Currently Maine has the distinction of having over 20%, one fifth of it's citizens over the age of 65 and it is creating a huge problem. There is an insufficient number of people willing to take care of the senior citizens who require daily care and a dwindling number of senior care facilities in the state. Those who are fortunate enough to have children living close are able in some cases to rely on them, frequently putting a strain on their marriages and lifestyle.Within a very few years the following states will also cross the over 20% threshold of over 65 year olds Vermont,New Hampshire,Delaware,West Virginia,Wisconsin,Montana and Pennsylvania and soon thereafter many more. With fewer immigrants entering our country who have traditionally been the low paid workers in our nations homes for seniors, we are facing a rapidly expanding problem which our congress thus far has failed to confront. The number of over 65 is expected to double over the next 40 years.

Supply and demand will take care of it. No need to artificially sway that by opening the borders to cheap labor. The left wants higher wages for the poor, let the market take care of it. Senior care facilities and their employees will be raking in the dough. "cha-ching"!!

Does the concept of LEGAL immigration for vetted aliens who possess in-demand skills ring a bell?

Did i mention that they must come LEGALLY?

Actually, considering that many progressives decry the jobs that are going to be lost to automation, senior-care may be just the ticket to replace those jobs. No immigration needed. The market will take care of it just fine without any outside influence.

Well that ain't gonna happen much if we demand they arrive with private health insurance in place as well as a good credit rating

    Nope.

"The fact is that in the not-to-distant future, America will face a serious demographic challenge. Not too many people – as President Trump would have us believe – but too few."
    https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/ali...-they-are-vital-to-our-success-and-prosperity

But why let facts get in the way of your misinformed view, right?

Many seniors are either on Medicare or Medicaid or in some cases both, not having a steady supply of low cost workers who have traditionally staffed these type jobs will be catastrophic as the numbers of over 65 climb nationally.

We don't demand that and we don't appreciate your childish strawmen either, although they are mildly amusing.

The OP's point is there are plenty of jobs waiting for them here, they're in high demand. Their employers will provide them with private health insurance. Duh

PS the libs' pathetic attempts to conflate legal and illegal immigration - priceless.

So you are using an opinion piece from the internet to back up your opinion? You are claiming an opinion piece is "fact"? HAHA!

"Noorani has led the Forum through a transition process to broaden its focus on unlikely allies and creative alliance building toward a better for future for immigrants and America."

Sorry, but your source obviously has a bias for immigrants, and his opinions are certainly going to be biased in that direction. So, again, citing an opinion piece as fact is an utter fail.

THE VAST majority of Americans do not have great health insurance and those over 65 today cannot come close to affording the costs of most nursing homes.Medicare patients ae very limited in the number of covered days they are allowed to stay in one, following a hospitalization.

I live in Maine. My parents took care of their parents, and I will take care of mine. It’s amazing what can be accomplished when the family unit hasn’t been destroyed.

And I took care of my mother. It don't get any better than that. It's hard now because kids live states away from their parents but you can do anything you want to. When I was a kid it seemed every home had a grandparent living with the family. But we are now killing babies as they are born so are the elderly next?

Maine's current visiting caregivers earn $11.87 an hour, which is less than a lot of the states restaurant workers earn, they cannot hire nearly enough caregivers.

Since no one wants open borders, even though Trump wants European immigrants, the asylum portals are legal opportunities, so the problems will resolve themselves.

I agree, but sadly there are times when that is just not possible. I took care of my mom for 19 years, until it reached a point where there was no physical way I could continue to do it on my own.

Frequently when a failing parent lives fairly close to what can be one of many siblings, the task falls on that one to look after mom or dad or both.It often leads to bad feelings and resentment among the remaining family.

Yes, you need to get educated on the subject. When a baby is born, alive, in good health, and then left to die what do you call it? When a baby is within 4 weeks of being born and is killed in the womb what do you call it? Yes, killing babies is what the anti abortion crowd spouts. At least we are honest about it. Tell us your name for it and for God's sake please don't say 'choice'.

Duh, it's called murder and there is a law against it.

An abortion. It is done at that point in time due to complications involving the life/health of woman and/or fetus.

Sometimes it's called "saving a woman's life"....which I know isn't important to some but to the woman it really is important.

No, they are not....a fetus is aborted, not a baby.

It's an abortion based on the right women have to their own bodies, a right YOU enjoy as should EVERYONE.
