That is the mantra of every single dictator, authoritarian, and/or oppressor in the history of our planet. It initially is directed at the "weapons of mass domestic destruction", but, over time, the definition of what is a "weapons of mass domestic destruction" become much more broad.

So, what will you do to protect yourself and/or your family when "the elite" decides that the population is greater than our food supply and the herd needs to be "culled"?
Or maybe they just link "climate change" to over population and decide that exterminating non-essential people would reduce our carbon footprint?
Or maybe "the elite" just need the masses for cheap labor.

History has shown, time and time again, that humans are not only capable of doing things like this, they have in our recent history. I am all for finding and using methods in an attempt to insure that guns do not find their way into the hands of those mentally incompetent, but even that will be a challenge and will be abused. What determines the "mentally incompetent"? Domestic abuse? Violent tendencies? A session with a therapist? Or should we just include ALL lawbreaker into the "mentally incompetent category? Then maybe someone will group those that had the audacity to speed on the highway as unworthy of gun ownership.
