The year 2020 will be here before you know it and The Democrats are going to have to pick a Presidential Candidate that can stand up to the current President Donald Trump. What do the Democrats want in a Presidential Candidate? If you can come up with ideas on what the Democrats need in their Candidate, Post it here. Thank you

Was seriously considering running for that Dem nomination, Richie

Had plenty of dough ready to fund a robust campaign

But, most unfortunately, I've been told that the main plank in my platform … rounding up every single filthy rightie in the country and permanently relocating them to the plutonium-contaminated Marshall Islands … might be a lil too controversial...

Someone who will tax high earning successful people and then give them free stuff and cancel their debts.

Healthcare reform, tax reform and education reform should be the big three.

No ‘free’ stuff but rather fixing our systems.

Unfortunately, reparations and more affirmative action (and giving illegals benefits that citizens do not even enjoy) seems to be the 2020 platform.

So it doesn’t matter — trump has already won.

I'm hoping for a universal basic income candidate. That's why I'm voting for Andrew Yang in the Democratic primary.

That's very noble but it would be better to back someone who could beat trump.

I thought that almost anyone can beat Trump? Are you saying that Yang is offputting? I view him as the only capitalist left in the democratic party who is currently running.

It doesn't matter whet the Dem electorate wants. Like 2016, the Dem nominee will be chosen before the first primary vote is cast.

Well, at least Yang would allow a lot of Antifa members to stay in their moms basements.

The Democratic voters have little say so who the DNC will decide who gets the nomination.

The DNC is not like the RNC where the registered Republics get to make the decision who will be the Republican candidate for President.

If the RNC were just half as corrupt as the DNC is, it would be President Jeb Bush today.

Well, not necessarily. I don't want a million welfare benefits programs that no one will be able to use because they don't know about it. I'll take the money instead of a welfare program. Thank you.

Of course you'll shamelessly take taxpayer money you didn't earn, your a leftist.

You think UBI is an "instead of welfare thing"? Okay then, what happens to a person who takes the UBI, and spends it all on drugs and booze? Are they then left to die in the streets? There are no more welfare programs, so what's to save them?

A distinction without merit, the check still says from the United States Treasury. Why do you think you or anyone else is owed a basic income and other people have to provide it to you?

It’s a subjective question. What Democrats want may be antithetical to what will win the election. If a progressive candidate wins the nomination, it’s going to be a Sisyphean task to win electoral votes in the South as well as the Midwest. On the other side there is an alternative problem. If a moderate/centrist wins the nomination the progressives may stay home again.

What's to save them now? In places like California, where they have a homeless problem, it seems like there are always people who will be homeless, living in a tent on the sidewalk or under a bridge or underpass.

In an interview with a homeless person, they said the average lifespan of a homeless person is 2 years.

I have a hidden disability. Schizoaffective disorder (That's Schizophrenia and Depression). If I ever made it through the hard to pass disability of Social security would be $300 a month. If I went on SSI, which would up that to $500 then I wouldn't be able to save up to make my life better (Whith SSI I can't save more than $2000 in a bank account).

Since Andrew Yang's UBI is $1000 a month, it is always a better choice than the disability program, at least for me.

I think a tulsi-ryan ticket would be a good one for the dems to go forth. The south is pro military and many would rather vote for a combat vet than a draft dodger. Ryan is a street fighter from Ohio who I think will play well in the rust belt. But will Obama work for her down south in NC and florida to insure a high black turnout? She was very critical of Obama's mid-east policy.

Because as a US citizen I take part in a economic society that allows some people to accumulate vast amounts of wealth. I protected this economic society in a war that was fought for rich people to make more money. Therefore I want my cut.

Since I pay 33% of my income in taxes why should they not?

Its a delicate dance. On the one hand, Dems are looking for someone who will restructure the areas of healthcare and education to properly allocate funding (that already exists) that will benefit the most people. But we also need someone who will have the ability to defeat Trump on the debate stage and on election day.

Beating trump on the debate stage is the easy part. They have to shift the focus to the percentage of people still in the workforce and not the government unemployed. The election has to be made about Trump the man, fairer income tax structure, Xenophobia, and wild swings in foreign relations. Selling nuclear tech to the Saudis, pulling out of the nuclear agreement with russia, Illegal immigration, racial discrimination in sentencing in the federal level.
And frack frack frack. Coal and fossil fuel subsidies. And infrastructure repairs.

Then go accumulate wealth and stop demanding that of others.

You think the was was only fought for rich people? Then why did you sign up?

Because they pay more and if you are paying 33% of your income to the federal government in income taxes then you are already wealthy and in the top .1% of earners.
