Colombo - Easter Day bomb blasts at three Sri Lankan churches and three hotels killed more than 20 people and wounded nearly 300, a hospital official and police sources said. Colombo National Hospital Director Samindi Samrakoon said she knew of at least 20 deaths and 280 people injured. A police spokesman said that three churches and three hotels were hit. At least two of the hotels and one of the churches are in the capital, Colombo. Another church is in Negombo, north of Colombo. A source in the police said that one of the explosions was at St Anthony’s Church in Kochcikade, Colombo. "Our people are engaged in evacuating the casualties," the source said. St. Sebastian’s church at Katuwapitiya in Negombo posted pictures of destruction inside the church on its Facebook page, showing blood on pews and the floor, and requested help from the public. Sources from two leading tourist hotels in Colombo also confirmed the explosions but did not give any details. There were no immediate claims of responsibility. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...sri-lankan-churches-hotels-idUSKCN1RX038?il=0 Who would do such a thing? While only 9.7% of Sri Lanka's population is muslim, there are problems with Islamic terrorism there. You can read about it from the perspective of one Sri Lankan person: https://secure.avaaz.org/en/communi...p_Islamic_terrorism_on_the_rise_in_Sri_Lanka/ also an article in the news: Sri Lanka sees new threats of terrorism, Muslim extremism What a surprise, the Western media is laying all the blame on the Buddhists, portraying muslims as victims.
Also read an account of Female Genital Mutilation that took place in Sri Lanka here: Let's End Female Genital Mutilation (post #25)
Days ago, i was reading on Buddhists myths. Seems some of them get very violent. In that area i believe.
Must take something very awful to provoke peaceful Buddhists to violence. I keep finding news articles with vague accounts of violence by Buddhists against Christians in Sri Lanka, but I have strong suspicions this is just a fake news story, or mostly exaggerated. I doubt there are any accounts of this alleged Buddhist violence coming from the actual Christian communities in Sri Lanka themselves. https://www.christiancentury.org/bl...-ways-buddhism-shaped-me-sri-lankan-christian
The more I read **** like this the more convinced I become that religion is a form of mental illness.
The conflict between Hindus and Buddhists in Sri Lanka had more to do with economic class, and to some extent coinciding with ethnicity, than it did actually about religion itself. The religious difference only served to highlight the divide.
Why do you think this is about 'religion', and not a problem with a particular religion? You seem to be very vague in what you're referring to, so I don't think I'm able to understand what you're saying.
My point was specifically about religions plural, although I'll agree with you that the religion of Islam has a blood lust. However, there's nothing 'vague' in my asserting that if (for example) Christians, for whatever the reason is, insist upon gathering in one place to do their thing, then they only have themselves to blame if other religious wackos kill them? I mean it's an undeniable fact, don't you agree?
So it would be the same exact thing if there was a congregation of atheists assembling, correct? (The city I'm in actually has 3 separate atheist/agnostic assemblies, if you can believe that. Apparently the atheists around here feel excluded and want the church experience too, at least two of them meet on Sunday)
I put it to you that very few atheists go around killing other atheists just for the hell of it? That's alI have to say on this particular subject.
Wow, talking about cultural blindness. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_Myanmar_anti-Muslim_riots The above was a series of riots that stretched from March into October. And Sri Lanka has been the home for Islamic persecution for years. With major riots breaking out in 2014 and 2018. Burma has also been home to a great many riots and persecutions of Buddhists upon Muslims and other ethnic and religious minorities. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gu_Dar_Pyin_massacre I can only imagine you also believe that Indians were all peaceful and worshiping trees and buffalo before the Europeans arrived. After all, there is a strong connection between Buddhism and Shinto. And we all know what was done by "Japanese Buddhists" before and during WWII. Not all members of the religion are content to suck on lotus leaves and contemplate their navel. They can be just as violent as any other religious group.
You do realize that was a massacre of muslims by a Communist regime, correct? It's a bit disingenuous to conflate the government with Buddhists, anymore than it would be to conflate Franco or Pinochet's regime with Catholicism.
Beyond that, the rohingyas attacked the burmese and killed around 140 people. What tend to forget people is that the reaction of western people to terrorist attack with twitter posts like "you won't get my hate" or "no amalgams" is nothing normal, it's quite rare. For most people, if you attack them, they strike back.
Uhh, you are aware that the Republic of the Union of Myanmar (Burma) is a Parliamentary Constitutional Monarchy, are you not? How you get a "Communist Regime" from that, I have absolutely no idea.
Mostly in name. It was still effectively a one-party state for a long time, and arguably even today. You can't be this ignorant to claim it's a normal free democracy.
Wow. Yes, they are. What part of "Parliamentary Constitutional Monarchy" do you not understand? They have a Parliament that is elected, just like in England. And an elected President, and a female Prime Minister. Yea, if you equate that to Communism, you know little to nothing about this, and I am done here.
