What do the Democrats want in a Presidential candidate in 2020?

Quit just fixating on the income tax. we pay a lot more than the income tax, we pay fica, medicare, gas tax, sales tax- taxes are taxes. I want SS eliminated and everyone to have basic medicare insurance. Everyone gets a small 1.5x poverty level pension at age 66. Everybody gets the same benefits, and pays the same federal taxes. 33%
I paid 10,000 in taxes on 65,000 of income after deductions. But I also paid 8500 in fica and medicare, and paid 12,000 in medical insurace out of my wage benefit package. so I paid 30,000 for what I want as standard benefits out of 85000 in gross income so about 38%

 

When we talk about taxes on the federal level in overwhelmingly personal income taxes. When we talk federal tax policy it is overwhelmingly personal income taxes. FICA is your contribution to a defined benefit. What does FICA stand for? I don't and people in other states don't care about your state taxes deal with that with your fellow state citizen and your state government. I'm talking the federal government and the funding of that which affects us all equally. How about SS eliminated for those who choose fund their own retirement and you pay the tax to fund your guaranteed income? Isn't Obamacare wonderful. YOU pay $12K out of $85K for you health insurance? And again you are paying for a defined benefit with your FICA taxes, I don't particularly like the program I start collecting this month after paying in for 48 years and still paying into it, but it is a pension plan. It's not a general revenue or direct excise tax such as the gas tax where you are paying for road use. And how much are you willing to pay in taxes for this Medicare for all, which ain't gonna happen, but for discussions sake?

 

Yes, my wage benefit package was 12,000 for health insurance, my wage benefit package was closer to 100,000.
I could have spend 7000 for a 5-10-10 with benefits before the deductible. I also did not take the dental and vision and instead added it on to my pay. If my wife had insurance for me, I could have added the 12,000 to my wages.
My company provided my with my cost to them every year at my review.

And I don;s count my state income tax, I am happy paying the 5.5% to Mass.

And I understand what a defined benefit is and it is a pyramid scheme sold as a pension. That is why I want it eliminated.

 

You made money off the income tax system and getting credit for SS through FICA. And you have that guaranteed income when you retire through SS, what does your plan change? How about you could invest half those SS contributions in stock index funds in a personal account that would then be guaranteed income when you retire.
And again you paid $12,000 out of pocket for your health insurance premiums?

 

My social security would be $300 a month. If it's even there when I reach retirement age.

I did not pay $12,000 for medical insurance. I think you're confusing me with another poster.

 

Here's the plan. I take the $1,000 a month and invest it in a CD or high interest rate savings account? That's better then the $300 a month.

I'm poor. I would rather have a universal basic income or negative tax rate. It's more than I'm making now.

 

OK that's not out of pocket when you said the $85,000. Your employer pays a lot for you benefit what's your complaint. And I wish they have privatized SS 48 years ago but they didn't. You can lobby for them to do for you but the Democrats will stand in the way. Just having the government get rid of SS and FICA and instead directly taxing you to fund it and then give you some level of income when you retire is a distinction without merit, either one would be the pyramid scheme as you describe SS, it doesn't matter if the check comes from the SSA or US Treasury.

 

True the problem is that most people are not smart enough or disciplined to save for their retirement or their medical bills after retirement on their own. That is unfortunately a fact born out by data so if savings aren't mandatory those of us who do and accumulate wealth will have an even bigger bill to pay.

 

It would be nice if the focus was on making America a better place to live and earn a living live instead of Trumpvision.

 

Oh well why should I have to pay for their mistakes? My neighbor spent all his money on fancy boats, great vacations, a new car every two years, Ruth's Chris every Friday night while I saved first and curb my excesses. He has no money for retirement. I do. Why should I be taxed to send him money?

 

Did you actually poll it with Democratic voters? While I am still on the fence, I can think of a lot of yeses in my own precinct!

Because the only way to make money is to work for it, anything less it taking money from those who did work and give it to those who don't .

 

What about credit cards and banks who loan out money and collect on the interest?

And what about investments? People with a lot of money can make even more money without busting their tail.

And what about CEOs some of whom are millionaires in this "trickle-down" economy?

 

If one is foolish enough to use one without paying the balance off when billed they are stupid.

Which is a good reason to invest, versus spending every dime earned.

Don't worry about them, concentrate on raising yourself above the poverty level and don't expect someone else to do it for you.
