Is she right? Or is she naive? Is she Climate Change's version of David Hogg?

The video shows the "Heartland Institute" - an American conservative and libertarian public policy think tank founded in 1984 and based in Arlington Heights, Illinois - , hosting a debate on climate change in New York on the same day as the UN meeting was happening (Sept.23).

Only problem, no one turned up to debate the three deniers on the panel (several prominent scientists were invited but apparently were put off by the Heartland Institute's cred...

Anyway, it didn't take long for the Libertarian BS to appear on the panel:

eg the host asks: "why are the governments at the UN meeting being so alarmist?"

Answer from an obliging panel member: " because governments like control, and global warming offers the opportunity for massive control.".....as if governments don't already have enough problems without needing to to be "alarmist" or have "more control".

Now Greta is certainly a remarkable individual, even more so considering her age.

But are the adults in the room complicit in employing her - and her understandable emotion - as a 'performing monkey', to help gain traction for their cause - in the face of their own inadequacies, as Greta herself suggests?

    Greta says:
She is right about money: the entrenched financial interests ripping fortunes out of countries (like Nigeria) while leaving the locals impoverished is legion....

She is also right about eternal economic growth that depends on ever increasing population.

If I was her, I would bypass the climate deniers like the fools arguing about ice- ages (in the video above). and state plainly: regardless of AGW (whether it's real or not), the fossil industry which spews countless tons of poisonous gases, carcinogenic particulates, smog and acid rain into the atmosphere Must Be Closed Down, ASAP.

We have the solar, wind and pumped-hydro technologies required to completely exit the filthy fossil industry in the next 20 years.

Then send the bill to the IMF and let them contemplate it forever if they wish: the problem is not 'money', but resources: all of which exist to get the job done, eg the resources, labour and equipment released from the managed closure of the fossil industry will release vast resources to enable transition to green, and other materials can be readily mined from existing operations or deposits.

Then guess what....the planet runs on sunshine and wind.....

Someone needs to help her with her emotions and narcissism. Why are we listening to children about such matters?

Well as one writer put it

How 16-year-old Greta Thunberg’s rise could backfire on environmentalists
"Just how inspiring or even persuasive you find Greta’s speeches and overall activism likely depends on where you stand on the political spectrum. There are plenty of politicians and regular voters claiming to be inspired by her words and passion. There are also lots of observers expressing general alarm at what they see as an indoctrinated child being coerced by adults to make their political arguments with her youth as a shield from any criticism."
    https://www.cnbc.com/2019/09/24/how-greta-thunbergs-rise-could-backfire-on-environmentalists.html

If they are going to send this child out to presumptively scream and yell at the adults and instruct them on what they should or should not do and blame them for her lot in life then she and the adults who sent her should expect and not condemn criticism of her. If she wants to be on the adult stage then she can expect to be treated as one, if she can't handle it emotional then don't step on that stage.

Because adults confuse "money" with sustainable development of resources; and the kids will have to deal with the consequences...

So I will begin disabusing those mired in said confusion:

    1. 'Money' has no intrinsic value, in our post gold-standard era.
    2. A nation's true wealth is described in the following identity:

Wealth (not money) = resources + labour + education.

Money does not appear in this identity, because money has no intrinsic value. Money functions to facilitate creation of wealth in the form of desirable goods and services, ie, by facilitating the necessary interactions of the agents on the RHS of the above identity (though such interactions could occur without money, but with much less convenience, of course.)

Sufficient and just access to that wealth can be ensured by guaranteed above poverty employment, the wage level being relative to the nation's created wealth (the wage level conveniently measured by 'money' but dependent only on the community's real wealth, not the 'quantity of money'* in the economy.

*bits of paper with numbers written on them, or far more commonly, computer code in computers...intrinsically worthless.

[I know... it took a long time for people to learn that the earth is not flat, because the truth was not part of their lived experience.....]

No, but the adults ought to understand and they don't, as demonstrated by your ignorant question: "why are we listening to children?"

Greta is a brainwashed Autistic child. Used as a pawn for cultists/extremists who just want to stir chaos and sow dissent between people. Hell, she doesn't even seem to actually understand the topic itself of which she is basically screeching about.

A good amount of people who go "BUT THINK OF THE CHILDREN!" are the same people who throw kids like Greta on the frontlines because using reason to rationalize their arguments for their ideas, lets just jump to the "but someone please think of the children" fallacy. F off.

If anything I feel sorry for this kid. She's getting flak that the ADULTS who are abusing her are supposed to get. But George Soros and all the other trash are hiding.

And for the record: She's ignorant and naive. Doesn't actually understand the subject matter or all the calls for debate on the topic would at least have been honored. If she actually knew the source material you'd see debate on the topic, but alas, she just runs to the UN and screech about "muh climate change".

Maybe she accepted her shortcomings and acknowledged that thousands of experts spanning a broad array of scientific disciplines knew more than she did?

She suffers from an anxiety disorder so acute that it resulted in an eating disorder severe enough to malnourish her to the point where her growth was stunted.

This isn't my opinion. This was all laid out as fact in the book that was written about her.

The fact that her parents are encouraging her to indulge in exactly what's causing her anxieties, rather than insulating her from them, is a clear form of psychological abuse.

Exactly. I am old enough to remember the middle school duck and cover drills in case of nuclear attack and the Cuban missile crisis. That’s what adults who are scaring her to death are doing to this child.

I honestly had no idea...I don't know much but about her. But in general these extreme viewpoints on both sides of the argument distract from the real issues. I blame politics. It seems like the institution was designed to yield the most polarized viewpoints possible.
