I wonder what the terms were, and I assume there were terms considering we were resisting this since Turkey started its open incursions into Syria. The Kurds should have seen the writing on the wall, they either have to reconcile with the government like they did west of the Euphrates or get rolled again by Turkey. There is also an opening for Russian support if they go with the Syrian government but would likely mean they lose the oil fields they captured. Its interesting to note that the Syrian government has a presence in one of the northern towns which will be in the zone.

    Excerpt:

The White House has said Turkey will soon invade northern Syria, renewing fears of a slaughter of Kurdish fighters allied with the US in a years-long campaign against Islamic State (IS).

    Key points:
    • The White House said US forces "will no longer be in the immediate area", though it's not clear if all troops are being withdrawn
    • Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has threatened to invade northern Syria for months
    • Fears persist for the safety of Kurdish fighters if the US was to leave Syria, as Donald Trump proposed last year

For months, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been threatening to launch a military assault on the Kurdish forces in northern Syria, many of whom his Government considers terrorists.

The Kurdish forces bore the brunt of the US-led campaign against IS militants, and Republicans and Democrats have warned that allowing the Turkish attack would send a troubling message to American allies across the globe.

US troops "will not support or be involved in the operation" and "will no longer be in the immediate area," in northern Syria, White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said in an unusual late-Sunday (local time) statement that was silent on the fate of the Kurds.

Finally, it is to establish peace by clearing the region of PKK terrorists.
And finally Turko-American relations start off with a clean slate.

Thanks to Trump :applause::applause::applause: Our alliance will survive

Syrian oil production peaked over 20 years ago. They don't even produce enough to meet domestic consumption.

It might not be huge but its still a source of production for income and partial domestic consumption. Is 400K pbd not enough to want (Production before the rebellion)? Why have they been defending it along with the US; for instance when Wagner mercs tried to take it back? Not that I think our presence is to stop Syrian oil production, but we do want to destabilize the Syrian government and stopping 400k pbd surely does not help the government.

400,000 bpd is way too high..

Crude Oil Production in Syria remained unchanged at 25 BBL/D/1K in May from 25 BBL/D/1K in April of 2019. Crude Oil Production in Syria averaged 345.11 BBL/D/1K from 1994 until 2019, reaching an all time high of 598 BBL/D/1K in December of 1996 and a record low of 14 BBL/D/1K in January of 2017.

    No Kurdistan, it is Syria.

All the Syrian Arab refuges (more than 4 millions) escaped Turkey, they all came from Northern Syria. We will not allow PKK to steal Syrians' lands.

They can stay there in peace. Our fight is against PKK.
And Turkish Armed forces have many soldiers with Kurdish origin :)

Syrian refuges will go back their lands after our operations. We will save Europe too... Greece cries and complains everyday and tell EU to give Turkey more more money but we are done - 4 million refuges are really an economic burden.

400k bpd is close to average when the fields were active, even if its 100k its more than 0k. As per your charts, production dropped when the protests started and when rebellion/ISIS took the production areas. Pretty average production for what its worth before that happened. But as I said its not about a global oil aspect, but a national one to limit the governments abilities. IE: They might not have needed the Iranian oil tanker so desperately if they had the minor production from their fields. (Fuel crisis btw in Syria that any domestic production would go towards lessening.) You act as if its not KSA production levels that control over a nations resources is a non-issue, its nonsense.

Not since Syrian oil production peaked in 1996.. Syria's oil is of a VERY poor quality and their fields were in sharp decline BEFORE 2011.

Currently they are pumping less than 24,000 bpd.

KSA has NOTHING to do with Syria or Syrian oil.

I don't know really but I am only sure that Syria should not be divided. If United States support a free Kurdistan in North, then you should naturalize all the Syrian refuges (from North Syria) :)

It was not our war but Turkish tax payers do not have to help millions of Syrians forever.

(BTW Sorry for my bad English, I haven't write in English for a long time)

I know Turkey was also overrun with refugees during both Iraq wars... and now you have sheltered some 2 million Syrians.

No, it is about 4 millions.... interestingly, Saudi Arabia did not accept any Syrian Refuges, the gulf Arabs are selfish and rich creatures and they are shame of humanity... They are ethnic Arabs, Syrians can integrate 100 times better in a random Arab countries. Turkish is an Altaic language (like Korean, Japanese, Mongolian) it is hard for them to learn, we are culturally irrelevant, we are irrelevant people.

I only mentioned that even if its not KSA levels of production, the field help the Syrian government, and are a source of domestic oil. Your graphs show a decline but not considerable until the government lost the fields which eventually landed under the influence of ISIS. The graphs show that production would not be at less than 100k bpd under the trend they were following. Nationally, the Syrian government surely wants to control their own natural resources, even at low levels of production. But sharp decline, looking at the graphs, is an overstatement and only truly happened when they lost the fields. With the fuel crisis they have in government controlled areas, anything would help, the policy of denying them the fields has had the desired effect. IE: stopping Wagner mercs from reclaiming them with lethal force. Kind of weird you would think its a non issue for the government, you know the matter of controlling their national resources, based off of what you perceive as production to low to bother.

Oil business hates a war zone.. Assad should have done something about Syria's crisis before he started killing people. Syria has been in serious trouble since 2006.

Yes I think definitely, this is about Iraq, the PKK will have to move out of Turkey's way, hopefully Turkey will indeed repatriate 2 million people into north eastern Syria...we will see.

    Trump sends troops in- "Warmonger!"

    Trump pulls troops out- "Backstabber!"

    Make up your minds, lefties.

Is Trump a warstabber, or a backmonger?

Since Turkey is going into Syria it is going to get involved with Iranian forces there.
    This is Suni-Shia explosives.
We will see how this plays out.
This is the real story here.
