"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday declared that Congress is a “superior branch” of government, as the clash between congressional Democrats and the Trump administration over closely held documents intensifies.

During an interview with Robert Costa for Washington Post Live, Pelosi, D-Calif., was asked whether Congress is functioning as a coequal branch of government.

“I think we’re a superior branch, quite frankly,” Pelosi said. “We have the power to make the law and the president enforces the law. So we have a big role. We’re closest to the people and we have a big role to play.”

The Founding Fathers agreed with her - they gave the majority of law-making power to Congress, not the President. And Congress CAN over-ride Presidential vetos.

Did I fail civics class, House Speaker? Because you are the LOWEST branch of government. The Senate is in the middle, the executive is at the top and above all that, god forbid if we need it is the Supreme Court.

No, she's not right. She's categorically wrong that it's embarrassing that it's coming from the Speaker of the House. First she calls the AG a criminal, next she shows her constitutional illiteracy.

Democrats, why did you return her to power again?

Actually, it seems you did fail. The House and Senate are part of the SAME branch of government - the Legislative. The Executive and Judicial are the others. AND we do rely on the Supreme Court - constantly - to make rulings on laws and actions of the other branches. And Congress CAN over-ride the President on his vetos.

The house and senate are not separate branches. So yes, I’m guessing you did fail or you’ll have when you reach HS

Almost certainly, the founders intended Congress to have more important powers than the President and the Supreme Court.

Is she the speaker of the house or a AOC
    Lap dog?

Seems like AOC has all the Democrat clout in Congress these days.

Well, to quote Bill Clinton: It depends on what 'is' is. Are the House/Senate part of a unitary branch of government? By the terms of the Senate, they wouldn't have you think so(historically, Senators disparge the House of Representatives.). If they're not a unitary branch, then we have to assume the delegation of powers determines the ranking authority.

The House may pass a budget, but it's the Senate who votes and collaborates said bill with the House before reaching the President's desk. Furthermore, it's the Senate that hears treaties and confirmations, and the declaration of war. The House may start impeachment, but the actual trial is done in the Senate.

So it seems the framers did pick the Senate as a higher branch than the House.

Important powers in some aspects and not in others... Neither of the branches are superior to the others.

Embarrassing is claiming that the President has more power than the Congress, when in fact, the Founding Fathers gave Congress the final say on laws sent to the President ... they have the power to over-ride any of his vetos.

Why all three branches are co-equal with oversight of each other...

Not really. Both the Supreme Court and the Congress have limiting powers over the President, they can over-ride any veto made by the President and The Supreme Court can rule any actions of the President unconstitutional - while the President cannot over-ride a veto of Congress, nor can he invalidate a Supreme Court decision.

But the President can up the count of Supreme Court judges as he sees fit and can then pack it with his supporter's. In order to overturn a presidential veto, both houses in Congress must vote to approve the bill by a two-thirds majority. In all honestly, a case can be made that the Supreme Court is actually the most powerful branch.

Per the Constitution Congress is the superior branch of government but it has given away a lot of its powers to the President and to the SCOTUS. The main problem is that Congress is divided into two parts and no one controls both parts. That is not a problem for the executive and judicial branch.

When weak people like Pelosi and McConnell are in charge nothing gets done. The voters seem to like it like that because they keep electing the old buzzards. And what makes it worse is that the sorry Congress Critters won't replace them.

Andrew Jackson told the SCOTUS to go ___ itself and he ignored its decision.

You just proved that Congress has more power when you stated that in order for the President to pack the court, he has to get it passed by Congress. In fact, Congress has the power to REDUCE the number of judges. And Congress can change the Constitution by adding Amendments (if ratified by the States) - neither the President or the Supreme Court can do that. Congress IS the most powerful body in regards to Constitutional power. Sorry, Pelosi haters.

Not easily. And she said the executive branch is tasked with enforce the laws which is patently false.

The objection of the founding fathers was to balance government branches.
