"It's time we wake up people, it's time, it's passed time... We got a queer running for president, if that ain't about as ugly as you can get, Look what we got running for president in the Democratic party... I'm not prejudiced, but by golly a white male in this country has very few rights, and they're getting took more every day."

Commissioner Warren Hurst, who's held his seat for 33 years, made the remark during an unprompted rant ahead of a vote on a gun measure at Monday night's commission meeting. He railed against the national Democratic Party and said better presidential candidates could be found in the local jail.

Many in the crowd applauded Hurst, and some said, "Amen."

Unfortunately this is not as uncommon as many people say that it is and is supported by a now exposed part of the Republican party that many here say is no longer an issue.

I always find it interesting when an individual or organization that receives taxpayer funds making a slur against tens of millions of fellow Americans. We have republicans calling for open holy war, that laws do not apply to them, that not only support corruption and greed but also applaud it, that the voice of the people should be discarded...

    Strange times we live in.

    What is the "explosive reaction"?

He has a right to call a homosexual a "queer". It was common language and not a slut for decades prior until Leftists starting seizing control of our language with their own brand of Orwellian NewSpeak. I used to call my gay friends here in California "queer" and they never had an issue with it, until someone suddenly decided it was a slur. Now the word "F-word" for male gays, or the "D-word" for female gays are and have always been derogatory, but queer was never an issue. Hell, these guys embraced it before Leftists decided they had enough power to impose language and thought police on people.

"They're getting took more every day"?? Need I say more?? Poorly educated Trump supporter ...

I hope this idjit doesn't affect tourism for those areas.... While the town of Pigeon Forge is generally a pile of Pigeon ****, Gatlinburg is actually a nice little town as the western gateway to SMNP.... But neither needs to suffer because of this dipstick...

Future Warren Hurst campaign flyers -"Don't get your rights took... Vote for me and I'll fight the queers"

It was clearly meant as a derogatory.
    Intellectually dishonest to claim otherwise

I still don't know what the reference to "explosive reaction" is? Can you share what this is referring to? It sounds like someone has a real bias and there was no such reaction.

The majority of the county is painfully aware at how the right deems personal attacks and slurs “not a bid deal”.

It's not a big deal to rail against heterosexuals, whites, men, conservatives, or Christians. You can do it without much backlash, maybe commended in some cases.

I've always thought it to be odd that you can type honkey, cracker, hillbilly, redneck, mick, wop, polack without the words being filtered. You'd think all derogatory words would be filtered.

Depends on the base, yes some on the left are just as insane as some on the right. No one should be subject to penalty simply for existing.

No words should be filtered — bigotry should be allowed to expose itself.
But private site on private servers can do what they wish I guess.

What if he said "we have a liberal running for president...?" If he was speaking to conservatives that could also be taken as derogatory. How many times have conservatives been called bigots, racist, homophobes, etc?

How should gay Republicans feel about the Republican stance on them as queers and it being “ugly” that they are even allowed to run?

If conservatives would stop being such bigots — or applauding it and saying amen — maybe they would stop being called what they are.
    Just a suggestion

I would not have phrased my statement the way that guy did, I would have focused on the word liberal rather than queer. But the left did make the word queer mainstream again and inserted it into their long list of letters. What's good for the goose....

So you believe he was using the word as a term of endearment?
Or are you just trying to obfuscate?

Is calling someone a racist a term of endearment? Queer is now a mainstream word, but it would seem only select people are allowed to use it.

@cd8ed You and I have civilly conversed on the side lines and all was cool, if you were my neighbor we'd probably get along just great. But here's the deal, we on the right are called every name in the book from racists, bigots, homophobes, islamophobes, misogynists, haters and we're even called Nazis. Nazis! Can you believe that? Because of the left's constant barrage of insulting names, we on the right have pretty much grown numb or immune to it. But when someone on the left is called a name the left can't figure out why us folks on the right are not outraged by it. Well, ******n, we're used to being insulted and we now have thick skin because of it.

So from my point of view it's hard to feel outrage or sympathy for a person on the left when they get hit with a word they don't like all while the left purposely bombards us with insults meant to demean and insult.

    :bored:

Nice copypasta to rationalize the sort of antagonism that Trumpism has brought to America.

Anyway, the guy in the OP deserves to be recalled or expelled from the position that he currently holds.:salute:

I don’t agree when the left attacks the right for irrelevant criteria and don’t agree when the right does it either. I assure you, both sides do it pretty equally and both sides have their favorite buzzwords.

Also, attacking gay people doesn’t just attack the left — I know many hardcore conservative gay people that feel betrayed by others that share their ideology because they applaud events like this.

How about everyone just agree to call out hate irregardless of where it is coming from or who it is directed at?
Or we can just point at each other and say “you deserve this”.

If this was... let’s say a black politician saying that... white people shouldn’t be allowed to vote or participate in campaigns, would you feel differently? Or Christians? Or men?

Would you be shrugging it off so casually?

You mean like when the left said old white men should not run for president? Yes, I think all of us casually shrugged that off.

I remember some of those threads — I can assure you very few on the right shrugged it off.

    Selective outrage infects both parties.

Well, we already know that bible thumpers who support immoral degenerates like trump are complete hypocrites, so it’s not surprising.
    Just sad.

While I agree it doesn’t make one special, should it disqualify someone from public office?
If it does that eliminates a very large percentage of the population.

Should we applaud people that receive taxpayer funded salaries that use slurs to identify these people?
