    Why ask Trump?

Marchers ask Trump to ‘liberate’ Hong Kong, as clashes erupt

HONG KONG (AP) — Thousands of demonstrators in Hong Kong urged President Donald Trump to “liberate” the semiautonomous Chinese territory during a peaceful march to the U.S. Consulate on Sunday, but violence broke out later in the business and retail district as police fired tear gas after protesters vandalized subway stations, set fires and blocked traffic.

Demonstrators flooded a park in central Hong Kong, chanting “Resist Beijing, Liberate Hong Kong” and “Stand with Hong Kong, fight for freedom.” Many of them, clad in black shirts and wearing masks, waved American flags and carried posters that read “President Trump, please liberate Hong Kong” as they marched to the U.S. Consulate nearby.

Just curious, but shouldn't they be waving the Union Jack and asking the UK to come liberate them?

Truth is, they're totally on their own. Nobody is going to intervene militarily.

I'm quite surprised that China has been so lenient and patient with them.

Hong Hongers need to make it abundantly clear that there are red lines they will rise up in active revolution against if violated, no matter if their chances in any war are slim to none.

Make it clear that they would rather force the PRC to go door to door in HK and kill every man, woman and child than allow them to take over.

Make it so any incursions into HK will precipitate a global war. Import some crying Palestinians or something.

China can march 5 divisions into Hong Kong and no country is going to send military intervention to help.

Contrary to exaggerated reports of her death by cynical cowards and dumbed down dimwits, America is still the standard of liberty.

The revolutionaries in Hong Kong know it is life, itself, at stake here—life as a free being or a CPC slave.

Anyone left in America still idealistic enough to support Liberty vs tyranny? Obviously, not you, but anyone? Well, there’s a least 12.

And then there are the bravest of the brave, the best and brightest, the revolutionaries of Hong Kong.

I would propose importing a whole heck of a lot of Palestinians then :juggle:

Brilliant move for a number of reasons:

    1. Solves the Israel-Palestine crisis if the Palestinians move to Hong Kong.

    2. China will need to send these Muslims to their "reeducation camps", and they'll have to gear up their methods as a result. This will create outrage.

    3. The BDS people will start to boycott China, 45.4% of UN resolutions denouncing a nation will be directed towards them for 70 years, half the Middle East will declare war on them, etc.

    4. Well, they need rockets from somewhere if the PRC invades.

They'll probably sanction the **** out of them for that, enough of a deterrent to stop China invading in the first place.

    This is called multilateral thinking.

    @Moi621 back me up mate.

Idealistic enough to put their own boots on Hong Kong ground and shoulder arms to support liberty in Hong Kong? Risk life and limb with the intense courage of their convictions?

Do the recruiters in the USA have a big rush on their hands?

Because words don't do anything, as in Syria.

China needs a good revolution. Social credit scores, reeducation camps, organ harvesting, no religious freedom, abhorrent working conditions, single party state. What a shithole.

19 million Chinese reach military age annually. The potential manpower available for active service is 621 million. Ranked 3rd in military aircraft, 2nd in land forces and armor. Their navy is their weakest link, quickly being built up, 2 carriers now.

Present military active manpower is 2.1 million, with an additional 500,000 reserves.

The government has all the guns. It's a powerful shithole.

US military strength is active manpower 1.3 million, with an additional 860,000 reserves.

Civilians have guns to resist a US government gone awry like that.

To what end? Hong Kong can't win against the PRC. That would just be asking for mass slaughter, followed by mass repression.

My question isn't why they would want liberty, but why are they not looking at the UK, the former colonial power and the nation that actually established the freedom that Hong Kong enjoyed?

    Why Trump ?

Why didn't they ask the Queen if England since it's the Chi-Coms who are violating the conditions of the treaties between the UK and the Chinese Communist.

They're SOL. Trump is pro-totalitarianism and pals around with dictators while shunning democratically elected leaders from free countries.

Perhaps because we have the military capability to back up our threats and promises.

Shame Putin decapitated the free world in 2016. Communism is winning now.

I think there's more to the story on what is taking place in Hong Kong.

Also the U.S. Navy we have today is what Obama did to the U.S. Navy.
It's Obama Navy until Trump and Congress repairs the damage inflicted upon the U.S.Navy by Obama and the Democrats in Congress.

Today's Navy isn't the Navy of 2008. It will take ten or twenty years to repair the damage Obama and the Democrats inflicted upon the U.S. Navy.

Interesting! So what do you think Trump should do to support Hong Kong...

or what would Obama have done?

I guess because the US is stronger.
I don’t understand why they are asking the US for help. There is nothing we can do to China in China - I mean you can break off that city, but Chinese will just keep sending their soldiers, wave after wave. Their numeric superiority is just too great.

Hong Kong would have a chance if China was run by an equivalent of Gorbachev. Then Hong Kong would have broken off like Baltic states broke off from USSR - relatively peacefully. But China is not being run by a populist.

The protesters who are calling for the US are just ensuring that they will be tortured to death by Chinese secret services after the whole thing settles down. Chinese will suspect them to be American spies.

The UK has a much greater interest in Hong Kong than the US does.

The US is stronger than the UK, but the US has zero interest in engaging in a military conflict with China for Hong Kong, when the people were in the streets cheering for the PRC back when Britain turned it over.

What did they think was going to happen?

However, insofar as the current situation in Hong Kong gives the Trump administration the excuse to continue the economic disengagement from China, so much the better. If this gives us a reason to raise tariffs higher, or impose sanctions, I think that could be a good opportunity, particularly considering the number of China sycophants at the highest levels of government and media in the US.

The US is not going to liberate them. They'll just have to deal with loss of freedom and being subject to mainland Chinese courts that often do not respect civil liberties.

The majority in Hong Kong are happy being part of China, but they want some degree of autonomous government for their area. They have been under Western-style political culture for more than 100 years and do not want to go back to the authoritarian style political rule of China.
If you read about the types of things that go on in the Chinese mainland, you can see why.

The two have very little to do with each other. Trump wants to alter the trade engagement with China but is not going to push the Hong Kong issue.

Those in UK and Hong Kong should have known what they were ultimately getting into when Hong Kong was handed over to Chinese political sovereignty. At the time, the UK knew China was going to demand Hong Kong back and likely be willing to use military force to get it, and they did not feel up to waging a war with such a large country as China, and even if they had it would have remained a perpetual point of conflict and China's intentions would likely not have just gone away, so it would have required continuous military defense, which simply would not have been practical. The Chinese national mind sees Hong Kong as theirs.

China's government wants complete seemless political/social unity in their country, and seems to have an insatiable desire for ever more social control, since the Party is paranoid about the possibility of losing their political power.

Why Hong Kong is asking for American help? We have the Statue of Liberty. We were the shot heard around the world. We are the fountainhead of freedom. America is the birthplace of Individual Rights. America is the moral ideal. America is the first nation to limit the power of government, but not the rights of its people. America is the land of the free...but apparently no longer the brave and brightest.
