That's all fine. Then how DO YOU propose to produce the food for a growing world population based on mechanized agriculture when fossil-based fuels become too expensive? Is it smart to have the world food supply rely on a NON-RENEWABLE energy source, half of which we have used up in a mere 100 years?

Low energy to a liberal means a peasant farmer digging the dirt with a stick and going hungry half the year

Libs pretend to worry about running out of fossil fuel someday

But they are really freaked out by new discoveries, and the fear that we wont run out soon enough to save the polar bears

Which non binding resolution is responsible for the internal combustion engine?

Resolutions don't drive innovation. Those happen as a consequence of intellectual growth. They don't happen as a result of the growth of government. They happen in spite of it.

There have been many sane proposals out there. Cortez is not the only one backing the green new deal, although the RW likes to single her out as their lightning rod. Look at Germany as a model of how it can be done: Investment into renewable energy sources, energy saving measures, new technology in home construction, zero energy homes etc. All that with a living standard no different or higher than in the US, with half the energy footprint per capita and a longer life expectancy.

It can be done, but you have to pull the naysayers along kicking and screaming. That's why a bold proposal like the green new deal is important. Otherwise complacency just wins, and we all know what happens to societies that become complacent: They lose out in the global competitiveness race.

What it means to them is a concept, not an actual practice. What they hear is low energy and they think we'll damn if it can be done then let's feed NYC that way, but don't realize that the guy digging in the dirt with a sisti can't even feed himself.

It's hard enough to make money with a crop even with modern technology.

We are talking about modern farming, as productive as modern soil-based farming is it still produces a return of less than 5% (I think actually less than 1%, but I'm going from years old memory here) on the amount of energy it uses. Arthur C. Clarke noticed this back in my childhood and it was one reason he championed hydroponics.

Btw, it still won't feed billions but you can eat rather nicely using "Square Foot Gardening" even if you live in the city.

We all know that the RW thinks oil will last forever. And they think tax cuts pay for themselves. Talk about being naive...

Half the energy consumption is not very impressive since germany is less than 1/3 our size

Well that certainly explains Occasional-Cortex's presence . . . and Barack Obama's stint as well as both senator and president.

The majority of the inefficiency is due to the requirements of the consumer. Farmers around here toss up to 90 percent of their crop because it's too big, too small, not the right shape, blemished, or the wrong color.

Biological systems don't produce perfection every single time. But that's what consumers want to buy.

Also, how many square feet do you think you need to be able to live off that garden year round? How many feet do you need in the Northeast growing season?

but like America they are cheating somewhat by offshoring much o the manufacturing to china which pollutes like crazy

And the thing is, Farmers have every incentive to reduce their energy cost even in the absence of government advice.

We could do better but not if liberals are running the central planning economy they dream of

Farmers often get bad advice from the government

AG schools are one of the worst places to get new ideas

True. The reverse is true too. Regulatory capture is no joke. Just look at the amount of corn syrup in your EVERYTHING as a prime example.

But let's not worry our socialist theory with that little gem. Just throw on your "down with Monsanto" hoodie and your "crush big oil slacks" and head on down to the next "government needs way more control of everything" rally.

And cons only think of next year's oil stocks dividends. **** the several hundred species we extinct EVERY YEAR and the fact that we are causing a second Great Dying, greater even than the Permian

If the Polar Bears die out that means we have no more Arctic Ice and all that extra fresh water dumped into the North Atlantic will almost certainly shut down the warm water currents that keep Europe from having the climate of Vladivostock, which it should at its latitude. That has happened before, it was called the Little Ice Age. Look it up if you want some idea of what conservatives mean to bring us so they can gas their Hummers

So, you figured out Ocasio-Cortez is clueless and conniving. Have you likewise figured out failing to address climate change, the modus operandi of the Orange Oaf, is equally laughable?
