So you do want to take senators away from small states and give them to california

thats would be an insane thing to do even if you could

It is not using the electoral college as intended.

Again, did you forget about you asking which part? If someone knows which part. Why would they ask for what part, considering they allegedly know exactly what part.

Did you need to see your post again where you asked which part?

Yeah, and with the reversal of all the gerrymandering Republicans have been responsible for, the playing field will be much more even.

While I’m not going to try and argue that this is an end around around the constitution, I do believe that if the states do this and continue to allow their population to vote for the president, then they will undoubtedly at some point, go against the will of their own people.

Oh it will be hilarious if they add up all the state vote tallies and Trump has more and all these states where the Democrat won instead have to give him a mandate.

Of course we don't. Your vote only matters in YOUR state it has nothing to do with my vote in my state.

You're waning to turn it into a NATIONAL/FEDERAL election where we all vote under a NATIONAL/FEDERAL system. That means there has to be equal protection and we all vote under the same rules and federal laws. The dates have to be the same, the rules have to be the same, the contest would be on a federal level. Its not so simple as the Democrats would lead you to believe.

    Like what?

Yeah and it will be a big one when their scheme backfires on them.

Its up to the state legislature and we saw in Florida 2000 the state legislature was on the verge of vacating the vote and selecting the panel of electors. But let's say it is two weeks before the vote and clearly Trump is leading by 20 points in nationwide polling over Sanders but the Electoral win would go to Sanders, whats's to prevent some states from reniging?

It's of no matter to other states at this time.

They count within YOUR state and which states are swing states change with time. Your party not winning in your state, go work to make it do so.

Simple. They would do it in the same way they are currently working to do it in many countries. They instigate or exacerbate divisions among the people, they interfere in any way they can in elections, they find a compliant and authoritarian politician (or create one) that they can compromise and then get to do things for them like support and assist them with their foreign policies elsewhere, and the job is done. That country is then under Russian control sufficiently for Russia to be able to increase their strength and dominate wherever they go. And if you're informed on current events, you know that is exactly what is happening here.

Why should the 12 US Senators from Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Utah have 6 times more power over my life than the 2 Senators we get in California? We have 3 times the population of all those states combined. Population centers whose citizens pay most of the federal taxes are overtaxed and under represented. These inequities should be rectified. The original rules devised for 13 revolutionary colonies populated by 90% small farmers is not suitable for today’s situation. This government is supposed to be of the PEOPLE, for the PEOPLE and by the PEOPLE. Adjustments to the constitution have been made from the beginning of our existence of our country. We, the PEOPLE should be able to vote on these issues.

Exactly. And the Republican scheme of gerrymandering is something that is diametrically opposed to that concept as it succeeds in negating the vote and democracy. Too bad my post on this related matter was deleted but that's to be expected given the bias of certain people in this forum.

That is exactly what should be instated. Letting a bunch of corrupt County and State officials who can be bought or sold for chump change (Katherine Harris comes to mind) run a NATIONAL/FEDERAL election is ridiculous. The stakes are far to high to continue these antiquated and corrupt practices. We should have standardized ballots and easily traceable verification systems in place. The candidate with the most votes nationally should be declared the winner. It is high time that we end this ridiculous corrupt clusterf*%k once and for all. The different counties, States, districts and parties can make their own rules and their own ballots but we need to get a grip on important national election ASAP.

Doesn't matter if the swing states change slightly every eight or twelve years. Most states have been reliably Democratic or republican for decades and winner take all in those states disinfranchises the voters of the other party.

Much better to apportion the electoral votes in the states according to the percentages of voters for each candidate. That basically maintains the original function of the electoral college while making every vote actually count.

