Similar treatment of Reagan and Trump

OK, take Bork out of the facts and then you have -- Thomas and Kavanaugh being treated like a step-child. Now compare that treatment to Kagan and Sotomayor who were treated like royalty. What say you to that?

I shall recommend the finest book discussing President Reagan.

Democrats do not mind one bit that the latest death toll, topping all presidents is Abe Lincoln. Him they praise.

It is possible that Reagan holds the record for fewer deaths in combat than the rest of the presidents.

Trump may now top the list of hated presidents but Reagan they truly despise to this day.

Reagan is the first Republican I voted for when I changed parties.

You hit some of the highlights of fiction told about presidents. He supposedly had alzheimer's as president yet his own doctor stated that was a lie.

 

Is it? Prior to Bork when was there a contentious nominee? Especially a Democrat one

 

Trump has it worse. Nothing he does is correct by Democrats and the media.

Trump actually is insulted by our media far more than Reagan was.

This book is a very good reference on Reagan's presidency based on interviews of members of his administration, critics ,and family. Basically all those who knew him are interviewed and the testimonies are separated by event or topic such as the assassination attempt, SDI, Iran-Contra, and the like. THIS IS NOT NARRATIVE OF HIS PRESIDENCY. but its a good reference nonetheless

When this book came out, I read it cover to cover. I live in CA yet based on my recommendation, a friend living near Houston, TX was ready to read the book so I mailed my book to him. We both agree this is a fine work when you want or need to know Reagan and understand the man. My book was mailed back and to this day, I use the book as reference on forums where lies about reagan are all over. If you want truth, this is the book. This is a FACT filled book. Being challenged over Iran Contra, read this book. Want to find out about TOW weapons to Iran? How Israel got the ball rolling? You need this book.

Do you REALLY want to know about the Reagan presidency? Then read this book. No fluff, no guff. Just verbatim testimonials from dozens of prominent figures of the Reagan era. Ignore the imbecilic prattle of the anti-Reagan Marxists who despised the man. One helpful hint: take some notes. The authors and editors give the job titles of the interviewee only when they are first introduced. Later in the book it is impossible to remember everones's job titles, and you'll be turning back to earlier text. This is the only reason I docked it a star.

The two administrations have many similarities. The media hated both.

The one big difference is that Reagan had class.

 

Part of the reason for the way the media treat Trump vs. the way they treated Reagan is that Trump is contentious and turns every disagreement into a flamewar, where Reagan would just slide on by with a one-liner.

Because Trump can be made to react, he is provoked into doing so. Since his reactions are overwhelmingly negative, that is the way he is portrayed and perceived. Reagan couldn't be provoked as easily and when he was, his reactions were mostly charming. Therefore he was portrayed and perceived that way.

 

Notice you encounter Democrats alleging they liked Reagan. But they show what they really believe by sucker punching Reagan. And they make up stories about Reagan as they still do about Trump.

 

Democrats with no class call Reagan stupid. Reagan supposedly was going to cause WW3. People want to hate Trump so they hate him. Nancy can call for him to be in prison and the media glorifies her. That per the media does not qualify as an attack. But if he says she wears red shoes, that becomes an attack.

 

Look at the questions they ask Reagan. In hindsight those questions were bs. Now does Reagan put up with more false premises than Trump you bet but the same types of questions are asked

Both Reagan and Trump are effective communicators. (vastly different style though)

Both know how to side step the media's arrows (again in a vastly different style)

 

How can any reporter or journalist or author allege Reagan had alzheimer's. So lucid he was he owned all the reporters.

Second one sees a demonstration of not the gift of BS owned by Obama, but a man who owned his own plans and dismissed the notion of trading arms for hostages.

Strober in their book explains the complex nature of the weapons sold to Iran. TOW weapons are for tanks. Reagan understood such weapons and how important it was to put an end to Saddam.

 

Notice in the video how serious the journalists were in their questioning. Yet when they interview a democrat they smile, laugh, and look longingly at the democrat.

 

And it's that difference that gets Trump into hot water all the time. Look at independents, policy wise, they agree with Trump on some, disagree on others. Basically 50-50. So one would think when it comes to job approval or favorable/unfavorable ratings, they'd be split fairly evenly. Within a point or two of being even. It isn't so. But independents give Trump a 40% approval/52% disapproval.

It's Trump personality, his persona. I think it is they don't like Trump's brash, in your face, bullying type antic or personality. That makes Trump an easy man to dislike even if one agrees on most of his issues and policies. You dislike the man, so you come to the conclusion Trump is a bad president.

 

A radio show host said Democrats and the media for as long as he can remember always said Republican's are stupid, that going back to Ike. They always fear monger, GOP wants to throw grandma to the curb, want people to die, the usual rhetoric. They would do the same to Reagan, but he was an easy going and likable guy and instead of counter attacking, he would just let it run off. That's how he became the Teflon president. Of course they were no where near as vile as they are to Trump. Internationally, fear mongering resulted in the Left calling him a cowboy that would get us into a major war. They were afraid of him having the nuclear keys and that fear caused Iran to give up the hostages as soon as he took office. He was tough on the Soviets and started policies to bankrupt them. I thin ke was well liked by our allies and our enemies found he was not the paper tiger Carter was.

 

Are grown men really this upset over how a person, who they don't personally know, is being treated?

 

The left still hates Reagan, so I must conclude they will always hate Trump.

Iran contras was true, and everyone knew it. Reagan was smart enough to own it up front, which is why it didnt’ come back to haunt him.

George HW Bush, who almost undoubtedly was heavily involved in it, made sure his Attorney General, William Barr, submarined the investigations.

Yes, the media hated Ronald Reagan. They didn’t like his politics, and they didn’t like the fact that he was the star of his own show.

But Reagan wasn’t stupid enough to act like the petulant little five year old that is in the White House at the moment.

Robert Bork was the guy who finally executed Nixon’s Saturday Night Massacre. It was an affront to even nominate him.

Reagan quickly became, and remained, a popular president.

Trump never has, and never will. He does not have the chops.

 

And they both had eyes, two arms, and two legs (only one had a functioning brain though). What you are describing is common to all POTUS.

 

Reagans Iran-Contra war was illegal and funded by hooking black American's on crack cocaine.

I'm 55 years old and remember the Reagan years clearly and Reagan was trashed by the left just like Trump is constantly being trashed.

Times have changed and people back then were a little more reserved. In today's world, there's no holding back. Trump is getting the worst that I've ever seen.

 

Another big difference is that Reagan had decorum, decency, the ability to communicate verbally but the yugest difference is that Reagan had principles.
