Why was the South an enemy? The South didn't want a war and didn't try to invade and capture Lincoln and make him and his government a prisoner and capture the capital and make the United States abdicate all power over to the Confederacy. It was the Union that invaded the Confederacy like the North Vietnam invaded South Vietnam. What are you trying to deny here?

Why shouldn't the Southern States who for five years were another country honor those who rose to defend our governments and citizens from invasion?

Exactly, as with all wars follow the money.........it was a tariff/taxation war. ‘Slavery’ was just a way for both sides to motivate the average guy to get his head blown off in the beginning. As the war progressed it became an invasion of the South and Southerners picked up their muskets and traveled hundred of miles to fight off an invading army intent on raping their wives and daughters.......killing their livestock......and themselves
