Issues

• The GOP has only won the popular vote once since 1988 but they have won the presidency 3 times. If Trump wins the EC again (Never ever ever ever ever ever will he win the popular vote) and loses the popular vote that will mean 3 out of 4 GOP wins is via the EC and not the people.
• It is FPTP meaning the in a state that is 51% one party the other 49% have no say in the presidency.
• These Presidents who are not wanted by the people are getting to stack the courts forcing the will OF THE MINORITY onto the whole country. (Muh minority rule is freedum ur majority rule is tyranny)

Fixes
1. Have the Lower House elect the executive like most other countries. So the house of reps decides the President.

2. Popular vote so that 2000 and 2016 never happen again

3. Make the presidents unaffiliated and have everyone from all parties on the same ballot and then do preliminary and the top 2 go head to head in the EC system.

Our current system is a mess. In a few decades we could have a situation where only around 10% elect the president as more and more people move out of the centre of the country.

The gop is vastly out of touch with the majority of Americans and they know it. They just don’t care anymore. It’s win my any means necessary, we saw plenty of examples of this in 2018 — it’s only bound to get worse.

We need to implement ranked voting and secure our elections for all Americans.

Thankfully two of the largest demographic backers for the gop are on the decline so hopefully that alone will make them reevaluate their party platform. Young republicans are much less extreme than your average republican but young democrats seem to be more extreme than your average democrat.

The Electoral College puts state governments in charge of election of the President.
It's a winner take all system, but at least that process keeps the integrity of the election results in the hands of states. If we didn't have that system, elections could become very contentious and contested, with states having a reason to fake the election results under their jurisdiction.

That's what those who want to get rid of the Electoral college do not understand.

Yes, might not be the most inherently fair, but it helps guarantee fairness by preserving the integrity of election results by making it decentralized. A state that supports candidate A will never suppress minority votes for candidate B, because it doesn't matter, all their electors will still choose candidate A. This keeps the federal government out of the state's business.

 

Sour grapes from the Left. You would like to see two or three highly populated states determine the outcome of every election over the will of most of the other states. LA County alone has over 10 million people, more than 41 states. Four times the number Hillary had over Trump in votes. While most of the nation was for Trump. If we went by the popular vote, all you would have to do is control the media in those big states like they do with the NY and LA Times and you could win every time. I think it's obvious when you look at the map and the counties won all over the nation that where you don't have a heavy population and heavily bias media, that most of the country wanted Trump. I think our forefathers were smart enough to see this and wanted to make sure that all the states had a voice in the outcome of the vote, not just 2 or 3.

You'll notice that after 88 California has its largest jump in ec votes and you'll also notice after 1970 short form census (which were the ones most sent out) didn't have a citizenship question.

So you couple those together and one can surmise that Democrats were/are counting illegal immigrats and those fictious numbers are used to determine ec votes giving states like California and Texas more power than they should have.
