" Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) blocked two election security measures on Thursday, arguing Democrats are trying to give themselves a "political benefit." The move comes a day after former special counsel Robert Mueller warned about election meddling in 2020, saying Russia was laying the groundwork to interfere in the 2020 election "as we sit here." Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) had tried to get consent Thursday to pass a House bill that requires the use of paper ballots and includes funding for the Election Assistance Commission. It passed the House 225-184 with one Republican voting for it." https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/454742-mcconnell-blocks-two-election-security-bills Considering the state of affairs in our elections, this is almost the mentality of a traitor in my opinion...what say you?
For one using a title like 'Election Security' does not necessarily reflect what is in the bill. Like the 'Affordable Car Act' was hardly affordable and raised prices dramatically. The democrats partisan bill was for show and for the useful idiots to claim the same as you do.
Correct. Moscow Mitch has made it clear he is willing to cheat to get a far right judicial system. He is a disgrace and probably the worst and most damaging Senate leader in our history.
It's not they duty of the federal government to dictate to states how they should run their elections.
Possibly more than just federal elections. The Guarantee Clause (Article 4 Section 4) which says in part The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government..... would indicate that the federal government could dictate what constitutes a free and fair election in order to guarantee a "Republican Form of Government". If a paper ballot is viewed as less corruptable than voting machines or necessary as backup verification for instance, then it would, IMO, be in its purview to order it.
Well...that IS what being a traitor to your county IS, Isn't it? Mind, divided loyalties is not usually a crime unless you're the captain of an Aircraft Carriet or suchlike
Interesting question Pols don't tend to be all that powerful militarily and they actually have considerable leeway in the treason area, part of the job, sort of.
It seems there are many issues to be addressed and investigated, which is what this all was meant to do. We cannot fix a problem until we know what it is.
I think I would have to read the entire bill to know if it makes sense or not. Paper ballots only would suit me fine, but I bet there are lots of folks of both persuasions that would have a problem with that. Why not simply voter ID?
Even then. Each state and each county chooses what the ballot will look like, how the vote will be cast, machine, punch card, fill in the box etc. eligibility and so forth. There isn't a federal ballot.
Only 5 states as of 2018 did not have a paper trail and I bet some of those are off the list now. Louisiana: The state is planning to put out a request for proposals to set up a new, more up-to-date system, Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler tells Axios. “If the piece of paper gives them that assurance” that an election can’t be hacked, Schedler said, “I’m all for it.” Schedler said any replacement would be due to the age of the system, not because of any concern there might be a breach. Georgia: There are three proposals circulating in the general assembly that would back using machines with paper trails, a state official tells Axios, but it's not clear that any of them will pass this year. The governor’s budget proposal doesn’t include the funding for such an initiative, per the Atlanta Journal Constitution. South Carolina: State election officials asked the state legislature to provide $20 million to replace the state’s voting system to provide a paper trail of the vote, per their budget request. The House is going to discuss the budgeting next week, but does not have hard numbers yet on whether that request can be met. New Jersey: Deputy Majority Leader Reed Gusciora told Axios he plans to introduce a bill in the state assembly to back an election system that produces a paper trail of votes. A similar measure passed the legislature last year, but it was never funded. Delaware: The Department of Elections this week received seven proposals for voting machine equipment that would leave a voter-verified paper trail of votes, the state election commissioner, Elaine Manlove, told Axios. Manlove said her team wants to make an offer this year, although the machines aren't expected to be in use until 2020. https://www.axios.com/five-states-w...tes-32801015-4ba1-4b41-80ca-ebab2cdda087.html
Mitch McConnell doesn't represent the people of KY, or the people of the U.S. McConnell represents the NRA & the extremist right corporate lobbyists. McConnell is the epitome of the corrupt politician. I only hope the voters of KY will wake up to reality, & see that McConnell is NOT working for their best interest, or that of the nation, & retire him from public office.
