Usually when this is touted people are referring to "educated" as being college/university educated. Everyone else is non-educated.

God what arrogance. Being educated in a college or university does not make you better. There are lots of people out there that go to trade schools. And lots of people that don't and yet are still able to make a middle class income. Some even make millions.

With that thought I'd also like to introduce you to some historical figures that didn't go to college/university.

    George Washington
    Andrew Jackson
    Martin Van Buren
    Zachary Taylor
    Millard Fillmore
    Abraham Lincoln
    Andrew Jackson
    Grover Cleveland

All of the above had NO college or university education. Two of them didn't even finish high school. And yet they were ALL Presidents. There were more that did go to a college or university but dropped out.

And here's a list of high school drop outs that are not multi millionaires

    Robert Di Nero
    Vidal Sassoon
    Kirk Kerkorian
    Francois Pinault
    50 Cent
    Peter Jackson
    Jessica Simpson
    Uma Thurman
    Larry Flynt
    Billy Joel
    Catherine Zeta-Jones
    Richard Carmona
    David Karp
    Don Imus
    Sidney Poitier
    Amancio Ortega
    Ahmet Nazif Zorlu
    Jay-Z
    Carl Lindner
    George Foreman
    Simon Cowell
    Gisele Bundchen
    David Murdock
    Richard Branson
    Jim Clark

So, before you try and put down people that are "uneducated" you may want to think twice next time. Because if you have ANY shred of honesty and after seeing this list...and knowing that there are FAR more out there...you will no longer be able to truthfully state that stupid ass talking point anymore.

There is people which stopped school at 15 YO who read a book a week or even a month, some ingenior never opened a book beside their studies.

But how liberals could scorn countryside workers if they didn't had their precious certificate ?

It sure would have helped you. You wrote two sentences and made several grammatical errors. It starts with 'There ARE people' and in the second sentence it's 'they didn't HAVE their precious CERTIFICATES'. And what is an ingenior?

The next time your car stalls, call a college educated person to fix your car. Be sure and let us know how that worked out.

This debate is responsible for a lot of unnecessary animosity. There are educated and uneducated morons. There are educated and uneducated geniuses. Not everyone can be a quarterback. A quarterback is pretty ineffective without an offensive line. They would all be vegetables without someone providing them with protective equipment.

We should act more like a team.

KS, I've got to add a little story to this. I have a high school diploma, but no formal college credits- I am mainly self-taught, and a self-made millionaire having founded 7 businesses with the 8th starting soon. I'm also an inventor with over 50 products on the market, a very successful investor, a teacher of a special program I developed for self-improvement as well as business skills, and knowledgeable over a wide variety of fields. Many years ago I was single, and sometimes communicating with women met by dating ads. A woman called one evening who seemed bright and well-spoken, We spent almost two hours on the phone, discussing a variety of things from philosophy to sciences, including psychology, marine biology and nuclear physics. She commented several times about the depth of knowledge I had and how she had learned many things new in our talk. Then she asked me what my degree was in, and I said, I don't have a degree. So she asked, what colleges I had attended, and I told her none. Then she said- well- I guess we wouldn't have anything to talk about then. I said "you are probably right" and she hung up.

What she never understood was that in my opinion, any person that defines themselves by the diploma on their wall has very little of what it would take to by a partner to me.
I felt sorry for her, in that she was likely to be drawn to someone that was just like she was- gift wrapping on an empty box.

English is his second language, how's your French? AND you illustrate very well the "arrogance" part of the OP.

It is a shame, people of normal intelligence are now miseducated to be complete morons. What a waste of resources! You could feed all the starving children in the world with the cost of miseducation here in the West.

    An engineer.

Thanks. In fact, English is my third language. I have only one native language. For english, I got some grammar basics at schools, but I self-learned 70% of my english. But Captainnice is more helpfull that most people which point only that you make mistakes without naming that. In that case, I know where I did some mistakes.

An education can get you out of the gutter. I was born into a poor family but got good qualifications at school and went to university, got a good degree and went into a professional job, did well for myself. Others can do well without college too. I guess if you plot income against education you'll see the benefit, but it doesn't mean you can't make it if you have other skills, like sport, entertainment or being an entrepreneur.

Something I have found common in the "educated" is to attack grammar as if it were a measure of overall capacity or knowledge. Typically, I make a fair number of such errors in posts- not out of ignorance, but from the fact that at my age, my manual dexterity and eyesight are both diminished, by my mind still works at full speed- and outpaces my typing skills. As I'm not trying to impress people with my grammar, I don't worry too much about it. If they are smart, they will understand my message. If they are arrogant and insecure, they will probably attack the formatting and miss the message.....

An education can get you out of the gutter, but will not do much for you once you get out of the gutter, if you lack the intelligence and motivation to do something with that education. I have seen far too many PhDs who lacked the intelligence and motivation to work beyond that education.

It's interesting that liberals claim to be more educated but conservatives that voted for Trump make more money.

Nothing wrong with being "self-educated" or specializing in something ...

That said, I'm not going to go to a self-taught Cardiologist or want kids sent to a school full of self-taught teachers.
And there are always exceptions to every rule, but in general, the world is better off with scientists taught at major universities rather than learning "science" from Shaun Hannity.

Nobody would argue with that. But everyone does not have to be a cardiologist or teacher. There is an urgent need for tradesmen.

Not really. You would have to average in Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Jeff Bezos, and a number of the wealthiest non-Trump voters.

I have a master’s degree and a 145 IQ. I’m glad I have those things. But as I’ve said here before, I’m humbled almost every day at work where co-workers with much less college and IQ’s around 100-110 teach me things. I learn from them all the time.

It’s good to have a college background, but that’s just a very small fraction of who you are.

If you have a degree you have the intelligence. How much were these PhDs making that you look down on?

Education and intelligence are not the same thing. I've met dozens of college educated idiots. And I'm one of those who achieved a six figure income without going to college.

Some of us are self-educated simply because we love to read. I find reading and book choice to be a much better indication of intelligence than any college degree. When in doubt about someone's level of intelligence, look at their book collection.

(BTW, guess who never picks up a book or spends any time reading ... )

No one is saying that education is a bad thing. Just that education will not make you more intelligent. If you are drawn to a specific type of work, such as surgery or science, you need more than a high school diploma, but if you are drawn towards a career in coding, or fixing the wiring in an old house, or making cars run, you often don't. Some things can only be learned by doing, and not attending college shouldn't be a stigma.
