in otherwords you can't show me where it was ever promised either? if a poster is gonna say it was promised, why not just post a link to such a promise?
your making my argument for me, that some history is not worth putting on a pedestal in the center of town or on a statehouse lawn
they are, all you have to do is agree to it, if you force them to remove it on their on, you have no say in where it goes or if it goes anywhere I say we move them all to the Trump golf courses
Well yes they do but you are agreeing they should not be removing them and having to pass laws to prevent it?
I am not the one trying to defend white nationalist propaganda in the center of town or on the state house lawn, move it to a museum where they can be protected and no, I would not more care about a swastika being destroyed on the statehouse lawn then any other symbol of hate
If they didn't want it, they would not have built the monuments in the first place. They are there to remember not to repeat mistakes of the past.
It's not about white nationalism, it's about the history of the Southern States and those who stood up to defend their country and their government their state and their homes and famies against invading forces hellbent on killing and destroying them, which they did.
some locals do... have a vote, I would go with their vote my problem is the cities that want to remove them but they can't
Why do you allow the few inconsequential self declared "white nationalist" dictate to you as two how memorials must be viewed instead of the actual historical significance and meanings? I certainly don't allow them to dictate to me, maybe I just have more fortitude than you.
Absolutely. Along with ANY public art that might not pass arbitrary virtue signaling purity tests. I'm sure fans of T. Jefferson will appreciate the removal of all memorials to him.
We already have lots of war artifacts in museums. They are there for all to see and learn about. Statues and monuments serve a different purpose. Many were erected on or near turf where battles took place. They need to stay where they are.
Dude if king George had lived here wed have strung him and his kids up and you know it. It's not exclusive to any political philosophy, that sort of **** is human nature. Its evil granted, but I wouldn't imagine any side is free from it
Right there, you engaged in 'virtue signaling'. Knock it off. Its deplorable. I did not use the word 'custody'. I used the word 'ownership'. I am smart enough to know those words have a significantly different meaning. My umbrage is mostly directed at those who think that they are entitled to make this call simply because they want to. If it is my art, I should be able to do with it as I please unless someone can provide a restraining order saying differently. If you want to protect it, you should buy it from me and protect your investment. If you want it to sit somewhere, then buy the property you want it to sit on. If the art is owned by a public jurisdiction - a state, city or county or national govt that is where the decision rested, and that is where a different decision rests pending a change in policy. If the art it sits on is public property, then the same the public representative body that allowed it to be placed on display, should be able to make a different call pending a change in policy. Now you probably know by now that I will not accept a word you utter about the law including those prefaced by the word 'actually', that you do not prove with citations and caselaw. I know that you will inevitably refuse to provide that proof. You like to make claims about the law, and offer nothing more concrete than a coy comment, a figurative wisp of smoke and a emoticon. The result here will be a dead end.
i tought most of the founding fathers where slave owners to better start tearing down statues of george washington & co to
history is history, this rebellion on white Nationalist statues on public government owned land are also a part of history
See ... the litmus test is the biggest problem. Everthing is offensive to someone, and tyranny by the minority is offensive in it's own right. HOA's are the best example, and worst offenders I can think of. Civility & tolerance people ... let's make some effort to get along.