    1. The current Mueller investigation has charged at least 8 or 9 of Trump's closest advisers with felonies, & most are serving or going to serve jail time for those crimes. Since Trump likes to micro-manage everything & everyone around him, I suspect he was involved in at least some of these personally. I don't know of any criminal activities by Obama during his Presidency, but if you do, I'm interested in being updated. Can you offer examples of criminal activity by Obama that made you so hostile toward him?
    2. I agree that the Democratic Party is shifting more toward the left. It may be a response to the extreme shift toward the far right by the Republican Party since 2009. Unfortunately, the safe, comfortable middle ground is being abandoned by BOTH parties in turn. I find the extremist far right policies of conservative Republicans just as uncomfortable as you find policies of leftist Democrats. Perhaps we could have both found common ground somewhere toward the middle, but Republicans have already abandoned the middle in favor of that extremist right, and now Democrats are responding to that action.
    3. This assertion is pure BS. I know of absolutely NO DEMOCRAT who advocates for late term abortion, and CERTAINLY NOT killing newborns. This is PURE EXTREMIST RIGHT WING FAKE NEWS & PROPAGANDA. It is TOTALLY untrue, and sickening coming from what used to be a respectful opposition party. Ugh. . .:disbelief:
    4. I know of no Democrat advocating for "open borders." While most Democrats oppose the ruthless treatment of innocent asylum seekers by the Trump administration, they DO want secure borders & NO illegal crossings. I've not heard of any program to issue illegals drivers licenses, so tell us where you got that from.
    5. I think I have more than the required "fraction" of common sense, and I'm puzzled by your allegation that Democrats want to "steal" elections. The only case I've seen in the news actually found guilty of doing that was in NC during the 2018 election, and that felony was committed by the Republicans. Do these truths make any impact on you, or is truth no longer a Republican value?
    6. No Democrat I'm personally aware of is interested in "luring" additional immigrants to the U.S. True, many Democrats welcome legitimate immigrants fleeing from homeland horrors, but none of them that I've heard are trying to increase the overall level of immigration here. Obama did a very good job intercepting illegal immigrants--establishing the most successful interception record of any President in our lifetimes. Illegal immigration has increased under Trump. Your point is wrong, and is based on fake or false information.
    7. I've not heard of this, so give us a web site to see it for ourselves, please. Personally, I doubt it's validity.
    8. The "free college" being pushed by Democratic candidates is for American citizens only. I've NEVER heard any Democratic candidate, or Democrat in general, publicly supporting free college for illegals. This sounds like just more fake hype from conservative Republicans to me.
    9. Pure BS. Just another attempt to scare people with fake info. Dirty politics by dirty conservative Republicans, trying to scare you into voting for them. I spent most of my adult life in teaching or working in a university setting, and this charge is completely groundless. But, I HAVE SEEN & HEARD professors & teachers in every education facility I've been connected to, advocate for capitalism with their students. It hasn't happened yet, but I think socialism deserves equal time. Democracies are supposed to be open to the discussion of all sorts of ideas, not just those currently held in favor.

How is it concretly incorrect. Senate confirmation by a Senate that Trump has already gelded is meaningless.

    1) Not one Obama appointee was convicted of any crime whatsoever. Such corruption is typical of Republicans who represent elitist interests. Obama and his people represent the American rank-and-file populace.

    2) Dems shifting left? Correction: the voting majority maybe heading that way and this is why that party has the majority in the US House.

    3) Re abortion - you are correct as that is purely right wing hate filled propaganda.

    4) Not one Democrats has called for open borders. By contrast, right wing libertarians have while Republicans Reagan and Bush offered unconditional amnesty to illegals. This matter has been discussed, documented, and settled REPEATEDLY on this forum.

    5) Democrats stealing elections - yes, that is a laughably pathetic assertion. As I have tried to prove until stopped by a certain party on this forum, gerrymandering is a dishonest tactic and anti-democratic crime employed by Republicans. To say Dems are at fault here is a total absurdity.

    6) Your reply re immigrants "Your point is wrong, and is based on fake or false information." is 100% spot on.

    7) (we await the reply for fuller amplification of the subject)

    8) Taxpayer financing of illegals as claimed by Republicans is, like most of their propaganda, pure hogwash.

    9) ''Pure BS''. True.

As always, we can never get any truth from forum Republicans who always argue but who fail to debate the issues. They continually make assertions but fail to back them up with PROOF. Just yesterday a right wing made the unsupported/undocumented claim that social commentator Ashley Montagu was a Marxist. In fact all bio data on him clearly show he was not. Right wingers continually make claim after claim about Democrats and others but fail to document their claims. Anything they don't like is somehow "Marxist" or "socialist". Yet, they fail to note that it is their own party that has financed, enabled, and empowered America's enemies whether they be Bolsheviks, Hitlerites, al-Qaeda, ISIS, the Japanese war machine of the 1900s, and others.

When will right wingers ever demonstrate integrity and post the truth on this forum???

The Bill Of Rights protects individuals from that. However when a body like the Senate can block or approve any Federal Judicial appointment and the Senate is comprised of a body which does not reflect the views of the general population, it is not fair. States with only a small percentage of the population have far greater impact than they deserve. It’s not even a close call. Subsequently, we have federal judges who are shills for corporate interests at every turn and rule in favor of them at the expense of the people of the USA. We need to rectify these inequities ASAP.
