The Trump administration announced a plan Wednesday to end food-stamp benefits for about 700,000 Americans, issuing a new regulation that makes it harder for states to gain waivers from a requirement that beneficiaries work or participate in a vocational training program.

Great move. The US is the only place in the world where poor people are fatter than rich people.

Your evidence that the elderly are part of this?

The work requirement covers “able-bodied” recipients. A U.S. Department of Agriculture spokeswoman said it doesn’t apply to recipients who are over 50, disabled or pregnant, or anyone with a child under 18.

    Reading is fun.....

Ironic, he gives farmers billions for not farming. Trump and his supporters are inconsistent.

Thanks for that. Now i'm not sure i'm against this move. There should be some level of work-requirements for welfare.

    lol

Every province from BC to Ontario (because that's when I stopped checking each individual provinces websites) all have work requirements to get welfare.

Also, we aren't a socialist country. We are a Westminster style parliamentary democracy with a free market economic systems who's direct and indirect profits are used to fund a social safety net including healthcare.

    Ah. Bad Obama. Bad.

The nature of the diet is what makes poor people fat. What packs on the pounds are lower priced foods . To eat healthy is more expensive and people on stamps buy as cheap as possible. And if you knew any poor people you would know this hard fact

Keep on punching downward. It is a conservative thing imo.

Of course cutting into safety nets guarantee some form of socialism. Sometimes you have to slap conservatives extra hard to get their brains operating again.

Enjoy the sadism while you can. For it isnt sustainable.

You are incorrect. 10% of EBT/SNAP benefits are spent on sweetened beverages. The most common purchases are milk, beef, pre-packaged snacks, and cheese. Is this what you consider a healthy diet?

First, we subsidize the production of these foods, then subsidize the purchase, and finally, we subsidize the pharm drugs that mask the symptoms so that the poor can continue to trade their health for record profits for the food and drug companies.

Why worry about having the fattest, sickest population in US history when you can take cheap shots at conservatives?

Uh, oh, this will save a whopping $5.5 billion over 5 years.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/poli...reds-of-thousands-from-food-stamps/ar-BBXJQ20

Or, 0.7% of the cost of the tax cuts.

As typical, the GOP tries to "balance" the budget on the backs of the ones who can least afford it, while giving unpaid-for tax cuts to the rich. Nothing new to see here.

Meanwhile, expect inequality to further skyrocket.

The entire point of spending money on poverty is to get them off government assistance.

This is called having a job.

People who are under 50, without kids and without disabilities have no reason not to be employed.
