Colleges and universities across the country are closing their doors or merging with other schools at a rather alarming rate since 2016.At least 89 schools have either closed completely or merged with another nearby in state school since 2016.One Harvard study has concluded that as many as half of all colleges could close by 2025.Declining enrollments caused by ever rising tuition costs and the questioning by many of the value of a college education are being blamed.Affordability is having the greatest effect on black and Hispanic students as they are usually at the bottom of the income scale.Obviously this will mean significant decline in teaching positions. The northeastern states have all seen several closures in what appears to be a growing tre

I have a bachelor’s in business (marketing) and a master’s in liberal arts (American History). I don’t regret getting either degree. College was a joy.

When I entered the workforce in the 1980’s, companies required a bachelor’s degree. They hired the best people and then stepped back to let them do their thing.

The trend in business now is to “dumb down” as many jobs as possible and use the idiotic Six Sigma management approach (micromanagement on steroids). This allows companies to hire high school grads and pay them a lower wage than the college grads. It also destroys company-employee loyalty and leads to massive turnover. And it kills customer service. College degrees are less in demand than they used to be.

I meant 89 closing in less than 3 years, with Harvard predicting we may lose half of all colleges over the next 6 years.

One not as many students millenials are the last boom generation. The colleges and universities have spent the last couple of decades trashing normal male female relationships. And trying to drive men especially heterosexual white men out of the places. They now, because that short sight bilge suddenly find themselves facing declining enrollment mainly because there aren't enough qualified kids to go around. And the Caucasian males graduate high find out they can make a six figure salary driving a truck or being a line mechanic. And having spent the last twelve years being bullied by SJW's masquerading as teachers figure screw that crap take the six figures sit back fat and happy and laugh their asses off at their contemporaries with PHD's in philosophy waiting tables at starbucks

it makes sense that they are trending down I'm ok with that.

If that ever comes to fruition that is a hell of a lot of teaching jobs gone from the economy.

people can't afford it and the jobs are not guaranteed to be there when you do graduate

so many companies outsourcing overseas and trying to cut costs as consumer spending less due to so many jobs going overseas

right now one is almost better off doing a trade

I don’t know what “normal” is but it’s been obvious for years this scam had run its course and the piper would have to be paid.

I think the issue is, people take elective courses that do not increase job chances

I would compare these classes to elective surgery, they should not be covered by the government

I don't see this as alarming at all, as long as trade schools are available to pick up the slack.
