The US wants Germany to send troops to Syria to partially backfill the diminishing American presence there – even though Berlin rules out any intervention in that war and Damascus sees Western forces there as “invaders.”
Washington has formally asked Berlin to take its place in the Syrian conflict, replacing a certain portion of the US contingent, Special Representative for Syria Engagement James Jeffrey told Die Welt’s Sunday edition and DPA news agency, adding that he awaits a response from the German government this month. He said the request directly related to the ongoing US drawdown on Syrian soil.

Washington is currently reaching out to coalition members that are against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) and are willing to send military personnel to Syria, the diplomat explained. He then sang Germany’s praises, calling the country an important partner in the fight against IS that is able to throw its weight behind the US.

Steffen Seibert (spokesman of chancellor Merkel) already denied that wish.

Very wise. Of course Israel won't be too happy. Always remember the Hamburg Cell and the role it played in 9/11. Don't give the islamists anymore ideological ammunition.

How about a credible source, not RT?
You keep quoting RT and I’ll start to believe that you are a Russian, not German.

How about, who cares? Since I didn't think the US should have been in Syria, I'm not going to weep if the Germans don't go. Besides, I doubt the Germans could pull off that kind of deployment now. They had best stay home.

RT is at least as credible as CNN, and definitely more credible than Fox.

I don't think you have a real sense of where the world is right now.

There are lots of legitimate sources like Routers, Bloomberg and others.
Fox and CNN are very partisan, but they don’t make **** up like RT or Sputnik does.
If you use RT regularly then there is nothing for us to talk about.

They're all biased. Fox is a joke. RT is at least as reliable as CNN, like I said.

Do you think that someone who uses RT regularly would equate it to CNN?

I use tons of sources for news, though I favor Al Jazeera, which is certainly biased itself.

Russian trolls like to equate RT to CNN, but as much as I hate CNN I’d grudgingly admit that their articles have some truth to them and a ton of opinion.
RT quite often doesn’t have any reality associated with their articles.
That’s why anyone using and quoting RT on regular basis reveals themselves to be Russian trolls.
And I used to think you are a real deal on this forum...

I’ll give you the benefit of a doubt.
I, myself, use news.google.com. The site gives you news from variety of sources. RT shows up maybe once per month. Sputnik never does. That’s why I have a hard time believing anyone posting a quote from RT and pretending to be anyone but Russians - nobody reads that junk but their trolls.

The RT article cited in the OP has a link to the original source (Die Welt) embedded right in the story. If you want to go to the original source, it's right there.

Here you go: Washington has formally asked Berlin to take its place in the Syrian conflict, replacing a certain portion of the US contingent, Special Representative for Syria Engagement James Jeffrey told Die Welt’s Sunday edition and DPA news agency, adding that he awaits a response from the German government this month.

link is underlined in the above paragraph.

Sorry, I don’t even want to click on RT articles. It’s like stepping on excrement - you are not going to die from it, but you still avoid it at any cost.
You want your post treated with respect? Quote reputable sources.

What's not reputable about it? It doesn't deviate from the original source and has a link right in the story. What's Bloomberg, in this case, got over that?

Your Russophobia isn't shared by everyone here, so you're just wasting space going on about it.

Hah! No, they don't. Somebody call Jeannette in here and ask what she thinks about comparing CNN to RT.

Hmm... Sounds like another news site I can think of.

    Talk about hysteria.

Germany probably denied the request because it would put Germany at odds with Russia's interest in Syria.

Syria became unstable because of Assad. It started out as a civil war.

Outside intervention came from terrorist groups moving into Syria to take advantage of the situation.

Brutal, self-serving dictators are the best(as far as stability) form of governance for the Islamic countries.

It's the only form of government that will keep the hardcore jihadists in check, and prevent the warlords-and-slave-markets situation that is the default state of Muslim societies.

It was a mistake to take out Saddam Hussein, and Muammar Gaddafiduck, and we need to learn the simple lesson that such brutal facist lunatics are the best form of Muslim governance for everybody involved.

Hands off Syria, let Assad work his brutal fascist lunatic magic.

Many Syrians left because of Assad. Do you really think they will return while Assad is still the president? Think about what your comrade Wadephul believes Germany should consider the request for this reason:

But deputy conservative parliamentary leader Johann Wadephul told news agency DPA that Germany should "not reflexively reject" the US call for troops.

"Our security, not the Americans', is being decided in this region," added Wadephul, seen as a candidate to succeed Ursula von der Leyen as defense minister if she is confirmed as European Commission chief.
