If he wants to legalize pot, that type of legislation originates in the house.

Marijuana should be unregulated (minimum age to buy/use, like alcohol, would be reasonable).

    Machine guns too.

They were both 'banned by fiat' by instituting the exact same catch-22 tax stamp 'regulations' by appointed bureaucrats back in the 30s, then slowly ramped up in restriction through the courts without a single vote being cast by anyone.

After we unregulate them, we can vote to regulate/restrict as we please state by state, or we can have a ConCon to do it federally, as the Constitution intended (state by state would be way easier/better).

if Trump was smart he would legalize it before the election to take credit for ending the prohibition - and take it away from the dem candidates

nothing is getting done cause Trump is not pushing for anything bipartisan, this and infrastructure is something he could get done, but he probably wont

It is mostly a state issue. Write to your governor. I did.

I say, all drugs and prostitution should be legalized. End the victimless crime!
It’s cheaper to pay for rehabs than housing prisoners and destroying people’s lives for no good reason.

I agree, Trump should allow the states to decide - remove the federal classification, which by the way, Marijuana doesn't even meet the standards of a scheduled one drug as it has valid medical uses - the FDA is not even following their own rules for classify drugs

They sell cannabis openly in Colorado, or so I have been told. What the feds do doesn't matter much; there aren't any revenuers going around. A law that isn't enforced is not a problem.

The last time I was at SFO, there was a guy right outside the airport smoking weed. Considering that airports are filled with every type of cop imaginable, I think it's fair to say that weed is already legal if states want to make it legal.

Then I went to visit my brother who was using his excess for mulch in his vegetable garden. He had a hefty garbage bag filled with the stuff and couldn't even give it away because all his neighbors were growing the same crop.

Don't know what that has to do with the topic, but she's not going to get her chance this time around.

She has announced that she's all in for the presidency in 2020 and she's not going to run for reelection to her seat in Congress in 2020 which surprised me. Since her district is going to elect a Democrat anyway, I would have preferred that she keep her seat.

If Trump wins reelection in 2020, wouldn't it make more sense for her to challenge the Republican opponent in 2024 from the position of a sitting member of Congress?

I admit to being a bit baffled by this announcement.

I am not sure it would be a good idea to legalize machine guns. A lot of law enforcement agencies already feel that they are outgunned.

Pot is legal in Oregon where I live, and the sky isn't falling. People who like it are going to use it whether it's legal or not, and people who choose not to use it are not going to use it.

Law enforcement has got better things to do.

They would only be legal until the states re-regulated them according to the will of The People. Just like weed. Thats how its sposed to work.

    States rights.
Personally I think using substances that alter the way your brain works is a bad idea andvi don't think legalization is a net benefit but the people of each state should decide.
Just remember it's still illegal on federal land.
For decades pot had been the number one money maker for the murderous Mexican drug cartels, using their products funds their murderous ways.

but he can ask Congress to do it and he can sign the bill once passed

Trump could stop whining all the time and try to actually work with both parties to accomplish something

No, he can't change that. It requires a bill to cross his desk that he can sign.

I think this would be a pretty smart move if he did that. It would put pressure on the house to do something besides focus on impeaching him, and it would turn their impeachment inquiries into a story that might make the editorial section, rather than front page news.

The problem is that he isn't a druggie. He doesn't smoke weed or even drink! It's not on his radar, and not what he was elected to do. For him, he sees drugs as bad things, which he isn't so very far off of the mark. If you asked him, he'd probably like to see prohibition make a comeback.

If you want to actually get weed off the federal books, it's not going to be Trump. It could be Bernie, although I doubt he really means it. He's just looking at his poll numbers and thought this might be something that could push him up at least into third place.
