Tariffs are taxes on you and me for whatever the reason and collecting them can help to reduce the staggering national debt.

Your post is making my point right for me.

Do you think that the less fortunate are not "real" Americans who don't deserve your patriotic love and support as compatriots?

Patriotic love. LOL. What a bunch of crap. People who work are the real patriots. They work, take care of their families, pay their bills and taxes, and they owe nothing to anyone else that refuses to work. Your patronizing is an insult to people's intelligence.

So, someone who is disabled and cannot work cannot be a real patriot? You keep making my point.

BTW, in the definition of patriotism, I don't see a requirement to work:

    1. Special affection for one’s own country
    2. A sense of personal identification with the country
    3. Special concern for the well-being of the country
    4. Willingness to sacrifice to promote the country’s good
In your definition of patriotism, however, I see unwillingness to sacrifice to promote the country's good by paying your fair share of taxes.

Second, I work, take care of my family, pay my bills and taxes, and owe nothing to anyone else. Am I still less of a patriot in your book, since I don't mind the government supporting the less fortunate through my taxes?

Wouldnt working and paying taxes ( for those able) apply to all four?

Umm....no. Americans don't want to pay more taxes.

Contrary to Spartacus Booker's self-serving delusion, the last thing a patriotic American would want to do is hand even more power and money to an inefficient, over-bloated freedom-killing federal government that treats our Constitution like toilet paper. Far better to keep more of that power and money in the hands of the American people and let them exercise their freedom to dispose of it as they see fit.

Of course, Spartacus wants to dispose of more of our money as he sees fit, hence the ridiculous BS he is spouting...

I don't see where Pipette8 said he/she was unwilling to pay his/her fair share of taxes, especially in light of the fact he included paying one's taxes as part of being a responsible, contributing and perhaps patriotic member of society.

But you were too busy virtue-signaling to notice that, weren't you?

Looking after the truly needy is one thing, but the self-serving "progressives" in Washington who are fond of redistributing other people's hard-earned money to people who aren't truly needy in order to buy votes are going way beyond that. So are their sanctimonious co-travelers and supporters. All they're interested in is power and their own selfish interests.

There's nothing patriotic about encouraging government (i.e., taxpayer) dependency and taking the food off of working men and womens' tables to pay for it. Our leaders should be encouraging individuals to become the strong, self-sufficient and self-motivated people who are capable of helping the truly needy instead of encouraging them to be the weak, dependent and unmotivated people who can't even take care of themselves.

The president who once said "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" couldn't get a job as a dog catcher in today's Democratic party because it doesn't promote and stand for individual responsibility anymore. Democrats would rather destroy this country than render themselves obsolete, which tells us all we need to know about their so-called "patriotism" and "altruism".

Aren't the imposition of high tariffs levied on other countries by Trump simply the imposition of higher taxes on us, along with the destruction of industries affected like the farm industry? Of course it is, yes?

Very few people ( only the extremely selfish and probably less than 1%) mind supporting the less fortunate but more than a few people mind supporting the lazy. (55%?)

    Two completely different groups (unfortunate/lazy)

And Trump is doing what to the patriotic American with his imposition of high tariffs? Umm....Americans will be paying more taxes,
which are called "tariffs" and industries are being decimated. A double whammy, yes?

He is indeed taking food off of working men and women's table to finance his tariff wars as you pay more for the food on your table, a lot more. This con-man can do anything to his followers and still have your approval. What a guy, yes?

The idea behind the tariffs which in my opinion is a two-stage thing a long-term and short-term issue, is that if Chinese products are more expensive then it can contribute towards more domestic sales because domestic products will be more competitive.

If domestic products still can't compete even after tariffs then either a we will pay slightly more for the foreign products or we will buy less of them, probably both. If we buy less then it hurts China and it motivates China to equal the playing Ground because we purchase such an enormous amount of product.

China understands this. Some people in America with big brains understand this as well but it's not just cheap Chinese Imports but a more widespread issue such as IP theft.

Most Economist's or people that at least understand this fully grasp the issue which simply put is that China has been taking advantage of us in several ways and Trump is trying to reconcile that issue.

