Calling him a pedophile is crazy talk. It is apparently done to exaggerate this. She got pregnant. Defined that means she is not under the age of puberty.

The grandfather, presumed guilty, would be guilty of raping a girl who conceived a baby. A true pedophile is with girls younger than that.

 

This entire story is weird. Was she 11 at the time he had sex with her? Even a small male penis will do a lot of damage to a 11 year old typical childlike girl. She would have the hymen. And she would be expected to say to her adults that she was hurt. Clearly her sex organs were more developed than most 11 year old girls. But even in the USA at one time it was legal for a 12 year old girl to marry. There are cases of adult sized 11 year old girls so did her size matter to the authorities there?

With an 11-year-old body, it should have been very obvious there was a pregnancy in there many weeks before then.

A growing baby takes up a lot of room, and there would have been a very big bump on a small body.

At 19 weeks, the girl could likely feel the baby kicking already. Almost certainly before then, because her smaller body wouldn't have had the fat stores to cushion the sensation of subtle movement inside her body.

Yes, my great great grandmother was married and gave birth to my great grandmother when she was 12. And my mom told me one of her childhood playmates got married off when she was 12, but this was in a very isolated rural area out in the sticks that didn't have running water. (Anyone watch that show The Beverly Hillbillies ?)
But getting married at 12 was pretty uncommon, 16 was much more common. My grandma told me all her friends got married at 16, but she waited till 18. Back in those days a girl had to have the consent of her father to get married if she was under the age of 21.

I also talked to an older man (Tony) who told me about his younger days. When he had just turned 19 he drove through North Carolina, which was very rural and backwards at that time (probably would have been in the 60s). He met and dated a girl there for a few days. The girl wanted to take him home to mama. When he came to their house he found out the girl was only 12 (she looked much older) and the girl's mama was anxious to marry her daughter off to him! (She had four other children and didn't have a husband)
He says he immediately got the hell out of there.
