Contrary to your claim, New Zealand does not have particularly strict gun laws.

He ... being a she actually ... or is that "their" preferred pronoun? Both you and "they" might want to pay attention to what I posed in # 53 ...

Yeah there was something reported about he wasn't happy with their immigration laws.

I expect CNN will come up with something about a wall.

Homicide laws I presume still apply. The prospect of life behind bars for murder didn't deter him ... but 5-10 yrs for unlawful possession would have?

Good god, you do realize there is a difference between being an Australian and being in Australia, right?

The New Zealand Police operate a firearms licensing system, but only certain classes of weapons are registered, namely handguns, military style semiautomatics, and restricted weapons. In order to possess these types of weapons license holders must also obtain license endorsements, which can be granted in limited circumstances. Permits to procure such weapons must also be obtained. The licensing system includes background and reference checks, as well as safety training and a written test. The Police inspect and approve firearm storage before issuing licenses and endorsements. Law changes in 1992 aimed at further restricting access to firearms included stricter firearm storage requirements, prohibiting the sale of ammunition to non-licensed persons, and new processes relating to mail order purchases of firearms and ammunition.

There are estimated to be about 1.1 million firearms in New Zealand—about one for every four people. The rate of deaths involving firearms has decreased in the past twenty years, including those resulting from assault, suicide, and accidents. The authors of one study suggested that the 1992 law changes contributed to a “detectable reduction in firearm suicides.” Another study concluded that New Zealand has seen “the most pronounced decline in firearm homicide over the past two decades” compared to Australia and Canada.

In New Zealand, the licensing of gun owners and restrictions on firearm sales are governed by the Arms Act 19831] and regulations made under that legislation: the Arms Regulations 19922] and the Arms (Restricted Weapons and Specially Dangerous Airguns) Order 1984.3] Several provisions in these instruments were recently amended by the Arms (Military Style Semi-automatic Firearms and Import Controls) Amendment Act 2012.4] The New Zealand Police (the Police) is the body responsible for administering firearms legislation. There is no right to own or possess firearms under New Zealand law, including for the purposes of self-defense.....snip~

Well there goes that leftist thought concept.

He dismisses Trump as a leader and a policy maker because any fool can see the Trump is an idiot and a poor leader. But this madman clearly embraces Trump as a symbol of white tribalism.

I'm so saddened by the tremendous loss of life!
Thank you President Trump for your heart felt statement, - echoing my sentiments as well...

My warmest sympathy and best wishes goes out to the people of New Zealand after the horrible massacre in the Mosques. 49 innocent people have so senselessly died, with so many more seriously injured. The U.S. stands by New Zealand for anything we can do. God bless all!

I was in New Zealand in the early 80's, met this 79 year old hunter who had a registered Shotgun, I doubt very much the NRA had anything whatsoever to do with it.

In the other topic, which has seriously devolved into Christian bashing (someone already brought up the Inquisition...) you say you all get along, thing is though, if you really did you wouldn't be afraid of the NRA.

New Zealand, yeah it is sad. Back when I thought about moving there I would have had to join the Royal New Zealand Airforce, I think they had six planes at the time, other than that I did not have $500,000 to give them.

I remember walking through Christchurch in the early morning one day, the streets were clear, and this gray headed Kiwi carrying this really old Police truncheon comes running up begging me for help, he was being followed by a really angry looking young Maori, well knowing all about racism I tried not to take sides, it was funny, after the Maori left some guys came around the corner and thought I was attacking the old man, probably because he was still holding the truncheon, or just because we all don't just get along. I don't know if the angry Maoris still hang around the square in Christchurch, draped all over that memorial in front of the cathedral (ouch, heard about that), but I doubt very much they all just get along.

Now doesn't seem the appropriate time to be glib / get into the weeds with contrarian ideology, however, I do believe that where there to be a culture (in NZ, imbuing the right to concealed carry) - this event might well have been avoided completely, or at the very least - mitigated...

Yeah ... I delve into that hot mess of a "manifesto" in post # 43. I'd also suggest Turnbull / Australia's dehumanizing "Pacific Solution" policy, whereby muslims are confined to concentration camps, at a minum reinforces these extremist views. Trump's travel ban restrictions pale by comparison. This guy embraces a credo of his own creation, and apparently envisions himself as a reincarnated Templar crusader.

Brenton Tarrant praised Trump politics in his manifesto.

    It's so surprising......

It doesn't fit the narrative. The Christchruch massacre (my heart goes out to those impacted) is a progressive wet dream of how evil the white male is. Just take note to post #2 in this thread which says it all.

This was a hate-driven tragedy, repugnant to most in the NRA, caucasians, Christians, and conservative voters. Your knee-jerk priority of touting trumpery is inappropriate. The killer's praise of your messiah does not make Trump a co-conspirator, merely an inspiration - as he has been for white supremacists and neo-nazis in America by their own enthusiastic acknowledgement.

I blame the NRA for mass shootings in other countries too. Oh wait, I’m not unhinged, never mind.

Actually, New Zealand's firearm regulation is recognized as being quite permissive, especially in contrast to neighbouring Australia.

Gun licences are issued at the discretion of the police in New Zealand provided the police consider the person to be of good standing[citation needed] and without criminal, psychiatric or drug issues as well as meeting other conditions such as having suitable storage facilities. They must be issued for a valid reason[citation needed]. Several different categories of licenses are permitted, with the lowest one permitting access to restricted semi-automatic rifles and shotguns, with limited capacity, while the higher levels which permit fully automatic weaponry and pistols are rarely issued to civilians.