So yes I'm willing to pay 5% more for product X or product y from China but I would prefer to buy American Products supporting American workers. If it takes some Financial incentive to force people do that in mass and I'm okay with it.

American manufacturers will raise prices when the competition raises their prices. IP theft is another important issue is being addressed.
Trump's "bull in a china shop" approach is hurting our country in other ways as our 'allies' and competitor countries are going in different directions for their trade agreements and political unions. Our farm industry is being decimated and no amount of free money
bailouts will get their markets back. I am glad that you are willing to pay 5% more, but will it be only 5% or will their products be sent elsewhere resulting in much higher prices here?

No, you don't got me. Trump's "bull in a china shop" manner of negotiating is hurting us in many ways. I agree that the IP issue is non-negotiable.

Document this "harm".. Then show what the situation with China previous to it.

    I am asking you to
    1) document your claims
    2) actually have a clue what you speak of

A desperate deflection on your part, yes.

So, where does allowing China to continue to decimate American industries and workers fit into your definition of "patriotic"?

I've been willing to pay more for American goods than cheap Chinese crap for years, so the tariffs haven't affected me as much as the people who aren't willing to support American industry and workers to save themselves a buck. When you compare value, the superiority of American goods is worth the additional cost, or as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.

It's interesting how Democrats have an issue with supporting working Americans but don't have a problem supporting Americans who aren't working or are just demanding free stuff, like "free" tuition, "free" healthcare and "free" income. That's one of the main reasons why your bête noire Donald Trump is president and Democrat Hillary Clinton is not.

I've generally been willing to pay for American Goods over foreign goods for quite some time myself even though I will admit at times it can be quite difficult.

Recently I needed an electrical tester and literally every single one I found it The Big Box store was either Chinese or from Taiwan.

I ended up buying the Chinese 1 in the damn thing didn't work right out of the box so I returned it of course and a few days later I got a flyer in the mail from Harbor Freight giving one away with any purchase and ironically it worked just fine.

It can be a tad frustrating but it's consumer-driven. As a whole we haven't really been loyal to American Products for some time now and it takes a while to adjust collectively.

Circling back to the other example yes it's certainly possible that American manufacturers will increase their prices possibly to just generate more profit & maybe just take advantage of our loyalty but then it's up to us to make the right decision on every purchase.

For example I generally preferred to go to my local hardware store over the Home Depot types and recently I bought an outlet cover just one of those plastic things and it was $1.79. I ended up at Home Depot a few days later and saw the same damn thing for $0.50, I bought the cheaper one took it home it works fine and then took the overpriced one back and my reason for return is it was overpriced. It really wasn't worth the time or trouble to save 1.29. It was out bbn of principle that i went through the effort.

    .79 vs 50c? No problem.
    1.79 vs 50? Nope.

What's interesting about your definition of patriotism is that it turns all the anthem kneelers and flag burner into non patriots and the same can be said for those who disparage Trump as that does not support the well being of the county. Also, anyone spending a nickle on illegals while we still have disabled and homeless people would also qualify as a non patriot. And then there are those who fly the Mexican flag and the celebrities who said they'd leave the country if Trump was elected. By your own definition, CNN, MSNBC, the NY Times, etc, would not be patriots since they, too, are not showing any concern for the well being of the country and they're certainly no doing anything to promote for the country's good.

Dude, you just pretty much put the entirety of liberals on blast as not being patriots.

If only there was an example of life under extremely high taxes! A place with no tent cities and no feces on the sidewalk! A beautiful city where the roads are smooth and the schools are producing great results. If only...

Trump pulled a dominance move over mexico.

Booker has an imaginary gangster friend named T-bone.

Remember 'T-Bone,' Cory Booker's Imaginary Drug Dealer Friend?
The New Jersey senator is a friend of criminal justice reform, but his best friend might steal the spotlight.

Who's talking about "extremely high taxes"? Nobody. If the GOP wouldn't recklessly cut taxes during each administration, there would be no need to raise taxes.
