I finally experienced white privelege

In Chicago in many areas a contractor cannot get a contract with the city unless that contractor is minority owned.
That’s why many contractors here make their wives formal owners.
These laws just breed corruption and disregard for the rules.

Yes. This is the only example I have seen of white privilege, too. For me, it happened in a small Cuban store in Miami. The little Cuban man at the door was checking every person's receipt very carefully, but when I walked up, he waved me through. Same thing happens at Walmart, but then I only buy a few items at a time. White people with whole shopping carts' full get stopped.

I've only been embarrassed to be white twice in my life, and both times relate to singers. The first time was when I heard Frank Sinatra singing "Ol' Man River" at the end of Till the Clouds Roll By; the second time was when I heard Pat Boone singing Little Richard's "Tutti Frutti". On behalf of white people everywhere, I apologize to all black people for both of those incidents. They were wrong and I'm sorry.

 

Well what about discrimination? None of you consider that a problem? I searched on this issue of minority owned businesses, and came upon this article.

The only reason for these sorts of rules in the first place is because of racism, sexism, and a disregard for fairness and decency for decades and centuries.

p.s. There is a suggestion of an "Aryan man" trait that may or may not count as a privilege, but of course it doesn't extend to females: facial hair. No pure-blooded African, Asian, Polynesian, or AmerIndian can grow a beard, but all of the European males and all of the Aryan descended males of the middle east, north Africa, and northern India can. Africans, eastern Asians, and Hispanics who can grow beards have some Aryan ancestry. (Think Mongolian v. mainline Chinese.)

The flaw or hole in this theory is Australian Aborigines, who have thicker beards than even middle easterners but have zero Aryan ancestry and may even predate Aryans in terms of human ethnic separation.

 

So according to you if a minority or female person wants to start a business and they don't have or cannot obtain the capital and resources to fund that business it's because of racism and sexcism? How about they have no business opening a business if they don't have the startup capital. Are you sure it's racism and sexcism that's preventing minorities and females from obtaining grants and loans or could it be very poor business plans? Wanting to start your own business is great, but you better have a solid business plan with startup costs, overhead costs, revenue requirements, time tables, tax and regulation agendas, profit margins, collateral and most important a good or service that is needed.

What that means is that only about one-third of total businesses will succeed during the first two years. The SBA also tells you that about 50% of businesses fail during the first year in business.

Why are you so sure racism and sexism don't exist in the business world (or every other world)?

When the proof is everywhere, now, (right here on this forum every day), and throughout history?

There are comments here all the time that wreak of blatant racism and sexism, and yet people here will turn around and say it doesn't exist. Accept when it's supposedly pointed at them.

I have asked for stories of discrimination for years now from trump supporters/conservatives who cry about it, and they either have no story to tell, or they have a story like the one presented here, which is a real tearjerker.

 

I was more depicting the difficulty of obtaining a new business loan or grant as it pertains to starting a business. Gender or race has almost no factor in the success of a new business. Maybe if a woman wanted to start a construction company or a man wanted to start a babysitting company or a Norwegian wanted to start a Mexican restaurant the chances of succes might not be equal. These examples may be met with a little bias from customers.

I no more support it than a racist attack on blacks

it's simple putting down whites cause they are white

yes, racists whites treat whites better than blacks

yes, racist blacks treat blacks better than whites

the majority of whites and blacks treat each other as they would anyone else

A lot of us are tired of hearing and talking about racism. (I know, I know, I'm a "racist" for saying that right?).

This thread was like a breath of fresh air, at first, it was humorous, poking fun at yet another ridiculously overplayed topic that many people are sick of hearing about.

I can hear you now, "well just stop being racists and own your white guilt! Check check your privilege, repent and make reparative efforts and you wouldn't have to hear it all the time!"

See the problem with that is there are many of us that don't own those issues. And we're not gonna be pressured into making false confessions.

And sometimes, it seems like all we can to do about it is just laugh. It truly does get off the hook ridiculous, and everyone knows this. It's not exactly a covert mission.

Well. that's nothing compared to the KKK redneck scum I ran into in the rural areas. I lived among rednecks for two decades and I will never live around people like that again.

It may be that people do a double take when she is by herself as well. Nigerian women can be drop dead gorgeous. Just sayin that not every thing in the world is nefarious.

Maybe many of them have terrible business plans? If someone can’t get funding from any investors or a loan from any bank, I really don’t think it’s because EVERYONE is racist. It’s probably due to obvious factors like not being qualified or convincing enough. You think plenty of white people don’t get denied loans?

And besides all the no-bid gov contracts that go straight to minority owned businesses, I work at a place where we use this practice for community outreach. It’s a nice program but at the core, it’s just soft racism.

The culture is likely the reason they failed, not because "racism".
