Which is the ultimate point of the fruitless GW debate: That can of worms long, long ago was opened and has its expiration date. The only thing we can do now(within reason/logic) is to mitigate ill effects and to stabilize the climate. But it's going to have its ebbs/flows, increases and decreases. It'll never be a so-called "normal" again. Nor do we want it to be. If this is the new normal, we want this new normal to be stable for the earth.

More like 'we the unqualified'. This upcoming 2020s is a chance for America to wipe the slate clean. No more unqualified tomato throwers, no more whiners. Just qualified politicians in office.

They're qualified by default since they're in congress.

    And you're not.

No, that's not how that works. Someone could theoretically hire me to be a plumber but I know NOTHING about drains. I wouldn't be an asset.
In the same way, these neophytes(as the OP well put it) are simply disgracing the federal government.

In 2020, either by running or by voting I intend to voice my legal and constitutional displeasure with the tomato thrower in my district(Tlaib.)

so instead of taking the lazy way out and dismiss him because of some perceived bias why don't you counter his assertions instead but that would require thought and effort on your part wouldn't it

Well, he could have done without the insults, but he is correct that we basically eat fossil fuels with today's mechanized agriculture. Every calorie of food we produce requires input of three calories of oil. Transportation of food makes this ratio even worse. For imported iceberg lettuce, every calorie requires 172 calories on energy input through oil.

The important part about this is that fossil fuels are NON-RENEWABLE. So, we have two choices: We can be proactive and have alternative energies for food production and distribution in place when fossil fuels prices skyrocket, or we can just wait and let nature make that decision for us. I can tell you that the latter choice is not a plan and WILL result in mass starvation. I am 53 and won't be affected. My daughter is 9 she WILL be affected.

That's why Moore and Cortez are both correct. Yes, fossil fuels will be hard to replace. That's why it is imperative to start a concerted effort to get us off fossil fuels, NOW. That's why bold policy proposals like the green new deal are important: We have to get off our behind, complacency is not going to do it.

Has anyone noticed that the entirety of AOC's Green New Deal is a NON-BINDING RESOLUTION.

She is basically asking Congress to say, "yeh, this MAY be a good idea, IF further study proves it feasible" absolutely nothing more than that.

I guess that all the conservatives were hoping that we'd be coming out FOR air and water pollution and maybe throwing in a rider being against everybody having a job or a living wage as well. Sorry guys, you'll have to keep on just actually having that be the situation in actual fact and not have a resolution saying you think it ought to be that way by law.

There are qualifications, actual ones, which plumbers have to obtain.

The better analogy is with an actor, if they get on stage and get paid for it they're in the club, no further qualification needed.

Exactly, but those who have made their fortunes from fossil fuels don't care about any of that and will fight any move toward alternate fuel use.

Oh not, don't you understand? We have fracking and shale oil now, and they aren't last ditch efforts to get the last possible gallons of fuel out ot the Earth. They won't pollute most of our water wells nor require that we strip mine most of the Great Basin, oh no, they mean Oil is now INFINITE and we will NEVER run out. Ask your Greenpeace sellout, he'll explain it.

Yep, there are still nuts who believe in the abiotic fossil fuel hypothesis, basically promising infinite oil supplies.

Oh bull **** too. You have obviously not read word one of what she actually proposes. One of the major actual criticisms is that it is rather light on HOW we should accomplish anything it proposes. She is mainly just saying we should TRY to come up with ways to stop using so much Fossil fuels and start to use something else

If you guys had been in charge years ago we would probably still be hunting whales to extinction and ridiculing those unicorny dreamers who want to get oil out of the ground, instead of from Great Leviathan as God intended.

The free market will eventually take care of them. As always, the old first has to die for the new to be accepted. By then it may be too late to allow the peaceful switchover to renewable resources on a large scale.

The thing that most people don't understand: What humanity will have to do in the coming 50-100 years is a switch from a higher quality, higher energy density energy source (fossil fuels), to a lower quality, lower energy density one (renewables). Such a switch has NEVER been done before in humankind. We went from wood to coal to oil, all going from lower quality to higher quality energy sources. Thus, what lies ahead of us will be nothing like what we have been used to.

The Left embraces new ideas regardless of the sanity factor. Plugging up cow farts is a NEW idea . . . but not a sane one.

Yes; plugging up cow bottoms and eliminating jet plane travel with a 90 trillion dollars price tag.

Oh so you're s farming expert too? You'd better be because that's the only way you'll eat anything. The vast majority of the agriculture on the planet may indeed be local and low energy. But the vast majority of the food? That's produced using modern equipment, modern chemistry, and transported from the farm around the world to people that need it.

Those low energy farming methods you're talking about don't produce enough to feed the people in the places that still practice such medieval farming methods, and they are in fact the reason for the deforestation you're concerned about. Farm land is impossible to both maximize and maintain on a large scale by manual human labor alone. Try having a farm in your own back yard that sustains your own family that doesn't use a rototiller, or fertilizer, or irrigation pumps, or insecticide. Don't just try it for one year. Try it for 10. If you live in the city...

So the Left gets behind the biggest fool to come down the pike in a half century as their environmental spokesperson? When the Left begins generating sane and intelligent proposals rather than just pull an Occasio and throw insanity on the table or an Obama and just fling taxpayers' money (Solyndra anyone?) down the toilet then perhaps at that point the nation will be in the mood to listen to their leadership. But first they are going to have to find sane and responsible . . . leaders. Still waiting.
