Several years ago in Texas the average high temps were 3-4 degrees higher than in Australia but we didn't burn down.....I suppose less nutters live here. Since we haven't been back up to those temperatures, we must be global cooling.

I am saying that the conditions had to be right for the fires to spread like that. The Yellowstone fire was terminated by 1/4 inch of snow. Usually the local fire Brigade well send out a red flag when conditions are right for wildfires and believe me all it takes is one match. But those are usually rare conditions.

It is not just about starting the fires this is about a tinder dry country that is suffering because of changed weather patterns (that means climate)

 

Have not read the Thread, but can assure you the OP is garbage. Some fires have been the act of stupid arsonists, some from dry lightning, and one because the Army were idiots. The blokes in the know say that the problem is that because of extended Summers, the opportunities for implementing control measures (burn off etc) are greatly limited. End of story. What we clearly need is much greater resources (like fire bombing aircraft) to snuff the bastards out as soon as they take hold.

 

California is beginning to experience similar conditions. Terrible.
