This morning, July 18, on Amanpour & Co. on PBS, music icon David Crosby spoke of his travails with drug addiction. He said his several trips to rehab didn’t work. The only thing that cured him was the horrible time he spent in a Texas prison. That seems to contradict the progressive narrative that drug addiction is a disease that should be treated, not punished.
Drug addiction should be ignored by the government and treated by doctors and families. Putting people into prison for drug addiction while Hillary walks the streets is just crazy.
People who have no problems making those filthy cartel vermin rich deserve prison, not hand holding and coddling. Anybody who has seen first hand what those vermin do to neighborhoods and entire countries has little sympathy for the whinings of Burb Brats and their obsessions with mindless self-indulgence. They care nothing about the consequences of their hobbies, so let them rot in in a cage somewhere or deport them. Dumping them in some shithole village in a corrupt narco state would be best.
Now for the statistics on rehab: Inpatient treatment costs $3,200 on average. 73% of addicts complete treatment and 21% remain sober after five years. Residential treatment costs $3,100 on average. 51% of addicts complete treatment and 21% remain sober after five years. Detox costs $2,200 on average. 33% of addicts complete treatment and 17% remain sober after five years. Outpatient drug-free treatments cost $1,200 on average. 43% of addicts complete treatment and 18% remain sober after five years. https://www.therecoveryvillage.com/treatment-program/related/drug-rehab-success-rates/ Success rates from 17 percent to 21 percent. Doesn’t sound very successful to me. If I had a bad ticker and went to a cardiologist who said he had a heart surgery success rate of 20 percent, I would run out of the room.
17 to 21 per cent is a great rate if you're among the successful. That means that cost is about 16000 to get to 100%, right? Not bad. But the government should not be funding it. Let their families or communities fund it.. Or let them stay addicted.
$16,000 to get 100%? I don't think so. You're assuming that if a person goes into rehab five times, they will be cured. I don't think that's how it works. Presumably, many people won't return to rehab, or will die before they can return, or will quit the habit on their own or through some other avenue.
Yes, I'm aware of the flaw in my logic. But there is also data I've seen that it does take 3 or 5 or so attempts for someone to get clean. In any case, government has no role in it. Government interference disrupts the natural selection process.
Most go into rehab in order to get reduced sentences or charges from a plea bargain; they don't intend to quit in the first place, they're just playing the system. It's a waste of public money that could go to fill genuine needs, instead of 'Get Out Of Jail Free' cards to obnoxious middle class Burb Brats. There's a reason most of the organized gangs set up their dealing near 'Rehab' centers, and are in business before the doors are open on any new ones.
Sometimes we all just want to say what we feel rather than spend time researching.. you know, like a conversation
