"President Trump takes over Fourth of July celebration, changing its location and inserting himself into the program"

"President Donald Trump has effectively taken charge of the nation’s premier Fourth of July celebration in Washington, moving the gargantuan fireworks display from its usual spot on the Mall to be closer to the Potomac River and making tentative plans to address the nation from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, according to top administration officials."

"The president's starring role has the potential to turn what has long been a nonpartisan celebration of the nation's founding into another version of a Trump campaign rally. The revised Independence Day celebration is the culmination of two years of attempts by Trump to create a major patriotic event centered on him and his supporters"

"No president has participated in a Fourth of July celebration on the Mall in recent memory"

    https://www.adn.com/nation-world/201...o-the-program/

The Congresswomen in the article put it best, the Fourth of July is "not about any one president. It's not about any one person, it's about 'We, the people.' And if the president moves to make this about him, I think he will find the America public disappointed and angered by it."

Leave it to Trump to f*ck up a National holiday making it political in order to benefit himself

If Trump moved it closer to the Potomac it wouldn't be at the Mall, can liberals get any more intellectually dishonest?

Not just the moving of the traditional location or procedures, but rather Trump inserting himself into the celebrations, as the article says, making it a Trump rally

No worries, the only people who will whine are the same people who whine that Trump won in the first place. This is totally a non-issue and will only enhance his supporters' view of him, its pretty much win/win. Liberals will whine, but they whine all day every day, that plays into Trump's hands, all he has to do is call you folks out...

People really need to read thing and read between the lines. This is happening according to top administration officials, ie anonymous officials. It also says a possible address by Turmp.

Nothing, just like we have in the past, but Trump centering it upon Trump knowing that he will milk it politically is not "celebrating with the POTUS," it is turning it into a gym rally

Maybe we're just tired of Trump groping the Flag like he does his mistresses ...

Wasn’t trump the one that wanted a military parade to honor himself like other dictators?

Here we go with the "sources" again, the article cites comments from local DC offices regarding the logistics involved and everyone knows this has been one of Trump's ideas since he came back from France.

I always find it comical when advocates of right wing media start complaining about "sources," they listen nightly to demagogues who pedal conspiracies and innuendos without any documentation and then become critics when they see something they can't accept as true

Why do Democrats even care? They hate racist America and it's capitalism and imperialism.

What if, people want this? I think it's our subdued attitude towards our country, that has created not only the divisions, but made any sort of national unity impossible. Our idea of celebrating July 4th has been to eat hotdogs, hamburgers, etc and watch those beautiful fireworks.

Nice, subdued, but ultimately I can't say it expresses too much love. To me, there was a very unique energy for example as the French have their parades, and yes in my introduction into the Third Position, I watched videos of the leaders of their times and the energy of those crowds.

That generates real long-term results. People loving each other and supporting each other. Truly feeling a part of something bigger than themselves, something special.

Leave it to Democrats to find something negative about celebrating the 4th of July. They're not used to a patriotic President. They're used to a President that goes on overseas tours apologizing for America for being racist, imperialist, and capitalist pigs for using too many resources and polluting the planet.

Trump is patriotic to Trump Inc. Nothing more. It's all about branding.

Inserting any political figure into what has been traditionally nonpolitical, making him/her the center of the celebration, changes the character of the day, and with Trump, it drastically alters the way Americans would view it

We'd have a lot less debt if we were imperialist, for starters we'd literally make all of the countries we trade with agree to deals that result in a positive net growth for the US. Instead, we're more reciprocal(not saying this is a bad thing) and enabling other countries to grow(not necessarily refering to China here. We technically have an imbalance with Britain.) with the rest of the world.

I'd like to continue moving forward on ways to close that debt, but I'm not going to do arm twisting to do it. It makes it less likely for future deals.

The economy would be the same with any Republican President ... probably not much different with a Democrat one.
So far, Trump has made only one promise he has kept - that he would be too busy to play golf.

Trump ain't patriotic, hugging a flag doesn't make you patriotic, and the day isn't about Trump, or any President, as the quote said, "it is about We the People"

Replace Donald Trump with Barack Obama(or insert non-controversial president here), and do you have the same feelings? The presidency in the US is a de-facto figurehead. Only problem is, this figurehead has been so universally despised(since Eisenhower IMO) that his/her effectiveness is rendered moot.

Trump's attempting to fix a most crucial problem, even if it serves himself. We need to be able to unite around something.

As soon as AJ sees this thread he's going to moan about the title of it not matching the article. :salute:

And am I reading this right, libs are upset about tradition? Really? Libs are all about stomping on our traditions while honoring and respecting the traditions of foreign countries.
