There is so much to the Boeing 737 Max story and while the company will bear a massive brunt of the economic damage, Trump ought to suffer political damage - even if he has (finally) issued an order to ground the planes in the United States.

The grounding came several hours after the plane was grounded by air traffic agencies around the world and that delay, was quite possibly a reflection of the close and cozy relationship between Trump and Boeing's CEO who spoke with Trump on the phone after Trump spouted some idiocy on twitter about older planes being better. Trump is - after all - an expert in the "older and simpler" field.

And now we are learning that fixes to this plane have been in the works for months and were delayed by Trump's record breaking shutdown. Golly, it's almost like government shutdowns have a negative ripple effect. Who da thunk?!

So why does Trump hate planes? Because they can fly over his walls.

Colbert had a funny opening on Trumps simpler airplanes "thoughts"..

I guess this is a good thing, but I wonder how much this will affect flight schedules around the US..

What pct of air traffic do these planes represent?

    1. How did the the government shutdown prevent Boeing from "working on the update over “the past several months” to address a feature that reportedly caused one of its 737 MAX planes to nose-dive into the ocean last year"?

    2. Is our FAA responsible for Ethiopia's planes?

    3. Is that article/source just desperate to blame every woe in the world on Trump?

    4. Are Trump haters so desperate to blame every woe in the world on Trump that they'll jump on this article as gospel, without even thinking to question the points I brought up in 1-3?

    :confusion:

They were fixes crafted in response to that crash. The shutdown prevented the FAA from reviewing and approving the implementation of fixes proposed by Boeing.

“There are also airline and aircraft manufacturing oversight activities that either stop or are significantly reduced,” the pilots association warned the White House in early January. “These safety and oversight inspections will potentially allow for the introduction of safety issues that put passengers and airline crews at risk.”

In another letter sent to Mr Trump, Nancy Pelosi and Mitch McConnell just eight days later, the pilots said that oversight systems “critical to resolving identified issues” had been suspended due to a furlough involving “FAA staff who certify the safety of aircraft,” Quartz reported.
The FAA is responsible for allowing the roll out of fixes and safety reviews for all planes that can operate within the US airspace. The plane involved in that crash was not an "Ethiopian plane."
Did you just shut off your brain like you always do whenever you see a criticism of Trump?
I strongly encourage everyone to read the article instead of shutting down their brain as soon as they see a criticism of Trump, as you appear to have done here.

This is so dumb I can even see straight laughing. So boeing knew they had an issue and held off fixing or even telling plane owners there was a needed update because of the FAA? If you actually believe this nonsense you're one wacko lefty.

Portions of the FAA were furloughed.

“There are also airline and aircraft manufacturing oversight activities that either stop or are significantly reduced,” the pilots association warned the White House in early January. “These safety and oversight inspections will potentially allow for the introduction of safety issues that put passengers and airline crews at risk.”

Airlines need the approval from government agencies before implementing fixes to airplanes which are currently operating within those airspaces. If you implement a fix that is not approved, then you run the risk of your plane being deemed no longer in compliance. Big companies, like Boeing, need that approval beforehand.

Why was the plane in the air if it needed "updates" to fly safely? The 737 Max was launched in 2011 and flew for the first time in 2016 all during Obama's Presidency, where was his FAA?

The left never fails to amaze me. Now it's Trumps fault that a plane crashed?

Trump's FAA said the 737 Max “thus far shows no systematic performance issues and provides no basis to order grounding aircraft" yesterday.

Pilots reporting when switching on auto pilot
after take off, the plane noses down.
Good Pilots correct for this by switching off the auto pilot.

    Systemic enough?

    psst, try a search

Yeah, pilots sometimes get called bubblehead.

A long long time ago there was this time when the circuit breaker popped on the radar, so the captain told the copilot to put it back in, it popped, so the captain told him to put it back in, it popped, so the copilot held it in. About four feet of wire bundle two inches thick fried to a crisp.

One of our planes lost power when transmitting on the HF, it was the screen going from the coupler to the long wire antenna that was missing.

How it could be Trump's fault eludes me. I don't think the article says it is, it just leaves that impression for the retarded audience they are speaking to.

This is what is wrong with this insanely biased "news reporting" today. It's all about trying to push a narrative ("Trump bad!") using whatever spin or innuendo is necessary, and there are people who will eat it up. It's idiotic. Six degrees of separation and all of that, I guess if someone wants to badly enough, they can blame literally every problem in the world on Trump.

The headline is really all they want the retards to see, the actual evidence contained in the article lacks anything to suggest it was Trump's fault.

It sometimes takes a long time to find out a problem. We had this one problem once where the sections of aircraft were not matching up, and one day an Air Force inspector was there when the sections were being mated, so I saw this guy try to insert one of the main bolts, it didn't go in, so the Inspector uh left, guy knocks it in with a hammer. It took a really long time to actually identify what was wrong, because sections are made in different places, eventually they instructed "Big Red" Supervisor not to enter the Aircraft. What was really funny is a supervisor who went to Embry-Riddle was laid off due to Affirmative Action so they could keep "Big Red"; basically they told him that because he was so much better than the other one he could easily find another job.

If there were problems with the aircraft and the "fixes" could not be reviewed by the FAA because of the government shutdown, then Boeing should have ethically grounded the planes themselves. Claiming that the crashes were a direct result of the shut-down is nothing more that a very weak excuse.

Trump clearly thinks that US pilots are not good pilots else planes would not have been grounded.

Perhaps you should read up what is required before spouting nonsense,

psst, try a search and you will find that the fault cannot be corrected by simply switching off the auto pilot
