Iran fires rockets at Iraq base hosting American troops

Iran didn't use its cruise missiles, but ballistic missiles. And they actually hit their targets. If there were no casualties on the US side (and that is not verified for sure), that is mainly because the US got some advance notice. Both from its own radars picking up the ballistic missiles after they were fired and also from the Iraqi PM. The notion that the missiles somehow 'missed' is a fabrication.

Iran being able to hit a well defended US air base with ballistic missiles also serves a very strong message. Cruise missiles are known to be able to evade ABM systems such as the patriot missile by flying low (e.g., Aramco oil facilities hit in Saudi Arabia). But ballistic missiles that hit their targets and aren't intercepted bring to question the effectiveness of US patriot and other ABM systems that guard its air bases. And that is another message that you can take from this missile strike.

 

Nothing says enemy of the people less than citizens bent on convincing millions to hate a sitting president or take the side of terrorists.

Naw, but he doesn't want a war with Iran any more than Iran wants a war with us. Besides, Russia and potentially even China would likely intervene if he tried, and they would relish the opportunity to embarass us once more the same way they have in Syria and Venezuela.

 

There were 22 missiles fired. You wouldn't expect all of them to hit their targets. The video I posted showed many which did hit their target and shows it clearly.

 

Our killing Solimeni was a restrained response and made far more sense.

I am amazed that you guys are so interested in spin and so little interested to understand things. I guess it reflects the fact that the US is a superpower and, like a rich kid who think he doesn't need to worry about learning, can afford to be ignorant and foolish and get away with it for a while. I wasn't attacking you, but lamenting the form of dialogue that you and others prefer to engage in. You could have asked me about the accuracy of the missiles and I would have said that around 10-20% can be expected to not hit their targets. Otherwise, these were quite accurate missiles.

 

That does not go with your own countries claims that they missed on purpose...

The claim in Iran is that they hit their targets (which is almost certainly the case as it relates to the majority of the missiles fired at Al Asad air base, both based on the video evidence as well as the initial US reaction confirming strikes against US bases) and (this part I have doubts about and isn't officially stated, but is reported by anonymous sources from Iran's revolutionary guards intelligence) caused significant casualties (70 dead, 200 injured).

 

They were OBVIOUSLY Accurate Missiles.

Sihce, Iran "missed intentionally" to avoid U.S. Casualties.

I can easily live with that version. It may not be true, but it serves the interests of peace. The more truthful version is that Iran didn't miss really, but the US had sufficient advance notice to make sure its forces were protected.

 

We'll see. Iran will be in some trouble if they did manage to kill and wound so many.

You seem to have trouble with reading comprehension. This is what I had written about the casualty claim, noting I have my doubts:

 

Trump made a big mistake ordering that strike. You can acknowledge that and acknowledge the fact that Trump just got his big blustering bluff about retaliation called by the Iranians without "siding with" Iran.

 

He is just doing what trumpers always do and trolling rather than attempting to have a respectful discussion.
