statement like that isn't a mental disease? What does that say about people who are against people for who they love or what color their skin is? A severe mental disease IMO.
Gonna need some Sham-Wow rags to wipe up all the spooge after you folks soiled yourselves whacking off in your California-bashing circle jerk. John Wayne was the Bruce Willis of his time, and as some have found, Bruce Willis' main problem is that he actually thinks he's Bruce Willis. Some might argue the same for John Wayne.
“I believe in white supremacy” and calls Midnight Cowboy “a story about two ****”. And this is what real white men were all about back then.
“I believe in white supremacy” and calls Midnight Cowboy “a story about two ****”. How masculine is that sort of belief? Hate is a trait to admire?
