That the United States far exceeds the number of firearms and firearm fatalities per capita among advanced nations elicits an emotional response from many, regardless of whether they feel something can and should or cannot and should not be done about it.

Perhaps, first acknowledging the empirical reality regarding disparities among states is a more promising way of determining what is effective and what isn't.

    1. Alaska - Firearm deaths per 100,000 people: 23.0 per 100,000
    2. Alabama - Firearm deaths per 100,000 people: 21.4 per 100,000

    3. Louisiana - Firearm deaths per 100,000 people: 21.2 per 100,000

    4. Mississippi - Firearm deaths per 100,000 people: 19.8 per 100,000

    5. Oklahoma - Firearm deaths per 100,000 people: 19.6 per 100,000

    6. Montana - Firearm deaths per 100,000 people: 19.0 per 100,000

    7. Missouri - Firearm deaths per 100,000 people: 18.8 per 100,000

    8. New Mexico - Firearm deaths per 100,000 people: 18.2 per 100,000

    9. Arkansas - Firearm deaths per 100,000 people: 17.7 per 100,000

    10. South Carolina - Firearm deaths per 100,000 people: 17.7 per 100,000

... and the states with the least:

    50. Massachusetts - Firearm deaths per 100,000 people: 3.4 per 100,000

    49. Rhode Island - Firearm deaths per 100,000 people: 4.0 per 100,000

    48. New York - Firearm deaths per 100,000 people: 4.4 per 100,000

    47. Hawaii - Firearm deaths per 100,000 people: 4.5 per 100,000

    46. Connecticut - Firearm deaths per 100,000 people: 4.6 per 100,000

    45. New Jersey - Firearm deaths per 100,000 people: 5.5 per 100,000

    44. Minnesota - Firearm deaths per 100,000 people: 7.6 per 100,000

    43. California - Firearm deaths per 100,000 people: 7.9 per 100,000

    42. Maine - Firearm deaths per 100,000 people: 8.2 per 100,000

    41. Washington - Firearm deaths per 100,000 people: 9.0 per 100,000

    https://247wallst.com/special-report/2018/02/20/states-with-the-most-gun-violence-2/

An objective analysis of the starkly disparate data can confirm the approaches that are demonstrably more effective than others.

Or are the denizens of some state inherently more disposed to kill one another than are others?

Can help noticing the decided red-blue state disparity in gun deaths. Ignorance (and gun laws) has consequences.

There are only about 11,000 firearms homicides per year. The rest are accidents and suicides.

ONLY 11,000 gun homicides? A mere nothing, inconsequential, to be disregarded entirely. No effort should be expended on such a minor problem.

    80% are gang related.

Yes it's too many but can't do much about it.

Many. Firearm permissiveness results in self-inflicted fatalities and accidental killings as well as homicides.

The significant reality to note is the vast disparity among states. When advanced nations indict the US for the horrific statistics concerning firearm carnage, it is important to note that the empirically-validated indictment should not be applied to the whole nation indiscriminately.

Are these the big "gang" states, then?

    1. Alaska - Firearm deaths per 100,000 people: 23.0 per 100,000
    2. Alabama - Firearm deaths per 100,000 people: 21.4 per 100,000

They are however states with high suicide rates.

I assume you are trying to make a case against guns because if gun related crime.
To do that you need gun violence statistics not gun death statistics.

According to the FBI 80% of violent gun crime is gang related and furthermore most gang related gun violence is done with illegally acquiring guns, almost exclusively hand guns.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_homicide_rate.

At the risk of being called racist by leftists who hate facts the homicide rate by state also tracks pretty well in fact very well with the number of homicides by state.

Alaska is in a class by themselves. I've been there many times. Alaska is a state populated by certifiable lunatics.

I couldn't care less about gang bangers shooting one another. I do care about my ability to walk in a mall or market safely. I also care kids are going to school with bullet proof vests. Gun nuts couldn't care less about me, my family, or innocent school kids. They wanna be Rambo. Screw the rest of us.

How many are in the hands of Chicago gangsters and how will you remove them? Will you go door to door and knock at their residences? "Sir, turn over your firearms. It's the law". Door slams in your face. You knock again and the door is opened and a pistol barrel is placed against your chest. What do you do? Throw the cuffs on him immediately? Pull your own pistol and shoot him?

Edit: Start with them. Let's see how that goes, first.

Meanwhile in the idealistic nation of Sweden
    where they know "gun control",
it's Nordic Noir. Girl With The Dragon Tattoo culture.

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/ap-rockys-swedish-lawyer-shot-163451656.html

A$AP Rocky's Swedish lawyer was shot in the head and
the shooting suspect is still at large

Police have arrested a woman, who is a former lawyer that had previously been banned from contacting Lilja, according to Expressen. The shooting suspect has been identified as a man, and he is still at large.

How did "they" get a gun in Sweden, and to commit a crime with a gun!
    Sweden Needs More Gun Laws.
