The poem was added to the base of "Lady Liberty" in the early 20th Century. Much like obtaining a drivers license in all of the 50 Nifty, immigration is a privilege, NOT a right. Also, most of those who come to the U.S. of A. from Central America are migrants, NOT immigrants. Immigration is a legal process and most who come from Central America are not intending to go the legal route.

Which other countries would take them and "offer [them] a much better deal"?

And now to up the ante, which other countries -which they could walk or drive to- would take them and "offer [them] a much better deal"?

I guess this mother was lucky that she wasn't told to go back where she came from.

And they came legally, after being given checks for health and other reasons.

To think he almost beat the Democrat who failed to prevent the violence in Charlottesville two years ago (and then lied about it).

    What an election 2013 was...

...little wonder Libertarian Robert Sarvis received the most votes for a third-party candidate in 50 years.

Absolutely correct! When that poem was written, we weren't being inundated with swarms of unskilled peasants from Mexico and Central America. We WERE being inundated with Germans, Irish, Italians, Scottish, English, French, Greeks, Swedish, Norwegians... (shall I go on...?)...
But in a larger sense -- a POEM, written ONE HUNDRED THIRTY-SIX YEARS AGO, isn't necessarily reflective of the situation we are slammed with TODAY!

In 1883, when Emma Lazarus wrote her poem, the U. S. had a population of approximately 52,000,000.
In 2019, the population of the U. S. is just over 330,000,000.

Who among us with any common sense at all adovcates the importation of millions more uneducated, penniless peasants from what really ARE "shithole" countries?! The only purpose they can serve is to add to the number of parasties on welfare, and thus, VOTE FOR DEMOCRATS, who always are willing to trade welfare for votes!

Once again the race baiting Left injects racial division where there is none, apparently in ignorance of the fact that their are Black Europeans, or have you written them out of existence in a flash of bigoted rage?

Hispanics are part of your rainbow coalition and do they not include inhabitants of Portugal and Spain?

    Think! then post.

agreed, i do like the seasoning in your posts

the white immigrants did not bite the hand that fed them, because they came from more civilised first world countries.

some would say superior, mostly the germans, english, and other northern europeans.

Really, government documents were routinely printed in Italian and German?

The U.S. Government Turned Away Thousands of Jewish Refugees, Fearing That They Were Nazi Spies
In a long tradition of “persecuting the refugee,” the State Department and FDR claimed that Jewish immigrants could threaten national security
World War II prompted the largest displacement of human beings the world has ever seen—although today's refugee crisis is starting to approach its unprecedented scale. But even with millions of European Jews displaced from their homes, the United States had a poor track record offering asylum. Most notoriously, in June 1939, the German ocean liner St. Louis and its 937 passengers, almost all Jewish, were turned away from the port of Miami, forcing the ship to return to Europe; more than a quarter died in the Holocaust.

Which is impossible since less than half of eligible voters do not vote. Now what makes you think that illegals are going to expose themselves voting?

Immigrant-a person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country.
Migrant-a person who moves from one place to another, especially in order to find work or better living conditions.

There is a lot of evidence. Including how Democrats use illegals as a measure of population to gain more representatives:

Mass immigration has had a significant effect on American electoral politics. Despite the fact that it is a crime for aliens to vote in federal elections, noncitizens and illegal aliens are counted when apportioning congressional districts. 1 This means that areas with large numbers of illegal alien residents gain additional representatives in Congress.

    also:

In 2014, a study released by a team of professors from Old Dominion University and George Mason University estimated that approximately 6.4 percent of noncitizens voted In the 2008 presidential election. They also surmised that 2.2 percent voted in the 2010 midterm election.20 In addition, the study estimated that 80 percent of noncitizens who appeared to have voted cast their ballots in favor of one party. Noncitizens are believed to have voted in these elections in numbers great enough to have affected the outcome.

    https://www.fairus.org/issue/societal-impact/noncitizens-voting-violations-and-us-elections

If illegals voting didn't benefit Democrats, they would have been voting to stop it a long time ago.

Illegals will have a huge impact on the 2020 election as they did on the 2018 mid terms. Especially in regards to just the popular vote.

Sorry it’s not AWESOME that a parent shows up at school. It’s expected. It’s mandatory. If you think that’s special, doing your JOB, your expectations are quite low. Or is it only low because of the ethnicity of the parent? Sounds like you’re surprised a Hispanic person would give a crap:)

Considering I see so many parents who can’t speak English at my kids elementary school, its only the sign of the times.

Aaaaw. Poor thing. I’m supposed to cover my ears to the conversation of someone standing right next to me? Maybe I should ignore how many people don’t bring in school supplies and rely on those like me to provide them? That’s why we have to put them all into piles and share them. Resources spread thin from too many kids and not enough tax payers. :)

Sorry, but immigration is not a state issue.

When that open was added to the Statue of Liberty, it was easy to immigrate to the United States.

Today, the US is one of the most difficult countries in the world to legally immigrate to. It takes years, and usually involves an attorney.

It just puts the hypocrisy of the left on full display. The Communist party (another left wing radical outfit) has been in the US since the 30's, yet somehow they could actually affect an election and get Trump elected? What a pile of crap this Russian nonsense is. The Russians actually conspired with the DNC and they are doing everything they can to lie about it and try and keep the heat on Trump. What a loathsome bunch of people these Democratic leaders are. Party > Country. Half of them should be in jail. The country would be much better off.

This is false and exactly the kind of misinformation that derides our country. If you follow the path legally it takes some time but in no way is it all that difficult. Unless you are a criminal or someone lying about their past and the US finds out about it. I have known plenty of people who were born outside the US and are citizens today, in less than 5 years.

In some cases, joining the military will get you automatic US citizenship. Ask the Philippines.

    True.

Much like the 2nd Amendment was referring only to Muskets.

Both definitions "broadened over time" to "include evolving circumstances".
