Uh-oh what now? My car can keep me going for a week or more. People with electric cars are stuck at home. And imagine the power surge when they come back on and all those cars plugged in. Guess they hadn't thought about that.

Electric-Car Owners Hard Hit by Massive California Power Shutdown

    From Car and Driver

    • Nearly a million Californians are now without power as the electric company deliberately shut it off this week, fearing high winds would spark wildfire.

    • The affected area in Northern California surrounds Fremont, home of Tesla, and a great many electric-car owners who can't charge their vehicles as usual.

    • Tesla's Elon Musk is swapping in battery Powerpacks and solar power for Superchargers in the region as fast as he can get permits, he claims on Twitter.

People will need to buy generators - that is if there are any left, plus the minute you turn your back they'll be stolen. And how about gas stations? What will power their gas pumps? And the treffic lights won't work, gonna have some fun at the intersections.

And the power surge will be real, as BG said. When power is turned on every single item plugged into the wall will draw a rush of current, and when you it add it up the total momentary current surge could cause problems unless they turn the power back on in small chunks at a time.

Think of it as a preview of the 'Green New Deal'.
Even if they go back to the horse and buggy in CA, horses still fart a lot. I guess some will have to walk. Bicycle sales will probably skyrocket.

Yes, it’s great, isn’t it? Without power cable tv and phone companies shut down in three hours when their back up batteries die. Cell phone towers will be dead. Heck, you cant even charge your cell phone or get government emergency alerts because you won’t have anything to receive them on.

Here’s the best part, the pumps that pump drinking water to houses will shut off without power.

The only people who will think this isn’t a big deal are the illegals because all of this is normal in their countries.

Of all the problems caused by no power you grab on to electric cars? :applause:

It's like everything works but electric cars.

    :banana:righties.

No, nothing works without power. Now let’s talk about your green new deal and how incredibly stupid it is.

    Go.

I feel for them, sort of, but they voted for all the radical liberals in CA, so... It will be another disaster for about a million and a half people.

Left, right, meh. Either persuasion ought to be prepared for something like this. Must suck being dependent on others for everything all the time.

Don't gasoline pumps work on electric power? Unless you have a full tank when the power goes out you're in the same boat, or car.

Nothing works without a power source. Hospitals and most public buildings have generator backups good for maybe 8 hours without needing to be refueled. Private homes with city water and sewers may still operate for a while but any with private wells or septic systems won't without electric power. Gas station pumps won't work. No stores will be open without light, power and refrigeration. It will be a miserable 6 days for most. I hope they remember who was responsible for the mismanaged debacle caused by liberals when they vote.

How much do you want to bet the first place CA tries to find emergency power for are the joints that shelter illegals, because, you know racism.

So it’s true, you don’t know. But yet you’ll support it. I have no idea what they call it in your world, but in mine they call it being a sheep.

I'm sure as electric car use expands and technology improves we will become better at dealing with power outages.

Let’s talk about how incredibly stupid it is in this day and age to still be relying on centralised power

Yeah! That is because “your world” has no real concept of independent thinking

Witness the number of right wing posters who do not vaLidate what they post or research what they are basing their beliefs on

Even the OP didn’t bother to check what the effect on gas pumps would be before launching a hur hur thread about electric cars, ignoring the fact that solar can charge batteries - not fully but it will probably extend the life of the car longer than the poor shmuck waiting for the petrol station to have power again

There is a certain irony that the individuals actively trying to limit their impact on climate change are being further hurt by other efforts to limit the impact of climate change.

I'm talking now and if there is a fire how will they evacuate? Just like where I live and a hurricane is coming and you have to evacuate and you can get stuck in traffic for hours and hours.

The question is why hasn't electric car use expanded. Limited range? Excess cost?

A larger question is why haven't homeowners and businesses installed solar power? We are talking about a State with a mostly warm climate that is mostly sunny. Apparently many of the left wingers here have generators, but for reasons I don't grasp do not have solar.

Regarding your comments about "right wing posters" who do not validate what they post. Your world is Australia. You know nothing about the US other than what you read in your fake news and base your beliefs on. And that doesn't stop you from expressing opinions.

If I lived in CA I would have an off grid solar system.
