From the Guardian: The reality of no-deal Brexit can no longer be distorted

    Excerpt:
It becomes more patently evident every day that the Brits have made a colossal mistake in wanting to leave the EU common-market. That mistake, once completed, is going to come back directly and bite them in the backside financially.

They have stoopidly decided to close the door to their largest trading partner, the other members of the EU - which is one Common Market. And now, having realized their folly, the most egregious of Brit idiot lawmakers want a full Brexit - no accomodations whatsoever. (Because Uncle Sam is going to take the slack! Yeah, right - Uncle Sam is likely heading for his own economic downturn given recent stats.)

Good luck to the Brits. This folly of yours is going to Cost You Plenty of Economic Anguish ...

PS: Isn't it curious that I have seen reports of the Brits living in France - both working and retired - who are rushing madly to become French citizens? (Report in French here.) The British community living in France is estimated at 400K, of which 150K have obtained French citizenship.

Yes, it is quiet strange how they demand to jump of the cliff and might even loose large parts of their country
Thousands of British ex-pats have filed for German citizenship.
Johnson met with Junkers over the week end and Junkers is just shacking his head.
This will be quiet a comedy show till the end of October.

Remember, the British people voted FOR withdrawl from the EU.

    They deserve the consequences ...

No they do not deserve the consequences, it was nearly a split vote and nobody had any idea what truly the consequences would be and how badly the UK politicians would screw it up.
Lets not forget Johnson was installed by his party, only, not by the people.

It was poorly done the first thing they needed to do was form trade alliances between them, the Commonwealth, the USA, China and cut their own deals with individual EU nations as a Option B to a deal with the EU and offer any other leavers a chance to join this new trade organization with few strings. They have no Option B now and so the EU can pay hardball.

No one said they can't deal with EU Nations it would be though on the British terms and be a fair deal nation by nation and not with the EU any longer.

Its called Sovereignty the right of a nation to make its own decisions and then live with them good or bad.

The Brits will pay the full stoopid price of their stoopid dealings.

None of that ever will equal the level-of-trade with the EU (on favored terms, that is, no import duties) and British goods/services are not all that competitive anymore.

No, the Brits screwed-up Royally - it will take another ten-years to fix-it all. Perhaps when the LibDems assume majority power - but even if they are making a comeback, it's not enough to form a government.

Still, who in their right mind would want a country managed by Corbin or whatever lackey the Conservatives would come up with... ?

PS: I will never understand how the Brits allowed their two major parties to be led by knotheads. The most level-headed people I've ever met in Europe. Gone off the deep end.

I like how you say, "Common market". Yes, the UK joined the common market with a commission in the 70's but it was replaced in the 90's by the EU that has a parliament.

And no, it's not a colossal mistake, what a pile of bovine excrement. That means it's a colossal mistakes all the other countries on the planet haven't joined the EU. Not sure why people believe the EU is the all and be all, bizarre.

Brilliant rebuttal. As "bovine excrement" goes!

You (plural) were members of a Large Common Market, and for no apparent reason whatsoever - except that a majority of dimwits in British Boonies who have never had a large-business-relationship with that common-market - GB decided to forgo that market. Because the rules didn't suit them - or so they thought.

As regards CEA (Collective Economic Assinity) Britain has rarely done better. For you (plural) to understand just how idiotic Brexit is we'll have to wait a wee-bit. That is, when UK unemployment starts ratcheting up towards 10%. Which has already started.

And if you think that Donald Dork is going to save collectively your sorry arses, think again. He's got the same problem staring him in the face. And we shall all celebrate his downfal with FRENCH CHAMPAGNE! (I plan on inviting Brit-friends living here in France and actually enjoying it!)

Birds of a feather flock together. (Have a good flock ... ! ;^)

Time will tell. Time will tell.

You Brits have a penchant for looking backwards, when the economic-trainwreck is in your very near future ...

The GOP are doing that by looking at 2016 instead of preparing competently for 2020.

