I think you are wrong about lefties being unprepared. They would like you to believe so.Just look at history.Whenever they pulled off revolutionary change, people taught they were just crazy and harmless bunch incapable of changing the system.Be prepared.Always.

Always laugh at the prepers who buy gold - as if they can eat it or any one else can, or that making jewelry and semiconductor parts is going to be big business after the apocalypse ...

There are few fanatical Ocasio Cortes supporters on this forum. They should be classified as preppers. To them, her word is gospel.According to her we all have 12 or so years left unless we do what she tells us to do.

I'd definetly keep some stuff around if I was in a more extreme event zone - We only get the occasional tornado and maybe 1 to 3 days w/ out power at most.

How many prepers have died never having enjoyed life because they spent all their money on stock-piling crap for
something they never live to see?

I've met some amazing people and learned some incredible stuff by making emergency preparations.

Stockpiling a pile of something is not preparations.

Yeah but they have to come and get it, that might be a problem for them. When you think about it you don't really need to prep if you have guns and lotsa ammo. Here in Massachusetts 9 out of 10 households vote Dem, I'd knock on their doors first.

My wife and I have pretty solid preppier mentality, with her having inherited a touch of OCD from her dad. I’ll go through a short list of how we roll and
    Instilled it in our kids.

1, Pay your damn bills! I mean the day the utility bill hits the mailbox, cut the check and get it back in the mail the same day. That gives you two months time before you have to worry about it being cut off for non payment. You are going to pay it sooner or later, better to pay it at the first opportunity.

2, 6 moths wages in the savings account at a bare minimum.

3 at least $1000 in small bills secured at home.
4, food! All you can reasonably store.

5, generator with enough fuel to keep fridge and freezer cold and frozen until you consume the contents.
6, keep 200 miles worth of fuel in your tank at all times. That’s usually a half tank. I’ve had to evacuate due to wild fires with 15 minutes warning, fire took out the power to the whole town which means you aren’t going to a gas station.
7, keep your laundry pile small, again evacuating due to fire, nice to not have to worry about doing laundry on your first day of evacuation.
8, keep important papers, birth certificates, insurance policies, serial numbers, photos of the kids centrally located so you can grab and go.
9, keep firearms clean and serviceable with a healthy stock of ammo for each.
10, a serious first aid kit with a good supply of any prescription medication.
11, then the typical- fresh batteries in the smoke alarms, flashlights with extra batteries, fire extinguishers, etc.

Natural disasters are always on the horizon but if you want so see the peaceful Veneer of society get torn off in a hurry, let the EBT system get hacked or crash.

I think there are threee positions on preparing for natural or man made disasters.

    1. The reasonable, proportionate prepper. Has enough water for a few weeks, food for the family, fuel, matches, lifestraws, a generator, etc. A firearm if legal where they live.

Just your average, responsible homeowner. Especially in disaster prone areas. Doesn't take it too far, has enough to outlast most in a worse case scenario.

    2. The indifferent freeloader. Has practically nothing. McDonalds is open 24/7 these days, why prep?

If a serious disaster happens they basically go to their roof and wait for the government.

    3. The steroid preppers. Has 150,000 rounds of 22LR. 75 cubic metres of water. Took out a second mortgage to buy limited edition MRE's aged for 30 years in Afghani oak.

Just be reasonable. Think of what you'll actually need.

Cash around the house is useful, depending on the severity of the disaster canned food will go through the roof in value.

In Australia our prime disaster risks are bushfire and cyclones. Prepping is tailored accordingly.

Liberal city folk....prepping? :roflol: Their idea of prepping is Whole Foods having a backup generator and Waitr. They have no earthy idea of the food supply chain. A couple of well placed EMPs and we'd have mass extinction....of liberals.

Not a bad thought and certainly reasonable.

And then there is the worry about what you will need that you don't know about yet.

If its important enough to prepare, you should also do some research.

Books, govt pamplets, etc that you have actually read, etc.

Yes those seniors and children will be running in circles over it and so will everyone that keeps their money in a bank. A thousand bucks is chicken feed when the SHTF because basic necessities will be in great demand and money will be worthless..
