I was born at Fort Wayne Indiana in Feb. of 1953. It was cold growing up. I grew up at Tri Lakes Indiana. The lakes froze over every winter. People would drive their cars on the lakes in winter and airplanes even landed on them..... The small private prop jobs. My grandfather would drill the ice and measure the thickness every winter. It was from 8 to twelve inches thick. I left Indiana in my twenties and moved to Alabama. I moved back to Indiana 15 years later. The place was still cold but the ice on the lakes was only 4 inches thick in winter at most and some years the ice would not cover the whole lake. It still got cold..... one winter 35 below zero F. Several winters at 10 to twenty below for short periods but it didn't get the ice frozen over 4 inches.

Something wrong with Australian links? Global warming has not affected my life in any detectable way. There hasn't been any meaningful warming in the U.S. for 20 some odd years so it is a little difficult to compare now with then.

We used to get a big snow at least once a year here in north ms. in the 50s and 60s. But not today.

Gatlinburg Tn. Used to get snow too and I used to travel there in the fall but also winter . The last time I went a few years ago I was told they no longer get those big snows anymore .

Is it weather or climate change?

NASA has determined the Earth has warmed 1.5 degrees in the last 20 yrs
This is only serious if the trend goes up to 3 degrees or 4
Time will tell but it appears 100 per by humans

With population still growing some warming may be beneficial and not detrimental. Time will tell. The alarm may be unnecessary.

    All it takes is a little common sense to think through the effects of mankind on Earth;

    Mass-consumption of fossil fuels
Mass-development adding concrete and asphalt and building materials
    Mass-deforestation for development and profit
Mass-pollution of streams, rivers and oceans
    Population growth to 7.7 BILLION

And, everything mentioned above continues today in acceleration, plus it's all within a self-contained atmospheric system.

For those with a couple of percent extra common sense, it's easy to rationalize that these effects over time are not necessarily linear and each is not independent from the others. For example, population growth without cultural changes in parallel will exacerbate everything!

I don't care what we call all of this, how we label it, or who is to blame, or who must fix and fund everything, etc. I challenge anyone to deny the man-caused effects I mention above? Then all it takes is some honest thoughts about where all of this will lead humans and whether or not potential outcomes are worth proactive actions? Dismissing all of this as natural cycles of Earth and proclaiming mankind has no role is pure selfish BS.

You know what else is BS? The claim that humanity will do something sufficient to stall civilization growth and development .

We live in a civilization that fossil fuels created. It is also a civilization that cannot today replace fossil fuels given the growing demand for energy that is affordable. Why the people in your camp live in denial is what I cannot understand .

Our hope is science and technology will solve this problem over the long term. That we can access zero point energy or affordable fusion to replace what wind and solar cannot replace.

This is the sane position to take . All of the fear mongering will not change reality I noted . You and others are jousting with windmills. .

There is nothing sufficient that will ever be done for civilization simply cannot afford what it would take. If we went to zero c02 emissions right now the warming would continue perhaps for 100 years. It is too late to stop it. And of course we will never cut back on c02 enough to matter.

So what in the hell do you people want? Just something that makes you feel good ? Reality is a biotch and the sooner you learn to accept it the better off mentally it will be.
