It's been a busy week here in Virginia involving the controversies surrounding our historical figures.

First, Circuit Judge Richard Moore ruled last week that the Robert E. Lee statue in Charlottesville that was at the root of the protests and violence in that city two years ago must remain where it is in accordance with state law.

Virginia Judge Rules Charlottesville’s Confederate General Statues Must Stay
    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/...villes-confederate-general-statues-must-stay/

Today, I heard that the school board in nearby Richmond will rename a school that was named after a different historical figure from a different era, bringing to mind the question where will this end?:

Debatable, at best, and I sincerely doubt the people at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA share Kamras' politically-correct opinion.

...and now for the opposing argument:

First of all, my position on this is that the decisions regarding these monuments and school names should be left to local communities, but on the other hand I agree with Jonathan Young's concerns and disagree with Jason Kamras' opinion that Mason is unworthy of the honor of having a school here in Virginia, or anywhere else for that matter, named after him.

What's somewhat interesting about the George Mason kerfuffle is that there was no controversy surrounding this Founding Father and his legacy until now. Of all the great historical figures from Virginia, Mason is arguably the least noted of them all, despite the fact he is considered the Father of our Bill of Rights and figured prominently in the passage of the Virginia Statute for Establishing Religious Freedom, which codified the principles of secularism and religious freedom that this country is largely based on.

For those who have been wondering if the likes of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, et al, will escape The Purge, the removal of George Mason's name from a school in his home state suggests that they won't.

This is a big blow against the Democratic Taliban, cultural-marxism and revisionist history.

It is, and I'm going to open a thread on it momentarily, however the Virginia monuments law doesn't prevent the same negationism with school names, so the snowflakes on the Richmond School Board can George Mason Elementary.

Owning slaves was LEGAL and normal at that time. So now we are supposed to hold historical figures, and their accomplishments, to the standards of today or discredit their history?

    That's dumb.

Judging history to today's standards is cultural-marxism.

Who would have ever thought that the Taliban would adopt cultural-marxism revisionist history ?

Or was it that the radical left with in the Democratic party adopted Talibanism ?

The vote on the School Board was 8 to 1.

The 1 Dissenter seems like some sort of Snowflake.

If certain people wanted a Slave Owner's Name to remain on the School, then they should've thought about that before they installed the Members of the current School Board.

At this point, anybody who opposes the decision comes across as a Snowflake (crying over spilt milk).:flagus:

For the left to continue to paint conservatives as racists, they need to erase their own slave owning past.

George Wallace Democrat. Fact is slave owners of the old south confederacy were Democrats and after the civil war they started the KKK. It isn't any surprise they would try to erase their racist and Jim Crow past by tearing down statues and renaming schools.

Taking someone's name off of a public building is not erasing history because.....the building is not the history. The statue is not the history. The history already existed prior to the buildings and the statues, otherwise they wouldn't have those historic names. They aren't taking the names out of the history books, the photographs, paintings, etc, the historical documentaries, the museums, etc.

We do not require statues and building names to teach and remember history. For proof, think about it like this. How many people do you know that keep a statue album of their family, instead of a photo album? How many schools teach history using a collection of statues instead of history books and media?

The statues and buildings aren't the history, so moving the statues and renaming the buildings isn't changing history in any way. Lets get over this redundant and stupid talking point on this issue because it's nonsense.

If anyone could be accused of being a snowflake it's Jason Kamras and the other politically-correct snowflakes who can't handle History and ran to the safe space of removing the Father of the Bill of Rights' name from a school.

Virtually no one thought about it at all because the vast majority of Richmonders are concerned with the funding, performance and conditions of their public schools which are deficient in all respects thanks primarily to the incompetence and misplaced priorities of their Democrat-controlled city government.

Because History is for the "progressive" snowflakes who share the same views as the Islamist snowflakes in ISIS and the Taliban.

If you believe in the religious fairy tales, you will be judged by your works on Judgment Day. Today is a Judgment Day for some of the historical figures and they are coming up short and being tossed into the lake of fire for their evil deeds.

    Boot Monument

A monuments honoring America's first traitor, Benedict Arnold.

Not honored as a traitor but as an American war hero before he changed sides during the American Revolutionary War.

I wonder when the Democratic Taliban will get around toppling Boot Monument ?

If all that you have for "rebuttal" is a clip from 56 Years Ago (that Pre-Dates the 1964 Realignment when the GOP Became the "Southern Segregationist" Party (even Dixiecrat Thurmond switched to the GOP)), you may want to consider updating your OUTDATED Copypasta.

^Nothing personal, of course. Just a Friendly Suggestion.:salute:

And, back on topic, obviously the School Board is within their rights.

Robert Byrd (D) joined the Ku Klux Klan, which he had seen holding parades as a child. He "recruited 150 of his friends and associates to form a chapter of the Ku Klux Klan. After Byrd had collected the $10 joining fee and $3 charge for a robe and hood from every applicant, the Grand Dragon Joel L. Baskin for the mid-Atlantic states came down to tiny Crab Orchard, West Virginia to officially organize the chapter... "When it came time to choose the Exalted Cyclops, the top officer in the local Klan unit, Byrd won unanimously."

In 1944, Byrd wrote to segregationist Mississippi Senator Theodore Bilbo:[9]

“I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side... Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds. ”

    — Robert C. Byrd, in a letter to Sen. Theodore Bilbo (D-MS), 1944, [6][10]

I couldn't tell you, but I can say this..

I wouldn't care if they did. Benedict Arnold still existed and would still be part of American history

The education system has evolved into a rather crude, obsolete, very expensive mechanism for the "progressive" political indoctrination of children.

The entire system needs to be dismantled. Sell the real estate and other assets, and let teachers form their own small independent schools from home or office space using online texts and instruction aids.

Probably deserves a plaque informing viewers that he was a traitor. Ditto all the statues of the Confederate enemies of the USA.

    Historical revisionism should be resisted.

The statues and monuments become part of our history as soon as they are erected.
That does not mean that anyone is required to honor them or the history they represent.

Well, he was a prominent Democrat pol.
Linking DP pols to the KKK never stopped the DP from supporting them.

History books aren't the history either, but we don't burn them on account of the fallacious and nonsensical talking point that you and Jason Kamras are peddling.

You see, history books, like historical monuments, memorials, statues, names, and even works of literature, are all reminders of the history.

But that's not the problem. The problem is History and reality aren't for snowflakes. That's why snowflakes have to negate and revise History in order to insulate their precious little feelings in a psychological safe space from reality and all the difficult, complicated, contradictory and sometimes painful things associated with History and reality.

Not honoring traitors isn’t erasing history. In fact I’d like to replace the traitor statues with ones of General Sherman. Would the south like that or do they want to erase history?
