Wow. No exemption for rape or incest. I remember a conservative on this forum once told me that very, very few conservatives support banning abortion in cases of rape or incest. Yet that's about to be law in Alabama.

If you're a woman, time to move out of Alabama. If you get pregnant from rape, you will have to carry to term because no doctor will perform an abortion on you.

This is how conservatives see woman. Chattel.

Like the Ohio law that is already in effect, an 11 year old that is raped and impregnated by her father would be forced — by law — to carry that child to term.

The resulting birth would likely severely damage the 11 year old to the extent that should she not die she could be infertile for the remainder of her life.

Also note these states are not prepared for the massive expansion in social services that will be required to care for the unwanted children — which typically also cause a significant increase in crime rates. You would think some of the most unhealthy and undereducated states in the nation would have better things to do with their time, but no.

Bad medicine, a woman should have the right to choose, shows that the right wing resurgence is a very real things in the US.

Need a new amendment prohibiting laws that take away bodily autonomy.

It is a direct challenge to Roe v Wade. That is the whole point of this and similar legislation around the country.

    "Right wing resurgence"?

No, this is Old Time Social Conservatism in the heart of the Bible Belt that never went away. Libertarians and libertarian-conservatives don't support this and other forms of government interference in people's private affairs.

If passed, this bill is going to die in court, and Alabama is going to lose a lot of money in the process.

The law firm of D*uchebag, D*uchebag, and D*uchebag (with a lot of Partners)

This is completely appalling....what year is this again??

The only silver lining to this news is that Doug Jones may be back in play again in 2020.... I can't imagine a single woman in Alabama voting Republican ever again...

There is zero chance this makes it through the first court challenge, but you stay classy, Alabama...

I'd scratch them off of my potential vacation list, but ......... who am I kidding.... Alabama was already behind Ethiopia (off season)....

    Idiotic remark.

Never mind that there are a lot of women in this country who oppose abortion...

They want this to go to the supreme court to try to reverse Roe vs Wade. This is silly.
I'm pro choice myself with the exception of those who use abortion as a contraceptive aka the serial aborter, and yes it does exist, due to them having greater risk of costly complication with the rest having to pay for their medical treatment.

This word is key to understanding this legal action in Alabama. No one has eliminated abortions. RU486 and early abortions can still be performed. Folks can take the pill which acts as RU486, or they can wear a condom or decide not to have sex until they can take on the responsibilities of whatever might happen. If you don't know what you want going into consensual sexual intercourse, can you really give your consent to sex? In the case of rape, probably best to have a d 'n c anyway, soon after. Get that creep out of your body and into prison where he belongs.

The Ohio "law" isn't in effect yet either... all of these Stone Age attempts at controlling women are still being challenged, where they will all fail.... But still, who ARE these people passing this sh*t??

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/ohio-a...tion-after-new-ohio-abortion-bill-2019-05-13/

They are pretending laws like this are going to actually stop a single abortion...

Yes. Typically women who are okay with being chattel have that opinion.

Right. If a woman doesn't think how "progressives" tell her to think she's "okay with being chattel".

While I do understand your point, these ideas are not Stone Age and they are not attempts at controlling women.

These attempts to outlaw abortion are completely tied to the child within that woman! I certainly don't doubt that some small percentage do have control in mind when looking at these issues, but a majority are simply focused on the baby.

None of that is to say I am offering my opinion here. I am just saying, stopping abortion is way more about saving the baby than it is about the archaic attempts to control women.

But God is on their side!

They'd be better off spending their time and money trying to persuade women to choose life instead of wasting both getting slapped down in court.

ala acknowledges the point of the law is to overturn Roe's holding that a fetus is not a person. We'll see.

This law can directly be traced to historic and unprecedented obstruction of Obama's Supreme Court pick and the subsequent election of Donald Trump.

An absolutely horrendous development for human rights have taken place in Ohio, Georgia, and now in Alabama. I am incredibly worried about the degradation of our constitutional rights once these laws reach the Supreme Court. I am also terrified about the prospect of a rampant increase of criminal behavior and the strain upon society that will likely result in these states ~15 years after the laws take effect.

I hold very little hope that the Supreme Court will continue to uphold Roe v. Wade.

I think McConnell was more motivated by citizens united and the general principal that corporations should have greater rights to oppose congressional reglulation.

I doubt either Roberts or Gorsuch will go along with Ala's ploy. I thought at the time of Garland, the Christian Fundy approach that would succeed was just by putting more and more "regulations" that were really intended as impediments on health care providers rather than protections for patients. I still think that, but modern pharmaceuticals may "intervene" (-:

Biology (science) tells us that the human life cycle begins at conception and ends at natural death.

You do believe in science, don't you?
