Trump is watching his popularity fall as his trade war threatens the economy.
His next options for tariffs will make it obvious to consumers that China is not paying for the tariffs as they will by necessity hit consumer products.
My bet is that soon he will strike some watered down deal like NAFTA 2.0 where china drops some tariffs and agree to buy more pork and soybeans. Things they need to buy anyway.
    Your thoughts?

    Tariffs aren't about our economy.

Actually.... it is not his trade war.... it looks to me like China, Russia, Iran, Soros and their allies in all nations
want to devalue the USA petrodollar......... partly because it is the key to the military dominance of the USA
    over the world.......
partly so that they can get a bigger piece of the thirty five trillion dollars worth of oil and natural gas reserves in the warming Arctic.

    GLOBAL INVESTING HOT SPOTS
Russia and China vie to beat the US in the trillion-dollar race to control the Arctic

Democrats need to look at short term pain can lead to long term gain like Trump and at least Schumer are.

Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer on Sunday praised President Trump for slapping tariffs on $50 billion worth of Chinese products and said he urged the chief executive to do this “three weeks ago.”

“Not only do they steal our intellectual property, they keep our good companies out, and say the only way you’re going to be able to sell your American products in China … is if you come to China, make them there, and give us the techniques and intellectual property,” the New York lawmaker told John Catsimatidis on his AM-970 radio show.

The Senate minority leader said he urged Trump to hit China with the penalties because the US would eventually prevail in any trade war.

“It’s going to take a little bit of toughness at the beginning. China will bark back. But they need us more than we need them — President Trump is right about that — and we should be strong. So I thought what he did on China is right,” Schumer said.

Jul 30, 2018 · Trade War Casualties: Factories Shifting Out Of China. Chinese Co, moving to Ohio
His company, Fuyao Glass, has invested over $1 billion stateside, according to the Post, the most significant move of which is opening its U.S. Factory in the Ohio town of Moraine, a suburb of Dayton, back in October. The glass maker is re-purposing the town’s former General Motors assembly that had been standing empty since late 2008, as the Dayton Daily News reports.

According to Ohio TV station WDTN, the plant now employs a workforce of almost 2,000, and Cao expects that the fully operational facility will employ up to 3,000 workers.

    Tianyuen Garments Co.
In October of last year, Tianyuan Garments Co. Acquired a defunct 100,000-square foot metal fabrications plant in Little Rock, Arkansas and announced a $20 million investment that will make them the first Chinese manufacturing company to manufacture clothing in the US. The company is refurbishing the facility set to open later this year and plans to employ 400 workers to produce clothes for brands like Adidas, Reebok, and Armani.

    Sun Paper Industry
Another big announcement from a Chinese manufacturing company in the past year is from Chinese paper products maker, Sun Paper Industry. They recently announced a $1 billion investment that will create 250 US jobs at their new bio-products mill in South Arkansas.

Local and state governments in the US are able to offer incentives to foreign companies that tip the scales in favor of moving from China to the US. Many Chinese manufacturing companies are now realizing that the lower transportation costs and taxes are making it more profitable to do business in North America than in Asia. As the trend grows, the Chinese companies who provide so many manufactured goods to the North American market are finding that employing American workers is the most profitable method of production.

Not one dime for the wall. He colluded with the Russians, no doubt about it. We have him this time. Yes, they have been after him from day one, but Trump keeps on winning. A red hot economy, the lowest unemployment for Blacks, Hispanics and Asians.

The way China is threatening us over Taiwan and telling us to stay out of the S. China Sea, by their land made islands, you could be right if they think they are finally strong enough. Doesn't help where they have joined up with Russia against us.

To be honest with you, I don't know what he should do now. It's a lose lose.
But I think he will cave because he wants a chance in 2020.

Not if he holds fast. One of two things are going to happen. China will finally give in rather than keep losing factories. Or they will hold out till the election, hoping Trump loses and they can get the Democrats to cave in. They already want Trump to do it.

But your right, Trump has to worry how many people will not want to bear the little pain they would have to to win, and turn against him. I would hate to see Trump cave in for that reason. I would much rather see him address the nation on the importance of sticking with the tariffs on China.

China will hold out, hoping Trump caves in or loses the election.

China can then deal with a rational American government.

Yeah, I think Trump will lose if he implements his tariffs on consumer goods. He may lose anyway, but that will ice it.
And yes, I think the dems will zoom in on a couple of important items and drop the rest.

Xi poked Trump with a sharp stick when he beat him to tariffs on the last 56 billion, and Trump rage tweeted himself into a corner. :)

No. It is obvious China is going to hold out as long as they can to see if he is re-elected.

Which is why we must re-elected him. It is our only chance to stop China's bad trade policy and stealing our technology. Not to mention bringing our jobs back. But we also need to win back the house and keep the Senate.
