0Hey, greetings. I'm a refugee from an atheist forum. I was there for years but post 2016 it because a really toxic place to be. I really have grown pretty weary of talking about religion anyway and the politics there was so one sided and nasty that I couldn't take it any more. This place seems to have a more interesting balance of people, which is what I'm looking for. I am an Atheist but I'd say that my politics are not hard left by any stretch of the imagination. I consider myself somewhat of a pragmatic libertarian. That is to say people should be allowed the maximum amount of individual freedom, while recognizing that people are flawed human beings and sometimes it is best for us to collectively take care of one another when we fail to do so on our own. On many other issues I lean conservative as well. Politics should be about finding a good balance where everyone can form a society that works for different people and where we can live together, not trying to ram our own beliefs down everyone's throat and forcing other people to live the way that we personally like, which seems to be a popular belief amoungst the right and the left. Personally I'm a rock climber, world traveler and oddball. I'm from the Southern California desert, currently live in Utah (a great state, despite what some people think.) I've been to every state but Hawaii, North Dakota, Rhode Island and Connecticut (I'm sure they are lovely.) I lived in Mexico for a bit, my father lives there currently, spent 6 months in South America, 3 months biking across Spain, 3 months in Australia. I normally like to have one outlet for talking to strangers online and have been without one since I quit atheist forums a few months ago, so I'm going to give this a try. -Cap'n Awesome.
Welcome to the forum. You'll find a good mix of folks here, although percentage wise this forum tends to lean right.
Well, you'll quickly find out that we have no room for centrists around here. You're either with Trump or you're with the globalists.
I worked out of Bristol Bay and then traveled Anchorage, Girdwood, Homer, Fairbanks. Alaska is awesome. Although I say that about everywhere.
Never been to Bristol Bay, but I've been to all the others, including Kodiak Is. two years. Lived in Juneau, two years, then went north, lived in Anc. and Wasilla. learned to fly up there so I've been all over. If I could afford it, I would go there and retire right now. Probably Juneau or Kodiak.
Welcome aboard. We have a decent mix of views here. Someone will end up pissing you off but you''ll be liking others as well.
Ahoy indeed. We have more in common than just our names. However, when it comes to travels you must hold some type of record.
I too am a "refugee". (as you can tell by my avatar) Wasn't "left" enough. Many of us were evicted because we didn't share the correct viewpoints. I am a Follower of Christ as well. This is a well balanced forum I believe and you will enjoy it here.....Welcome!
Our thoughts on religion and politics are pretty much in line. It's always good to have another ally.
Welcome! Contrary to popular belief, there are posters here who do not identify far to either side. You'll find them, if they haven't been verbally bludgeoned into submission by one side or the other.
Cool. I don't really consider myself a moderate. When I think of moderates I often think of people who want to maintain the status quo. Thats not what I want at all. There are some pretty radical changes I'd like to see to society. I just think its good to think beyond the simple minded left/right dynamic. Politics is really has infinite possible changes we could do. To think two dimensionally is really limiting.
Moderates is not to whom I was referring, but they are here also. You'll discover the varying degrees of every political position, enjoy the search!
That's true, but I noticed percentage wise this forum tends to also seem to lean atheist, or at least agnostic. We also definitely have our share of Socialists (one from France and one insufferable carmudgeon from the UK) who tend to dominate in the Economics section, and I think we even have two radical Communists, one of them is a very intelligent teenage girl.
Welcome! I tend to be libertarian light. I'm with them on the freedom, until they wander off into loopy-ville. There are a whole boatload of posters who will call you "loony lefty," or "republitard," or the equivalent, simply because you disagree with them in one thread, about one issue. When I get called both on the same day, I pat myself on the back. The uber partisans around here are really UBER... But, lots of reasonable people here who realize that neither side is all good, nor is either side all bad.
There are a lot of libertarians who wander off into loony town for sure. People say they are libertarian and it seems to mean all kinds of different things. From the Koch brothers to Alex Jones. Even for me, I'd say my brain tells me no to a a lot of libertarian ideas, but my heart is libertarian.
Welcome. We have an open border here. Voter ID is not required to vote in our forum polls. We are a sanctuary forum.