Trade deals are done by the EU and not by the individual members of the EU. The individual members vote on EU trade deals.
As long as the UK is still a member, it can not negotiate trade deals.

Your "rather" is underestimated. Come the impending downturn and the significant rise of unemployment, there's riot-in-the-air.

Never in England!?! We shall see. The jobs gone or going are not coming back. Does anyone really think a car-manufacturer that uninstalls its UK manufacturing plant and hightails it to Poland is going to do a Turnaround and come back? Wow! Then are you ever naive!

I never saw the Brits rioting like-the-French do. You know, like breaking windows on Oxford & Regent Streets! That will make for really interesting "news"!

And the Brits can ship Frenzied-Dimwit Boris off to upper-Siberia where he belongs ...

In fact, I am not French - but a Yank who has lived/worked in a good many European countries.

The facts are there, one must simply dig them out. Which people like you do not want done to them. Too confusing, probably.

They prefer the useless babble from the wRetched Right regarding Brexit, which makes no-sense-whatsoever. Thus, when the voting-majority of a country is so thick as to refuse the evidence, then they are obliged to submit to it!

That too is "democracy". Unfortunately ...

Democracy in Greek means - Rule by people. So the people have the right to vote to elect a person to represent them. This person represents the views of the people in his/hers constituency.

So what has Brexit shown. It has shown that the majority voted to leave the EU so these representatives (MP's) take the people's views to parliament, but, the MP's have ditched the people's views and voted for what they want.

Simply put, it's the Remoaners/Doomsters that have stuck two fingers up to democracy.

That's a fundamental misunderstanding of 'representative democracy'. The people elect a person to represent their INTERESTS in parliament, not necessarily their 'views', and their primary duty is to do what they believe to be in the best interests of their country. MPs are 'representatives', not mere 'delegates'. The people elect a trusted person to act on their behalf in the best interests of the country, according to their own judgement (the idea being that they are able to take the time to scrutinise every element and argument in a way that most people have neither the time nor the interest to do), and if constituents don't like the way they've been doing that they get to vote for someone different at the next election.

This is a principle that has been clearly set out for parliamentarians:

'Your representative owes you, not his industry only, but his judgment; and he betrays, instead of serving you, if he sacrifices it to your opinion … Parliament is not a congress of ambassadors from different and hostile interests, which interests each must maintain, as an agent and advocate, against other agents and advocates; but parliament is a deliberative assembly of one nation, with one interest, that of the whole; where, not local purposes, not local prejudices ought to guide, but the general good, resulting from the general reason of the whole. You choose a member indeed; but when you have chosen him, he is not member of Bristol, but he is a member of parliament.' Edmund Burke's Speech to the Electors of Bristol, 3 Nov. 1774.

'The first duty of a member of Parliament is to do what he thinks in his faithful and disinterested judgement is right and necessary for the honour and safety of Great Britain. His second duty is to his constituents, of whom he is the representative but not the delegate. Burke's famous declaration on this subject is well known. It is only in the third place that his duty to party organization or programme takes rank. All these three loyalties should be observed, but there in no doubt of the order in which they stand under any healthy manifestation of democracy.' Sir Winston Churchill on the Duties of a Member of Parliament.[4]
    https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200607/cmselect/cmmodern/337/33706.htm

Of course, by the standards of the second paragraph, it could certainly be argued that some of them have been placing their 'third place' duty much higher in their priorities than they should have been, but that's a slightly different argument. The point is they are absolutely supposed to use their own judgement about hwat is best for the country, not simply parrot what they think their constituents most want.

Oh, I do believe that Britain should do Brexit. You are stubborn people, and stubborn people must-learn the hard way.

In terms of economic pragmatics, you (plural) are shooting yourselves in the foot by withdrawing a hefty percentage from your main trading partners (see here):
    Total Europe = 40%

Messing about with 40% of Total Exports doesn't take balls, but does require some stoopidity ...
