https://www.uawire.org/u-s-carries-out-missile-strikes-on-syria-without-informing-russia What of those S400s that the vatniks delivered to Syria to shoot down incoming missiles and jets?....What, not working? Or just for show? And not just US, but Israeli strikes too. I thought Putler vowed no missiles would land in Syria?
Khan Sheikhoun: Syria rebels pull out of key town after five years Syrian opposition forces have withdrawn from the strategic town of Khan Sheikhoun, deep in the last rebel-held province. Government forces, backed by Russia, closed in on the town in recent weeks, five years after rebels took over. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-49404741
Syrian territory is big. And S-300 (S-400 might cover russian airbase in Khmeimim) doesn't cover all of it. Moreover they don't protect those who are named as terrorists. And the US attacked these guys for some reason. I wouldn't believe in weakness of the USA if North Korea manages to attack a distant island not covered by serious SAMs.
Don't mean to picking on Russia, really, but they kind of deserve it. Either their equipment is junk, or it is compromised, or they sell junk to foreign countries and keep any worthwhile technology to themselves. It is not one thing or another that leads me to say this, but it is a bunch of things, including as it relates to the topic of this thread: https://www.almasdarnews.com/articl...ition-of-irans-new-air-defense-system-report/ Syria allegedly considering acquisition of Iran’s new air defense system: report
Russia consistently brags about military prowess and equipment they obviously do not have. It is expected to maintain the superpower moniker that Putin requires. Most are quite aware and just ignore it because it is the easiest and simple choice.
In the 1990s, in one of the rare moments before the Gore-Chemorydin pact closed this window, Iran had the opportunity to purchase Russian systems. We acquired a couple of squadrons of Mig29 aircraft but our air force officials found the Mig29 (at least the export version) of inferior quality to even Iran's antiquated American leftovers suffering from lack of spare parts. So we told the Russians we didn't need any more of the Migs. We acquired 3 Kilo-class subs from them, and while the Kilo is a capable sub, it had major issues. That was one of the reasons Iran opted to overhaul the Kilo domestically and refused offers by Russia to overhaul it for us, even though the process took much longer time than it would otherwise. Our experience with the Bushehr nuclear reactor, which was a long delayed project that finally became operational something like 10+ years after it was supposed to, wasn't any better. And the S-300, which the Russians contracted to sell to Iran, then reneged on their contract under Israeli pressure, only to force it on Iran when we really didn't want it anymore (we had an arbitration and wanted damages; the Russians insisted that specific performance was the proper remedy) was another such example. My own theory is that the Russian equipment must be much better than they sell outside, but the export version of their equipment is really awful. Which then makes buying Russian equipment not all that enticing, despite the Russian arms industry needing those sales to have the funds to invest and develop capable equipment. On top of that, another thing that makes Russia very unreliable is that while its natural export markets would be to countries which the US doesn't want to sell to, which basically means states that oppose Israel, for whatever reason Putin seems to like meeting with Netanyahu and the Israelis more than he likes meeting with his own wife! Who is going to ever trust the Russians when they see Netanyahu act more chummy with Putin than he would with anyone else outside of Trump! (And now days, Netanyahu is secretly brooding over some of Trump's latest moves...)
Russians themselves don’t trust their own quality. Why do you think most of them want their own foreign cars, appliances, clothing and pretty much everything else? It’s the richest country in terms of natural resources and at the same time the nation whose population has arms that are growing out of their anal openings instead of shoulders. Russia builds own trains, yet their fastest trains are foreign-built. They build aircraft, yet most of it goes to shithole countries as no one else with brains would buy their products. Their own airlines rely on a very large quantity of foreign aircraft. Now, considering all of these problems, what makes you think their weapons production is better than anything else they build? That’s why Pootins rumble about newest Russian weapons wasn’t even taken seriously in the west. Consider this - they are about to refresh their largest stockpile of ICBMs with ICBMs that use liquid propellant - which means they can’t hold fuel until they are about to take off. Yes - in hypothetical US-Russia nuclear war the US would be nuking russia while their soldiers are still attempting to fuel their ICBMs, which can take hours. Buy more Russian weapons, Iran! Please! Russia will give you a nice discount!
I, frankly, don't care so much whether Russian equipment is good or bad. The worse it is, the better for Iran. But what I care about is Russia stopping its duplicitous behavior, talking from both sides of its mouth, and hosting Netanyahu and sitting through his comments about Iran without so much as a whimper of protest. That upsets me more than the anything else. Otherwise, but for the current climate where Iran is under a UN arms embargo which prohibits purchase and sale of weapons from and to Iran, we have a few things to sell in the arms market which would be competing with what the Russians have to sell.
It's range is rather limited against missiles. Maybe you should look things up. Just like SA oil complex got destroyed by a bunch of drones. Them peeps the American equipment to stop them. "apparently it's all crap"
That’s why nobody in Eastern Europe likes Russia - it’s double-headed eagle represents the fact that Russia is a double-faced nation. They honor their commitments only when it suits them. By the way, I remember reading somewhere that Iran/Persia always treated Russia as its enemy. Current “friendly” state seem to be temporary to me.
