I surely hope there isn't violence, but the people of VA are surely pissed of the sweeping change happening to their state constitution. I would hope that they would go full recall first, of all those who voted for such legislation over violence.

They need to respect the will of the majority and just follow the gun restrictions or move to a pro gun state. If I were the governor I would send in the state militia against the protesters if anyone bought firearms and make mass arrests making an example out of them.

We'll see how many people show up on Monday... supposed to be pretty cold in VA on Monday...

    SNIP
Among the issues under consideration: background checks for gun owners, a red flag law that would allow the authorities to take firearms away from people deemed dangerous to themselves or others, and the potential to limit gun purchases to one per month.
    ENDSNIP

Virginia Gun control proposals are very simple, logical, and non-threatening to all law abiding gun owners.... The others can bite me...

Gather in Richmond if you like, but Ralph isn't going to stand by idly if things turn ugly....

Then you are asking for violence.

The majority of the state has already stated they will be sanctuary counties.

I wonder if Governor Coonman will emerge from his bunker in the Governor's Mansion during the demonstration and show his blackface?

    Nah...

I'm not expecting any trouble but if there is we can rest assured that Governor Coonman will be cowering in the safety of his hidey-hole in the Governor's Mansion...

Our governor is Ralph Northam... being a Virginian, you should know that...

Is honoring the spirit of the Second Amendment an option?

Our politicians have graciously denied the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia the power to recall them.

I spoke to my senator about this and he said we'd have to amend our constitution, which is about as easy as amending the U.S. Constitution. It'll never happen...

I never said Coonman wasn't governor, and I'm proud to say that I had nothing to do with that.

If you can do it without violence or major disruption, knock yourselves out.... I support all peaceful demonstrations defending ones position, but this group doesn't have the best track record...

I haven't been following this to be honest but if the underlined is everything then to be honest I don't have any issues with what they are trying to do, IMO it falls well within the "common sense gun laws" idea's that I've stated myself in other threads.

I live in Virginia, and I guarantee I've followed it less than you...

From the map in post #5, my county rejected "gun sanctuary" status, whatever that truly means...

Well the NRA banned weapons at their convention when Trump spoke. An argument can be made for and against, same with this case

Your map's a little out of date. This is how it looks now:

If you're counting, that's 87 out of 95 counties, or 92% of the Commonwealth...

Best way to combat it, tell all the county legislatures to reconvene. Tell them if they do not vote to remove the sanctuary status their ability to be self governing in the county will be suspended and the state legislature will replace the Sheriff with someone approved by the governor. They will be incharge of enforcement of the laws and the elected officials will be dismissed until the next statewide election.

Actually just have all county legislators who vote no to repeal the status removed and have someone appointed by the governor replace them.

This is why you don't drink alcohol folks I present you the amending formula for the Virginia constitution

"Any amendment to the Constitution must first be passed by a majority in each of the two legislative houses. The proposed amendment must then be held over for consideration by the succeeding elected legislature, where it must again be passed by a majority in each house."

Whoever made this up was drunk! and apparently so were the founders of Pennsylvania ancient constitutions have weird amendment processes

What a way to paint rights activists as being on the wrong side - they're violent.

Has the left ever declared a state of emergency when real violence actually takes place? Do they predict violence when Antifa rolls into town, or during the many protests organized by the left where violence and destruction of property really does occur?

Typically, when the right protests, and such protests are rare, they are not violent. The only violence that may take place is when the counter protesters from the left show up.

It's stories like this from Northam that brainwashes violent people into believeing they're not the violent ones, it's the peaceful people on the other side who are.

The problem with Democrats' gun control publicity stunt is that it enables them to look they are addressing the underlying causes of gun violence when they are not. In other words, they're treating the symptom, not the disease, and it's plain as day that Dems don't want to address the underlying causes of gun violence and they don't want other people addressing them, either. I've lived in some of the roughest neighborhoods in Richmond and seen the underlying problems that are driving the majority of the gun violence in Virginia with my own two eyes and the proposals in the General Assembly don't even get close to touching them. For the most part it's a sham, and I that's a major source of frustration with the law abiding gun owners in Virginia who will be at the demonstration Monday.

As an afterthought I will say something I said before the demonstrations in Charlottesville a couple years ago - we don't need outsiders meddling in our affairs. Stay home.

Charlottesville is enough of a justification for the state of emergency!

That's precisely what I discussed with my state senator, and those are the hoops we would have to jump through to get a recall measure written into our constitution.
