Can you explain why you wouldn't go down to the homeless shelter and invite one of the poor to come share of your wealth? What would be the reasons you wouldn't do that? Do you care about those people or don't you?

Trust me, they won't even blink. I've seen it first hand. A whole litter of illegals with 2 carts full to the brim, paid zero, then proceeded to their (almost new) Hummer in the parking lot.

I am saying that I live below the poverty level for where I live.

I manage to keep my head above water...as I have since I left home for the military back in 1954.

I still work a couple days a week to supplement my modest Social Security benefit. I do not claim any other benefits, although I am pretty sure I would qualify for SNAP.

I don't begrudge your SS benefit, you paid for it and earned it.

Bottom line is that charity should be voluntary. Those who are compassionate and think "the poor" need help should give it. Those who don't want to should not be forced at the barrel of a gun to do so.

But I am BELOW the poverty level.

If I refused to pay taxes, refused to surrender to the authorities for not paying taxes, and refused to be hauled from my home because of not paying taxes, the authorities would take me by force, at the point of a gun.

 

Perception is an interesting thing. While I'm sure some Conservatives have screwed up lives, the same can be said for some Liberals. But IO'm sure you put on your rose colored glasses when that discussion comes up.

Your response didn't bother addressing the main point.... the idea that Conservatives either look down, or just ignore the poor. Perhaps you might want to adjust that to fit facts, hmm?

As I mentioned, the poverty line is arbitrary. It means nothing. You are wealthy indeed. Considering yourself to be poor does a disservice to the real poor of the world. Look around you and count your blessings. You live like a king compared to the poor.

Not in so many words, but do you recognize that you would rather play golf than personally help the poor? If you were so concerned about the poor, go help them. Typing on an internet forum about conservatives being awful isn't helping the poor in any way. Playing golf is not helping the poor. Get off the net and go volunteer your time to help if you are so concerned. Talk the talk, walk the walk.

Only because I comply because of fear of the proverbial gun. Actually, that is only partially true, because my belief is that every single United States citizen over 25 should pay federal taxes. It is the amount of those taxes and who does and who doesn't have to pay that are in question. Some taxes I gladly pay. Others I grudgingly pay.
