    Here.

Finland is the only EU country where homelessness is falling. Its secret? Giving people homes as soon as they need them – unconditionally.

It will take a little time but I think it will be interesting to see who maintains these homes.

Why not give homes, household items, utilities, cars, gas, clothes, shoes, food, and a weekly allowance? Make everything free and hand out money. But, but, where would all the free items come from? Gee, I don't know, I guess the government. But where would the government get them. How would I know.

I got a solution for the US. Put them in CCitizen's home unconditionally.

Sadly American Taxpayers are very angry at the prospect of having to help people in need.

Nobody living in a nice neighborhood wants a development of houses given out free to the homeless to be located near them. It would drastically drop property values overnight.

It has nothing to do with "being angry". It is more about finances and safety.

Half of Americans think that the poorest among us, are poor due to their own fault and need no help - even though most homeless people have physical and/or mental shortcommings that prevent them from doing better.

The problem with helping the homeless is that homelessness prevents them from improving. In Salt Lake City they began housing the homeless and then helping them with their other problems, to great success.

Exactly, people have a tendency not to value something they were given for free.

Definitely. I have strong disagreements with both Liberals and Conservatives.

Conservative support for guns and lack of support for helping those in need is very cruel.

That could be used to solve all problems- whatever you want, we will give it to you.
I wonder if the people who will be paying the bills will be happy about it. If not, they can always quit working to support the giveaway and sign up to benefit from it. That way, soon nobody would have to work at all...
The left is already planning that, except they haven't figured out that when you cook the golden goose for dinner, the golden eggs quit coming.

Its not that Conservatives do not support helping those in need, because most certainly support a social safety net. Rather, Conservatives tend to take a more realistic approach as to how best to help those in need. Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Teach him to fish and he eats for a lifetime.

With the chronically homeless specifically, you are almost always talking about a person that is severely mentally ill and often times compounded by severe substance abuse. The vast majority are not capable of maintaining a home. They are best served by offering them access to shelters, and if they refuse, there isn't a whole lot that anyone can do. Giving them a house to ruin certainly is not the answer.

How does giving a house to people who largely have a. serious mental illnesses or b. serious drug additions or c. combination of both help them?

Correct. And if he refuses to learn because you are there to fish for him- you let him go hungry until he finds some motivation to do for himself. We have always been a people glad to give a hand-up, but the hand-out that only enables people to continue taking hand-outs is hardly beneficial to anybody.

These people should get Mental Health help. In USA they mostly get prison.

Then you've identified the problem with giving people houses.

It doesn't help the reason they can't buy a house like the rest of us.

When I was a teenager, a great aunt of mine gave me a nice guitar, an old Martin she had laying around. I still have it, some 45 years later and still play and cherish it. I think it is now 89 years old.

Good for you but not everyone shares that quality of values. For some, it's "easy come, easy go".
